Geesh, I've been reading a lot of threads on a lot of different sites about Natalie's death and there's a huge population that just didn't know how great she was. All they know is the later pop stuff and Unforgettable and they seem fairly dismissive of her talent.

People need to know that the "next Aretha" tag was at one time a legitimate claim. She was an amazing, gutteral, intense R&B/Soul singer. The first four albums tell the story. But, all anyone really needs to do is pick up a copy of "Natalie Live!" and play it front to back. That kind of talent comes around rarely.

EXACTLY!! That Natalie Live! album is a classic!!!

Natalie Cole's Sisters Are Grateful They Got to Spend One Last Christmas with the Singer

Natalie Cole's Sisters Are Grateful They Got to Spend Christmas with Singer
Natalie Cole with Casey, Robbie and Timolin

01/03/2016

Before boarding a plane from Boca Raton to Los Angeles for their sisterNatalie Cole's funeral, twins Timolin and Casey Cole, 54, spoke to PEOPLE about how much the later singer loved Christmas Eve, and how they were all together that night as a family in Los Angeles.

"Christmas Eve has always been a magical time for Natalie because she looked forward to the season and being surrounded by loved ones," Timolin says.

Timolin, Casey, and nephews Robbie, Sage, Haleigh and Teo, 3, flew to Los Angeles to be with Natalie that night. "We had a wonderful evening where we reminisced about holiday traditions of the past and present, including decorating every inch of her Hancock Park home with vintage Christmas ornaments and finery," Timolin adds.

The twins are thankful that the family was able to spend their sister's last Christmas together. Natalie died of complications from an ongoing medical condition on New Year's Eve.

The family memories are helping them deal with the grief of losing their sister during the holidays. "Christmas has always been a special time of the year for the Cole family because it is the time we most vividly remember our father [Nat King Cole], his music, and our early holiday traditions," says Timolin.

The twins agree that what is most important to the family now in their time of sadness is that music lovers never forget Natalie's contributions to her art.

"As our sister Natalie is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on her death, but will be on the countless moments of joyful music that she leaves for us all," Casey says.

She adds: "We join her son, Robbie, in expressing our gratitude for the support we have received from her friends and fans that she loved so dearly."

While the sisters mourn the loss of a "beautiful mother, sister, aunt, songstress and humanitarian," they also promise to celebrate her remarkable life.

"We hope that her passion for music serves as an example to young people around the world to work hard and make their dreams come true," Timolin says.

She continues: "To that end, we will continue our family's commitment to music as we provide music education to children with the greatest need and fewest resources through our nonprofit organization, Nat King Cole Generation Hope.

"We are honored to carry on the Cole family legacy that Natalie so passionately embraced."
I hope they have a public memorial service. I want to attend it...

I was shocked to hear of Natalie's passing on New Years Day (she passed on New Years Eve)...After she got the transplant she began to drop weight and it was alarming. We had never seen her look so thin...She kept singing and doing Gigs and unfortunately her heart was overworked....My Aunt passed from Lung disease and the Doctors told us that even if she got a transplant her remaining Organs were already damaged...When one organ begins to fail the other Organs step in & work harder to keep you alive...The Human body is AMAZING...God is AMAZING..LOL....The Cole Family Legacy is one for the Books...I mean, Nat & Natalie held it DOWN Baby!!! That Royal Family of Music will stay in are hearts Forever...I was looking at some of her pics & vids over the weekend and she was so Beautiful & Elegant...She made our people look Good....Rest Sweet Angel...

Her 70's classics. Her 80's hits. Her Christmas songs. Her duets with her late father. Her collaborations with the greatest voices in the world.

I will remember all those things and remember her as a legend in her own right.

Her Live album is one of the best live albums I've ever heard.

I was listening to her rendition of "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" days before she passed.

Also, her autobiography,Angel On My Shoulder,is one of the most impressive books I have ever read. She is extremely candid and doesn't hold anything back! If you haven't read it,I recommend that you find a copy.

