In celebration and support of independent record stores, it has been announced that ‘Say Say Say [2015 Remix]’ will be released on 12” vinyl next Friday, November 27th for Record Store Day in the US. The track will also be released as part of Universal Records' '12 Days of Christmas' Campaign in the UK on Saturday November 28th.

The lead track of this limited release - originally recorded with Michael Jackson for the album Pipes of Peace in 1983 - is the full remixed song as featured on the bonus disc accompanying the 2015 album remaster, released in October as part of the GRAMMY Award-winning Paul McCartney Archive Collection.

The B-side is an instrumental version of the song mixed by John “Jellybean” Benitez as featured on the original 12” single, remastered for this limited edition release.

The 12” sleeve is printed in silver and black with a graphite finish with transparent vinyl.

The Early Motown EPs is a limited edition ‘various artists’ vinyl box set with Motown’s first seven EPs together for the first time…

Beginning an EP reissue series of rare Motown recordings from the three labels that formulated the Motown Sound – London American, $tateside and Tamla Motown – this vinyl compilation of 28 recordings showcases the burgeoning talents of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Brenda Holloway, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, The Supremes, The Miracles and more.

In the Sixties, record labels realised four-track EPs could be a useful marketing tool to boost the profile of emerging artists and whet appetites for their current or forthcoming albums. Motown EPs released in Britain came with glossy photo front covers (usually, but not always, with pictures of the artists) and sometimes carried mini-essays on the back of the sleeve giving extra information on the featured artists from across the pond.

Of the seven EPs reissued in this set, five are/were mini-compilations of an eclectic range of Motown artists (these were branded as either ‘R&B Chart Makers’ or ‘Hitsville USA’). The other two EPs focus individually on early tracks by The Miracles and pre- teen prodigy Stevie Wonder respectively.

Each of The Early Motown EPs box sets is individually numbered and includes a download card. The sleeves of each EP inside are almost identical to the original designs, but the sharp-eyed among you will notice that the $tateside logo has been replaced by Tamla Motown branding. Commenting on the SoulfulDetroit.com forum, Paul Nixon, the compilation producer of this and many other Motown reissues for Universal Music, explained why.

‘It wasn’t until way down the process that it became obvious that the $tateside logo could not be used as it now belongs to Warners,’ he wrote. ‘The London logo I believe is still with the Universal family. Future [Universal Music] sets will not be affected as they were carried on the Tamla Motown label. Otherwise these sets will be lovely. They are half-laminated like the original EPs and are as close to the originals as possible.’

Prepare to be offended – but in the best possible way – as this mad collection serves up a whole host of postwar tracks in many styles – all of which have a lyrical bent that would hardly be acceptable today! Some cuts are from the mainstream – which might be excused for their insensitive portrayal of subcultures – but other tracks from genres like blues, country, and jazz often come across with some oddly offensive lyrics at points – yet in ways that maybe have some degree of charm, given their outdated ideas. In fact, the collection's maybe a good reminder that things have never been that easy for most folks in the American music scene – that someone's success is often stomping on someone else's idea – in this case handled in a range of subject matter that might offend Chinese Americans, African Americans, women, hillbillies, and a fair bit of other folks too – with subject matter that deals with differences in language, cultures, intelligence, and even driving.

You’ll marvel at what was considered OK in mainstream popular music. Unlike some extreme pop music today, these 31 songs were not meant to upset the audience. What passed for popular entertainment then could be pretty shocking by today’s standards.

Ensemble performances were filmed at Baltimore's Famous Ballroom, at Danny's Hollywood Palace in Philadelphia, and on the roof of Philadelphia's International House near the University of Pennsylvania. Sun Ra's poetry and mythological pronouncements were filmed in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park, in front of the White House, and inside and outside of the house he shared with key band members in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. I'm surprised they didn't include the single edit of the title track. Chaka sings a slightly different ad-lib near the end but that's okay. I only cared about "Lover's Touch" and especially "Only Once". The latter track she cuts loose like a beast at end of the song! It sounds like she's singing about a man. Some have said it's a song about God. The lyrics can really go either way. Whatever the case, it's an astonishing song. Her vocal performance is like butta!

There are alot of mixed feelings about this album,but I like it I enjoy the "futuristic" sound of several tracks and I think this album contains two of EW&F's finest ballads of the 80s ("Could It Be Right" and "We're Living In Our Own Time").It'll be exciting to revisit this album again!
