I don't know. D'Angelo took 15 years to record his new album, right? Brian Wilson took 35 years to record Smile. But eventually, those albums came out and especially Brian Wilson went through a lot of personal problems. Sly Stone has never really announced a new album. I don't know about Shuggie Otis.
Right now, I think it's Prince and his Purple Rain remaster. wink

Stevie Wonder, New Edition, Swing Out Sister, Tears For Fears

Jermaine has been announcing a Jackson brothers album since the 1990s. lol They also was working with Jam & Lewis on that TV show they had a few years ago. There's also Lionel Richie claiming he was reuniting with the Commodores. Well he did perform with Thomas & Ronald at a concert, but they are not in the group either.

I am gonna say Erykah Badu, since she promised a trilogy of albums, and we got Volume One in 2007 and Volume Two in 2010, but... it's been five years.

My brother told me she is playing Jazzfest in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I need an album!

Oh God, they were working on the album in 2009 before Michael passed. Nothing holding them back now! I used to think they were waiting for Michael to feature.

q tip is always slow

think he announced 'the last zulu' would be out in 2012, still waiting. plus historically there have been long delays (record label troubles) with the kamaal album and still unreleased open album.

luckily he still puts out a fair bit as a producer/collaborator, new track with chemical brothers out this week and sounding good!

oh GOD, thank you for saying that. Um... I think he mentioned an album with Common in 2008 right before Obama took office! lol And then I heard about The Last Zulu in 2012. I know he is a perfectionist but DAMN.

the renaissance was so good that i forgive him. still love that album.

ready for the next one now though, plus he has cancelled shows on me in london both times i had tickets - in 2004 and 2011! did get to see him in NYC with the roots though due to some fortunate holiday timing!

QTip I agree. I was rocking the Renaissance yesterday. Move/Renaissance medley

I don't think Donald Fagen has made statements about recording albums and then not releasing one, so does he count?

lol, I'm a greedy fan though. I feel Fagan's music always puts me in a good mood and transport me mentally to whatever he's singing about.

I think he counts, but that's a good point. I'm not aware of any interviews he's had. I just know I'd like to see him release more material because Ive always enjoyed his albums.

No, just joking around. But now I remember that Lenny Kravitz announced a dance album called Funk years ago. That never happened...

Adorecream

Madonna, I know she delivered twice in 3 years, but the albums were so bad, we are sure she is fooling us and a new classic is lurking somewhere.

.

And what about Prince? that wait between 20Ten and Art Official Age felt interminable, especially as through 2012 and 2013 he kept dropping one off songs and hints. And lets not even start with promised remasters of his classic 1980s albums including the long ballyhooed Purple Rain and a decent mix of Sign o the Times, Adore in digital surround sound as it was meant to be heard. razz

Stevie has been promising 'The Gospel Isnpired By Lula' since 2007, 'Through The Eyes Of Wonder' since 2008, 'Ten Billion Hearts' since 2012, and 'When The World
Began' since 2013, I think.

I find that, when artists announce multiple projects that they're working on,only one of 'em ever gets released lol Stevie should just focus on releasing one great album, that would be enough for now.

George Michael, Sade and Anita Baker are also just as bad but I suppose they are like some of the others perfectionist when they drop the end product is a classic whole concept album rather then album with just a couple of good tracks.

It seems that the long an artist waits......the harder it becomes 2 work on an album.
