Michael Jackson Dangerous on 180g 2LPRelease: November 20, 2015 . 1991's Dangerous saw Michael Jackson go in a different direction by surprisingly jettisoning longtime hit-making producer Quincy Jones (Off The Wall, Thriller, Bad) to co-produce the album himself with the assistance of Teddy Riley, Bruce Swedien and Bill Bottrell. It payed off as the album displayed a more contemporary MJ pop-sound, entering the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1 and selling over 35 million copies worldwide. The fine-tuned 14-song set produced a bevy of hit singles like "Black Or White," "In The Closet," "Remember The Time," "Jam" and "Who Is It" which were propelled even further by their unprecedented and omnipresent music videos. . Although Dangerous is definitely part of Jackson's quartet of classic albums and shows off a diverse range of styles, the multi-platinum No. 1 album is often overlooked due to the King of Pop's daunting catalog. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

In celebration and support of independent record stores, it has been announced that ‘Say Say Say [2015 Remix]’ will be released on 12” vinyl next Friday, November 27th for Record Store Day in the US. The track will also be released as part of Universal Records' '12 Days of Christmas' Campaign in the UK on Saturday November 28th. . The lead track of this limited release - originally recorded with Michael Jackson for the album Pipes of Peace in 1983 - is the full remixed song as featured on the bonus disc accompanying the 2015 album remaster, released in October as part of the GRAMMY Award-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection. . The B-side is an instrumental version of the song mixed by John “Jellybean” Benitez as featured on the original 12” single, remastered for this limited edition release. . The 12” sleeve is printed in silver and black with a graphite finish with transparent vinyl. . 50 years of Mississippi blues legend Bobby Rush—culled from more than 20 labels—coming on four discs from Omnivore Recordings on November 27, 2015. . Chicken Heads: A 50-Year History Of Bobby Rush box set contains nearly five hours of music with 32-page booklet, noted by Bill Dahl, with quotes from Mavis Staples, Keb’ Mo’, Elvin Bishop, Leon Huff, Al Bell, and more. . “Bobby Rush is among the most treasured blues singers of all time. Because when the blues saints go marching in, Bobby Rush will be in that. —Leon Huff When you’ve played with Elmore James, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Jimmy Reed, you must be on to something. When you’ve had a multi-generational career in music, spanning blues, soul and funk, that’s something else. . Bobby’s incredible half century of recorded music is ready to be devoured by those who’ve never tasted and those who want another helping on Chicken Heads: A 50-Year History Of Bobby Rush. . Nearly 100 tracks from the three-time Grammy® nominee’s storied career are finally collected in this unprecedented set. Including his Checker, Galaxy, and Jewel sides through Philadelphia International, Malaco/Waldoxy, LaJam, and Urgent cuts, as well as material from his own Deep Rush label, Chicken Heads tells the story of Bobby Rush: unfiltered, unedited and unbelievable. With almost five hours of music on four CDs, Chicken Heads traces his career from 1964’s . “Someday” through the title track, from 1979 collaborations with Gamble & Huff to tracks from 2004’s FolkFunk. . The 32-page, full-color booklet is filled with photos, ephemera, liner notes from Bill Dahl and testimonials from friends and fans including Mavis Staples, Keb’ Mo’, Elvin Bishop, Denise LaSalle, Leon Huff, Al Bell, and many more. With mastering and restoration by Grammy® winner Michael Graves, Bobby’s vintage recordings have never sounded better. . According to Rush, “It’s very exciting. Truly I feel honored that someone would think enough of me to do this. The record side of it is the glory side of me and that’s the side that I want people to know and I’m grateful for that. I’m happy that someone thought before I leave this land to tell my story. I’m proud of it and flattered about it. I want the world to know that this is my first time and I want to say it for people to be enthused about me. I’m not enthused about all of the songs because at the time I didn’t think they were all good. But after you become a ‘legend,’ you look back and it all looks good. There are things you had in the can you didn’t want to put out, and then you get asked what you have in the can that’s never been heard to put it out.” . As annotator Dahl comments at the opening of his essay: “Blues never get funkier than when Bobby Rush swaggers up to the mic and lets fly with his homespun truisms. He’s always in motion, always smiling, always on fire as his skintight band cooks up irresistible elastic grooves behind him.” . So, prepare to get funky with Chicken Heads: A 50-Year History Of Bobby Rush! . Disc 2: . Disc 3: . Disc 4: You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. The Early Motown EPs is a limited edition ‘various artists’ vinyl box set with Motown’s first seven EPs together for the first time…
