I'm sorry I said Michael Jackson was a pedophile

On two threads, namely Discuss Anything & Everything Michael Jackson and Is "1989" having the biggest impact on pop culture since "Thiller"? I said that Michael Jackson was a pedophile. I have done some reading on the internet since then, and it seems pretty clear to me now that Michael Jackson was the victim of extortion scams by greedy parents.

Like a whole lot of other people, I believed the media circus that was always around Michael Jackson. I had seen his music videos on MuchMusic but never bought an album of his. I was wowed with the rest of the world when he moonwalked on television. But I was heavily into bands like Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, King Crimson and The Bangles in the 1980s.

It seems the media did an appalling job of reporting the Michael Jackson cases. It didn't help that my favourite late night comedians like David Letterman, Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien just added fuel to the fire.

In any case, I simply did not dig deep enough into the story for a long time. I apologize to the many Michael Jackson fans here on the org. I'm sorry.

Anyone who is not stupid/complacent enough to accept the tabloids at face value and has the capacity to make up their own minds about things will see through the medias blantant spin about the MJ case.

this is the whole thing about this entire situation,

the root core problem regarding Michael Jackson and his life/career challenges post-Thriller

Michael Jackson was sitting on the very top of the music world, the very apex of the recording industry (whent it was known as such)

he garngered the entire respect domestically, internationally, among this contemporaries, and the greater society as a whole

he became a musical icon, and a national treasure in ever since of the world

and just as he reached the very pinnacle, and what turned out to be his career pinnacle, then that's when opportunists came knocking at the door, and encouraged him to deviate from teh path, the very path that brought forth the amazing success

rather than continuing to represent his talent in a way that would be embraced by the greater public as a whole, he was encouraged to move beyond everything of significance to attain a level of commercial appeal they convinced him would be greater, and it never worked, because that entailed he construct an image that was based on superficiality, and one that would seek validation from a body of influence who never understood the real reasons for his success, an image that would be dictated by commercial media, and the moment that happened, his life and career was destroyed because as early as 1989, it was very apparent and obvious that eventually, he would be accused of inappropriate behavior towards children because of the false image,

so when the 1993 allegations occurred, I was not surprised at all, it was not about the allegations as much as it was about the false image that led to it, that created the environment to be accused in teh first place, all the rah rah about rather he did it or not, it was deeper than that, and the more the false image was portrayed, the more that image became reliant on validation by commercial media, the more commercial media was able to dictate how MJ would be portrayed to the masses, and it became this perpetual cycle of distortions that continued until the very end

I never believed he did any of that, not because I was a fan, but because I considered how he was raised before the history of his family was distorted, exploited, and their dynamic was destroyed

if Michael Jackson had been allowed to be who he was supposed to be after Thriller, he would have never had to go through such unncessary tribulation, he never would have been accused of what he was accused of, and everything would have been the way it should

the media would have never been able to get to him

until the root core problem is addressed and acknowledged, the questions will always linger

he was set up no doubt about it, but the real question is why and that's what society, fans, media does not want to tap into

I think what happened to that man was tragic over time and it was very bothersome, not from a fan perspective but because of the human value was totally disregarded

I don't read tabloids, it was television that influenced me. I have since thrown out my TV.
