I don't own any Lakeside beside their main hit on a Funk compilation. How would you all rank/compare them to other Funk outfits of the late 70d/early 80s? Cameo Slave Zapp Gap Band Con-Funk-Shun BT Express The Time Midnight Star Sun ect. I didn't include the likes of EWF, P-Funk, Isleys, Kool Gang because they're on a different level.

I love Lakeside but out of those bands listed,I would say that Cameo and Con Funk Shun were my favorites....but really, they were all great! That's what was so cool about music back then.We had alot of 'quality music' to choose from.

Whonis there sound more similar too? I only know them from Fantastic Voyage and All The Way Live. From those tunes they sound like they're in that Slave style and somewhat early Cameo?

Slave would be fitting although Lakeside were out first. Both bands

are part of that Dayton, Ohio funk factory that also houses Zapp,

Ohio Players, Sun, Heatwave, and Faze-O.

Lakeside were out before Slave and Cameo

Soul: U ever hear B.T. Express' "Keep It Up" album from 1982? It was their last on Coast to Coast/CBS. Funkytowngrooves remastered/reissued it for the first time in 2011 at my suggestion and it's one of my ALL-TIME favorite Funk albums on Earth! Check it out! smile

Just watched the Lakeside episode. It's sad to see how the brotherhood of
the band broke down due to greed. It happens with a lot of old school groups.
It seems lead singer Mark Adam Wood seems a little bitter towards other members
and decided to give them his butt to kiss lol and tour with his version and keep the majority of paper. He went even as far as to trademark the group name as
the sole owner. disbelief Sad to see him do that to his band of brothers he
bled and sweat with over the years to get to the top.

I didn't see the episode yet,but I am so tired of this stuff happening with these bands! Why can't everyone just get along, tour together, make money and keep it going? It's ridiculous how this same scenario is being played out with numerous other groups, too (Shalamar,Klymaxx,Mary Jane Girls,War,etc).Stop all the bitterness and keep the fans happy.

Should a group really stay together if they don't get along, just because a third party wants them to or just to make some money? When The Police were together, they would have fist fights, and Andy & Stewart were tired of Sting's bossiness. How about Ike & Tina Turner or Guns n Roses/Axl Rose? The fans don't have to live or hang out with the people in the group like a Gene Simmons or a Eddie Van Halen. It's doubtful Sammy Hagar would ever return to Van Halen. lol

.

Being in a group is sort of like a marriage and people get divorced. In some cases, time may pass and bad feelings might go away like The Eagles, except for Don Felder. The Eagles have been together longer after reuniting than they were originally. People may want to do things they are not allowed to do in the group like George Harrison in The Beatles. Should Flo Ballard be happy that a group she started, name was changed from The Supremes to Diana Ross & The Supremes and that Diana got more attention at Motown because she was sleeping with the boss? The group originally shared leads before signing with Motown & Gordy made Diana pretty much the sole lead because she a voice that could crossover.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I just saw Chante's episode. I remember when she came out with the single and video for "Old School Lovin'", she was the only female star on this planet (with the exception of female porn stars) to ever give me constant erections whenever she was on TV.

Yeah,I understand all that but it's just so annoying to see bandmembers feuding with each other, and offering their fans two different versions of the same group lol It's ridiculous.Such a shame that money and ego ruins many of these bands.

Wait until you see the episode Soul. It just seems Mark Adam Wood came off a little shady.

The band offered to make peace but he wasn't having it and seemed to abandon them and do his own thing and hire some fill ins to perform cheaper and keep more of the loot. His bandmates weren't too happy about it and trademarking the Lakeside name either.

disbelief This is the exact same thing that's going on with War right now.Lonnie Jordan has his own "fake" version of the band, using fill-ins instead of the original members. He gets to use the 'War' name while the other original members had to change their name to Lowrider Band. This kinda stuff pisses me off.

She's really the definition of Unsung compared to others they've done like George Clinton and Otis Redding.