Natalie Cole Funeral Info Revealed: This Monday at West Angeles Church in LA

The Electronic Urban Report/EUR has learned that funeral services for singer Natalie Cole will be held this Monday, January 11, at West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles.According to Earl Jordan, Executive Director of Operations at the church, services will be at 11am (Pacific) in the Cathedral building at 3045 Crenshaw Blvd. Officiating will be Pastor Melvin Wade of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Los Angeles. Ms. Cole was a former member of West Angeles, but when her son Robert joined Mt. Moriah, she started attending that church to support her son, Jordan told EUR’s Lee Bailey.

As of this posting, the complete program for the services has not been set, but Jordan did confirm that singer Chaka Khan will be present to perform. The family is still working on the program and should make an announcement tomorrow, we’re told. We’ve also been informed that Cole’s casket will not be open at any time during the ceremony. Additionally, no viewing of her body is scheduled.Interment will be at Forest Lawn.

As we reported, Natalie Cole died on December 31, 2015. Her family said the general cause of death was idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension, which led to heart failure.

In a statement to the Associated Press on Thursday (01-07-16), the family said that after Cole received a kidney transplant in 2009, she was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension, a rare lung disease that causes shortness of breath, dizziness and sometimes chest pain. Because Cole’s case was idiopathic, the exact cause is unknown. The statement read: “(Cole) responded well to pulmonary arterial hypertension-specific agents over many years, during which she performed many concerts world-wide, but eventually succumbed to intractable right heart failure, an outcome that unfortunately commonly occurs in this progressive disorder.” Natalie Cole was 65.

Natalie Cole's Family Reveals Singer's Cause of Death

Singer passed away from heart failure brought on by rare lung disease

BY DANIEL KREPS January 8, 2016
Natalie ColeThe family of Natalie Cole revealed Thursday that the singer passed away December 31st from heart failure brought on by a rare lung disease Moses Robinson/Getty

The family of Natalie Cole revealed Thursday that the singer passed away December 31st from heart failure brought on by idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH). Cole was first diagnosed with IPAH, a rare lung disease, shortly after undergoing a kidney transplant in 2009.

Natalie Cole

"This is a very serious and progressive disorder," Cole's family said in a statement of IPAH. "[Cole] responded well to pulmonary arterial hypertension-specific agents over many years, during which she performed many concerts worldwide, but eventually succumbed to intractable right heart failure, an outcome that unfortunately commonly occurs in this progressive disorder."

IPAH occurs when extra tissue forms around the pulmonary arteries, making it difficult for blood to flow and forcing blood pressure to rise. This often results in shortness of breath, dizziness and chest pain, The Associated Press reports. It's unclear whether IPAH was related to the "medical procedure which precipitated a lengthy hospital stay" that forced Cole to cancel many of her November and December 2015 concerts. Prior to her death, Cole also nixed her February concerts after becoming ill with an unspecified ailment.

Cole also battled Hepatitis C, which the singer admitted was the result of prolonged drug use decades earlier. "Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived … with dignity, strength and honor," Cole's family said in a statement after she passed away at the age of 65. "Our beloved Mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain UNFORGETTABLE in our hearts forever."

So sad. It was heartbreaking to see her in the condition that she was in these past few years. I think Natalie was the first crush that i had on a singer. My mom was a big fan of hers, and when she brought the album Thankful, well my young self fell in love with her and for the most part, her music.

I hate the fact that she struggled with addiction, and died in the manner in which she did, but i believe she is no longer suffering and is in a better place.

Here's an 1976 episode of the Dinah! show with both Natalie Cole & David Bowie

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The funeral was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! Her son handled it VERY well. He was even called up to play the drums at one point. It was a whose who in entertainment in attendance. She was really loved and it will be ok for her. She's in a better place now with her father. It kind of reminded me of Janet Jackson in a way. They both overcame the shadow of another superstar in their family. But managed to step out of the shadow and become one themselves. With a humbleness unmatched by any ther entertainer. R.I.P.