In the Sixties, record labels realised four-track EPs could be a useful marketing tool to boost the profile of emerging artists and whet appetites for their current or forthcoming albums. Motown EPs released in Britain came with glossy photo front covers (usually, but not always, with pictures of the artists) and sometimes carried mini-essays on the back of the sleeve giving extra information on the featured artists from across the pond.Of the seven EPs reissued in this set, five are/were mini-compilations of an eclectic range of Motown artists (these were branded as either ‘R&B Chart Makers’ or ‘Hitsville USA’). The other two EPs focus individually on early tracks by The Miracles and pre- teen prodigy Stevie Wonder respectively. Each of The Early Motown EPs box sets is individually numbered and includes a download card. The sleeves of each EP inside are almost identical to the original designs, but the sharp-eyed among you will notice that the $tateside logo has been replaced by Tamla Motown branding. Commenting on the SoulfulDetroit.com forum, Paul Nixon, the compilation producer of this and many other Motown reissues for Universal Music, explained why.‘It wasn’t until way down the process that it became obvious that the $tateside logo could not be used as it now belongs to Warners,’ he wrote. ‘The London logo I believe is still with the Universal family. Future [Universal Music] sets will not be affected as they were carried on the Tamla Motown label. Otherwise these sets will be lovely. They are half-laminated like the original EPs and are as close to the originals as possible.’The Early Motown EPs is released on 27 November 2015.EP1

Prepare to be offended – but in the best possible way – as this mad collection serves up a whole host of postwar tracks in many styles – all of which have a lyrical bent that would hardly be acceptable today! Some cuts are from the mainstream – which might be excused for their insensitive portrayal of subcultures – but other tracks from genres like blues, country, and jazz often come across with some oddly offensive lyrics at points – yet in ways that maybe have some degree of charm, given their outdated ideas. In fact, the collection's maybe a good reminder that things have never been that easy for most folks in the American music scene – that someone's success is often stomping on someone else's idea – in this case handled in a range of subject matter that might offend Chinese Americans, African Americans, women, hillbillies, and a fair bit of other folks too – with subject matter that deals with differences in language, cultures, intelligence, and even driving. . You’ll marvel at what was considered OK in mainstream popular music. Unlike some extreme pop music today, these 31 songs were not meant to upset the audience. What passed for popular entertainment then could be pretty shocking by today’s standards. . 1 Hank Thompson - Squaws Along The Yukon You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. For his one-hour documentary, Robert Mugge spent two years shooting Sun Ra and members of his Arkestra in a wide variety of situations. I'm surprised they didn't include the single edit of the title track. Chaka sings a slightly different ad-lib near the end but that's okay. I only cared about "Lover's Touch" and especially "Only Once". The latter track she cuts loose like a beast at end of the song! It sounds like she's singing about a man. Some have said it's a song about God. The lyrics can really go either way. Whatever the case, it's an astonishing song. Her vocal performance is like butta! "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! This may have already been discussed on one of these threads, but I just ordered the Earth Wind and Fire 'Electric Universe' Expanded Edition....contains a whopping 8 bonus tracks!
There are alot of mixed feelings about this album, but I like it I enjoy the "futuristic" sound of several tracks and I think this album contains two of EW&F's finest ballads of the 80s ("Could It Be Right" and "We're Living In Our Own Time").It'll be exciting to revisit this album again!
