I'm not a huge fan of hers, but I'm curious to know why you don't think she is "Halftime show material" confuse To me,she seems exactly the type of performer that they would ask to perform.I could imagine her performing and bringing out a surprise guest....Kanye West! LOL

I agree.

If Katy Perry can do half time, I don't see why Taylor Swift can't. White people and middle America love her and she is a very family friendly act.

When did I say MJ's performance was better? I was referring to the fact that before 1993, the Halftime Show was performed by lesser known/ less popular acts.

You said the modern superstar performances has a standard that started with Mike, which implies the earlier ones didn't. Like they were just thrown together with not much thought to it. But to the average football fan, the acts today are no more relevant to them than Carol Channing was in the past and she performed on several halftime shows and so did Up With People. I've been around NFL fans and they generally did not care about the halftime show, only the game. lol

A standard in terms of star power, not quality.

The Halftime Show rose in prominence and became a staple from when MJ was commissioned to perform. It's one of the reasons (the other being the commercials) many non-football fans tune in to watch the Super Bowl and have since.

nod

Well said. After MJ did it, the half time show became a major event in itself.

Well the Halftime show was really never an event, it almost always was a marching band and big band performers, in 1972 Ella Fitzgerald and Carol Channing were part of it. But it actually never featured a POP act till 1991 when New Kids in the Block did it, in 1992 Gloria Estefan and then 1993 of course MJ did it.

Coldplay is not a shocking choice at all, they have been a one of the biggest selling worldwide bands, and also touring bands over the last 15 years, up there with U2 and Jovi. I am shocked no one has ever gone to Elton John or Billy Joel for a Halftime show, since you don't really have to still be a "hit maker" at the time, I mean Tom Petty did it and was not charting at the time and Prince was not exactly in a major selling boom or even the spotlight at that time.

Some have said what about the Foo FIghters and I agree on that but they are not that universally known, and their an indie band. You can expect Taylor Swift next year for sure.

I am convinced that BeYAWNce and Jay-Z pay off the media and other entities to remain relevant. I won't be watching this performance at all because BeYAWNce is overrated and annoys me to death! She JUST appeared just a few years ago and she's back again? Geez. Sounds like BS politics going on behind the scenes.

Oh Yeah they do. I also think that Beyonce being on Coldplay's latest album and the Carters being tight with Chris Martin and Gwenyth have something to do with her performing the halftime show with them. Beyondoverrated will probably will do the song that's on Coldplay's album--they probably hoping that some of Bey's fans will get their album.

Still no confirmation on whether or not Bruno will be joining them--there are plenty of reports out there saying he will but no official confirmation from his camp.

Naughty Kitty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where have you been? I was just wondering about you the other day smile Glad to see your comments smile

Well, yes, "Beyondoverrated" (LOL) is probably just using Gwen to make more inroads into the acting business but everyone KNOWS she can't act her way out of a paper bag so I guess Gwen is just tolerating her for now. I'm just so sick of "BeYAWNce"....seems like she'll never go away. Her "fame" seems so forced and contrived.

Chris & Gwen are not together anymore. The reason Yonce is on is because they are doing that song with her vocals. Not sure why Bruno is there.

^ But its just ONE song. Cold Play has hits of their own. Did they really have to ask her to perform with them just to perform ONE song? lol

LOL Nice to see you around here again sis! clapping clapping clapping clapping clapping clapping clapping clapping clapping clapping clapping

I think Cold Play is really dumb for this disbelief The media has been marketing it as if Beyonce is headlining the show when its actually Cold Play headlining and Beyonce is just joining them on stage BUT like with everything Beyonce is involved in, it always has to be ALL about her. She is a egomaniatic bish that has to take over everything. neutral

I LOVE Bruno but I honestly hope he doesn't jump on this band wagon. The Carters love latching on to celebrities that are "hot" in order to remain relevant.

Hey SeventeenDayze! wave I been lurkin here and there, maybe once Bruno drops his next album I'll resurrect the Bruno threads again wink BeYawnsay is gonna do everything in her power to keep herself relevent unfortunately, heard she was on Lip Sync Battle the other day confused Like, why? Next she'll be coming out with her own brand of sweet potato pies to sell at Walmart.

@getxxx Yeah I know Chris and Gwen are "uncoupled" but Bey and Jay were/is tight with them which definitely plays into her singing on Chris's album and performing the song with him on the halftime show.
