Yeah it does seem that the music is a bit like hip-hop elevator music. The writing on the show could be better as well. It's kind of a train wreck, you keep watching it even though there's nothing but calamity on the scene...What does everyone else think about the show?

Yes that describes the music on the show perfectly! But I see Timbaland is in charge of the music for the show? Its so corny and cheesier than Velveeta! lol

That's what surprises me as well. For someone like Timbaland to be in charge you'd think the music would be much better. It seems that someone at the helm is encouraging the show to be cheesy and over the top and they are doing a good job of that, that's for sure!

No Apologies is pretty decent, better than a lot of the songs I've heard on the show so far.

Timbo was one of the co producers on Holy Grail,,, so your point is not valid again.

For those not sold on "Empire" I implore you to watch this upcoming seasons "Being Mary Jane". It's smart, it's sexy, it's slick, it's soapy. It's lead character can be a mess (call it comnplicated if you will) but it feels so relateable. Authenticity runs through it's viens. It's buppified yes, but we hardly ever see them depicted on TV.

Maaaannn this show is over the top cray lol And I like it--its so bad its good! My new guilty pleasure and I can see it's already got its own cult following. You cant take this show seriously with its over the top writing, acting, and plots. The sex scenes are especially laughable falloff And Hakeem gettin it on with "Mama Naomi".... wuuutttt??? whofarted But yeah, this is a good ol fashioned trashy night soap that tries its hardest to serve up shock/OMG-worthy scenes. But their OMG scenes be leavin me spit

Hey Naughty Kitty! Yeah, I agree, the show is so terrible that it's good. It's a train wreck for sure. I think the show tonight was a bit slow and not much changed from last week to this week but yeah the part with Naomi Campbell was awkward but I wonder if she enjoyed kissing on a guy who is probably half her age, LOL! It seems this show is going to be a bit like New York Undercover (for those of you who don't remember the late 90s, it was a great TV show). I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the sex scenes were laughable, LOL....that scene with the deputy mayor was super awkward!

Naomi dated singer Usher a while ago. So that is your answer.... biggrin

The ratings were high as well for the 2nd episode. Maybe they are on to something! After all, the Jerry Springer show lasted a really long time.

I just learned a few weeks ago that the Jerry Springer show is still on and has been renewed for a few more YEARS. That's just incredible if you ask me.

I didn't watch the last episode but am I the only one who thinks the character is modeled after jayz or maybe a composite of him and another hip hop mogul?

I thought about Suge too but I say maybe a composite since Terrance Howard's character mentions dinner with "Barak".... lol

This is the same with reality TV. I think some people are addicted to it.

I loved it. Didn't think, I would. When he put his son in the trash, my mouth dropped, figuratively. Yes, it depicts black people in a bad light, but we know not all black people are like that. Hopefully, tv viewers are smart and wise enough to know this. I just see it as entertainment and it further reinforces what I know not to do or how to treat people, physically and verbally.

Yeah that scene was pretty eye opening. It makes me wonder if something like that really happened to one of the writers. Otherwise, how in the world would the average person even come up with the idea to put a kid in the trash can!?!

It may have happend to someone (writer or non-writer). Or, someone may have just came up with the idea because, you know, some people think of gay people as trash and some parents (the mother, the father, or both) wish their gay child had never been born. So, the idea may have been born from an idea like that as well. Sad, indeed, but a powerful scene.

Sorry, but that horrific scene was created and written by the creator Lee Daniels. It was sadly, based on what happen to him as a young child.

I'm really digging "Empire". I think this show will hold me over until "Power" comes back. Yes the show is a little over the top but the acting on here is fantastic.

Taraji is killing it as Cookie and even though I don't care for Terrence "baby wipes" Howard personally, he has always been a good actor and he shines on "Empire". I'm surprised the show is getting away with a lot of the risque content on prime time tv.

I read recently that Wesley Snipes was originally going to play the role of Luscious.

Kinda glad that didn't happen.

You think?...I like Wesley too. I think Taraji and Terrance have good chemistry..She said when she read for the role she wouldn't do it unless Terrance would play opposite her.

Yep good and trashy. My first thought it's Dynasty with music. There was one song in the first episode tha sounded like a JT song, but of course Timberland is doing the music. It's trashy fun. I like it so far gonna watch the 2nd episode today + that Halle Berry(Grace Gealey) looking gal is HOT. smile

No need to be sorry. I speculated that it could have been based on fact or fiction. If it's based on fact, it's based fact:) Thanks for the info.
