I find it easy to both Knock Kravitz for some of his artistic choices &

to Respect him tremendously for his staying power, work ethic & his obvious talent/charisma.

I take it that you're not a fan of Lenny Kravitz lol lol

It's not that. The whole halftime show of a football game is just plain silly.

I'm envisioning something similar to this, only with much better singing:

And thankfully there's no chance of anything like this happening again:

Most MIGHT know a few of the hits, barely, but if you are talking 15 year olds. One I think the majority DONT know Lenny's Music at least nothing from the last decade, and TWO demographically the SuperBowl is NOT a teenagers game, its guys 25-40 mostly and women too, times have changed.

Yep. But guys 25 - 40 would know Kravitz. Probably more than Perry. So that fits perfectly.

I had planned on skipping the halftime show but will tune in now to see Lenny Kravitz. Is it me or do you all find it strange that a veteran act like Lenny Kravitz is playing a backup role for a chick who has been in the music business a solid five years or so? Something seems wrong with that scenario.

No. It's not only you... it's deadwrong, especially considering that a veteran artist like Kravitz is a better fit for that Superbowl than Perry.

Did you listen to the video I posted of Fergie singing? lol

I'm not a huge fan of Perry, but she can't possibly sound as bad as Fergie did.

I agree. It seems that someone like Kravitz should have had this show all to himself at some point. By agreeing to do this special appearance he's pretty much guaranteeing us that he will never headline a Superbowl halftime show since they don't tend to repeat artists. It's a one and done type of thing ya know.

Okay I will attempt to bring some perspective as to the reason why Lenny is a special guest and not the main performer

The clear trend over the past couple Superbowl halftime shows has been to have the main performers be someone who is a recent/current chart topper and therefore have massive appeal to the younger generations. Perhaps it's because they've run out of musical legends to headline?

Last year Bruno Mars was the headliner, he did five songs.
His special guest was Rock & Roll Hall of Famers the Red Hot Chili Peppers - they did just the one song with Bruno.

The prior year was unique but similar, the headliner - Beyonce - was at the height of her popularity and her special guests was a group (Destiny's Child) that hadn't been active since 2006.

Prior to that, it was nothing but truly iconic music legends who were the headliners - Madonna, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Prince, The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney. The one outlier during that time was the Black Eyed Peas in 2011.

So following the current trend, it makes sense to have the headliner be someone who is riding consecutive #1 albums and nine #1 hits over the past few years. She's been selling out 15,000+ seat stadiums while the past few years every time Lenny comes around in the states he's performing in theaters with just a couple thousand seats.

I for one am glad he doesn't draw stadium size audiences anymore, makes it easier for me to get seats near the stage every time he tours. wink

Makes sense. It seems that Lenny would have been able to pull off his own show but now the trend has changed and it features more "current" acts. Either way, I wish Lenny the best during his guest appearance.
