Before their last album dropped in 2012, Van Halen was pretty bad.

Dr. Dre. Although with Dre, why should he even care anymore? His headphones made him stupid-rich, and he may as well officially announce (even though we already know this) that Detox will be put on hold indefinitely. That one-off single he released with eminem a few years back (title escapes me) was horrible, and if that piece of shit on wax is any indication of whats to come should Detox be released, then he should Old Yeller the project 2 years ago.

Rakim's self-imposed delays on his new album has now made the project irrelevant, and people will treat it with indifference now should it see the light of day. Shame, since Rakim hasnt spit the hot fire in forever.

Portishead is another.

The Cure is another one. Robert Smith has been ramblin' on about the "Dark" album from the 4:13 Dream sessions for over 7 years now. Dude, just release it and get it done with. Whatever the issues for the delay may be, they can't be bad enough to where you're sitting on an album you've wanted to release now for quite some time. Shut the fuck up, and upload it and leak it out. You and your absurd hair aint spring chickens anymore. Just do it. You'll be glad you did, Lovecat.

Get in your mouse, and get out of here!

Miles

Stevie Wonder for sure. He must have an unreleased vault as large as Michael Jackson's by now.

And Jimmy Page keeps hinting on having a load of new material and says he just needs the right singer, but cos Robert Plant won't play ball, that seems to be his excuse for not releasing any.

Peter Gabriel may be the champion of over-promising (and under-delivering) albums!! biggrin

.

When "Up" was released in 2002 (some TEN years after its predecessor, "Us"), he was promising an album called "I/O." It's now 2015 and it seems we're no closer to getting "I/O"! lol

(Of course, to be fair, he hasn't just been sitting around...during that time there have been many, many tours and projects!)

I wish he would have done the last Genesis tour, but I don't know about performing the entire Lamb album though. Which is what they had discussed doing. I don't think that most of the Invisible Touch era fans would be interested in that and at this point that is the biggest audience.

Gotta throw Anita into the mix. I believe she first announced she was working on a new LP going on 4 years ago and it has been delayed without any explanation.

And Chaka? She probably has enough songs in the can recorded over the past few years from abandoned projects to release 3 or 4 albums. But, she's back in the studio working on an album to be released "this Fall". mad

That's true. Lauryn Hill always kept it truthful and never promised an album. She just has released a few songs throughout the years without hyping up an album.

George Michael, Sade and Anita Baker are also just as bad but I suppose they are like some of the others perfectionist when they drop the end product is a classic whole concept album rather then album with just a couple of good tracks. [Edited 5/10/15 7:06am]

Think so?

I don´t know, I could´t really get into the last TWO Sade albums. (Yes, I disliked both of her latest releases....either something was missing, or my taste in music has changed. I still like everything she released before the last two albums though).

I never really got the concept album vibe from her last two releases. Same with George Michael. To me, they sounded like incoherent albums with a couple of okay songs in between.

Same with Maxwell.

Maxwell posted on FB that he´s working on remastered versions of his first three albums. I´m curious what and when he´s going to release them. Urban Hang Suite and Embrya are still two of my all time favorite albums, and those are really good concept albums with a cohesive feel and sound.

It won't be coming out. Kendrick Lamar said he heard some of it in the studio but it will not be titled Detox.

Did you know there were albums she was working on pre-"Funk This" where she claimed she had recorded duets with Charlie Wilson and Jill Scott? Still waiting to hear those suckers almost 10 years later. biggrin

These bands always take forever to release albums and you usually hear it is coming for years before the fact.

Aerosmith

ZZ Top

AC/DC

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Metallca

Funkadelic (until last December)

Herbie Hancock (in the 1990s)

Another one is Ernie Isley. How about the Brothers Johnson, will they ever release another album?

"White Light" was supposed to be attached to an upcoming album wasn't it?

Then nothing.

Then he and his producer were talking about some "big gay dance album" they started- then nothing.

I wonder if all his drug use & problems have eroded his talents and abilities to complete an album

I remember seeing them in concert in 2003 and around that time, they mentioned that they were working on a new album. One of the new songs was called "Grooveless" and they were performing it on their shows.Such a shame that a new album never materialized confused

Yes, but it's not really an all new studio album. It's mostly a live album from his 2011-12 tour. It contains six of his own songs (all of which have been released before in other versions) and the rest are covers.

I don't differentiate between albums of original songs and remake albums, because I don't really care about self-writing. It doesn't mean anything to me except the act can possibly make more money for themselves if the record is a big seller, but that is not always the case, depending on what kind of deal they signed. It has nothing to do with whether I like a record or not. An album is an album to me.

Tops on my list are 2 Ms:

Maxwell

Madvillain (11 years since Madlib and MF Doom dropped Madvillainy, and 7 years since they were "working on a new album").

I totally agree with you that a covers album if the artist hasn't released them before is still a new album. But a lot of the covers on the Symphonica album were actually released before on his studio album Songs from the Last Century. As I said it's a live album of songs that have been released before in studio versions, some his own songs and some covers.
