Taraji P. Henson is a sucky, one-note actress . She generally ruins everything in which she stars. I recorded the first episode, but I'm a bit hesitant to watch.

That's the beauty of Taraji; you know what you're getting.

Though didn't she turn in an Oscar winning performance in "Benjamin Button"?

To me the general rule is that a show takes time to find its groove. That might seem like an anomoly today because some of these shows come out of the gate with a strong impact (I'm thinking something like the "LOST" pilot).

But other times shows take quite a while to reach that level. Seinfeld and Cheers were mere shadows of what they became when they first came out and were flops. As time went on though people caught on and a groove was established. But I am talking about a differrent time when people had nothing better to do then stumble across TV shows that have already been on a few years.

My point? Give it time.

From the previews of upcoming shows I like this exchange:

Bougie ho: Do you even know what a debutante is?

Cookie: A bougie ho with money?

Bougie ho: A ho that can cut your throat and not even disturb her pearls!

That is one of those ooooooh moments that trashy soaps like this were made for. I guess you just have to be into it. It's a step up from such addictive monstrousities as:

I agree with this too. Imma give it some time.

When you say you've only seen her be a black woman on film do you mean stereotypical black woman? Just curious.

Oh God...Please, don't. If I meant that, I would have said it. I'm not convinced she's acting at all. Her or Terrance. He soulds like he's about to cry all the damn time.

Oh ok, just checking smile Yeah, it does seem that some actors get comfortable with doing the same old things over and over again. Those two make a great pair and I wouldn't be surprised if a Hustle n Flow part 2 isn't somehow in the works already smile

This show only serves to reinforce the notion that Black people are crooks and coons
and our value is only in entertaining White Americans as music performers or athletes.

So, I'll definitely be watching!

hmmm I'm on the fence. I actually asked myself half way watching last night's episode why I was watching this instead of Mob Wives (which I DVR'd). In one way, I like the rawness of the screen play but I absolutely hate the plot. So I'm not sure if I'll be tuning in next week or not.

Too me, it looks like what goes on in the rap world. I think that's what they were going for. First episode, I was like "what the hell is going on." This episide, was better.

First of all...the names...Lucious and Cookie...come the FUCK on now.

He used to be a drug dealer, and now he has a record company, and she is coming out of jail. No better ideas than that? Why can't he be a college graduate, or inherit the company from his father or something? I guess that would be too hard to put on t.v.
First Precious, and now this. Fuck Lee Daniels, and Tyler Perry. This is not creative. This is not new. This is some stereotypical buckdancing bullshit I won't be watching. I swear they are trying their best to keep us where we are, when they have platforms and leverage that can change the way people think about us, but instead we get this. No progress as usual. We need to be careful what we like and watch on t.v., because even though it may be negative, giving our attention to things shows people who make this kind of shit think we want to keep seeing it.

I'm good.

SMH, Precious was adapted from the novel PUSH. Lee also had Shadowboxer with Cuba Gooding, Jr. STARZ's POWER has a lead that is a Drug Dealer that owns a Nightclub.

Everyone wants to be a critic.

Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

I know this, but still...why are negroes trying to remake The Color Purple? Precious' suffering was grossly exaggerated, to the point of exploitation. Why are these prominent "Black" film makers so content on releasing movies that show us being exploited, suffering, over-comin', escaping from something, etc.? Of course they through they release the occasional "his"torical "Black" film, just to remind us of how sangin' and marchin' brought us through thumbs up!
White(Jew) film studios don't even have to make films like that about us anymore. Now they have a trinity of rich "Black" folk, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, and Lee Daniels, to make sure they use all their resources to keep images of oppression and servitude fresh in our minds smile

And now with this show, they're using television to make sure it gets funneled in to the "Black" homes of America, on basic cable no less, because that's all we can afford, to make sure we all get our dose.

Fuck Empire.

^^^ soapbox critic... your points arent vaild here.

The Color Purple another work of FICTION that translated well to scene by a WHITE DIRECTOR and did good numbers on BROADWAY and is coming back to BROADWAY this season.

Empire is real life, Power is real life these situations happen it some way or fashion. Every thing is not like Blackish, Cosby, etc. There is real life struggles.

I have to agree I'm not a fan of "The Color Purple" and definitely not "Precious". That one was really pointless. But "Empire" is light entertainment, a trashy soap that does no favors to itself by becoming subtle or high minded. "Revenge" might have rich people in it, but I get the feeling that if it had a black cast people would be complaining that it's a negative portrayal while failing to realize that that's the point. It's a soap. Exaggeration is its middle name.

Can't see this show winning any awards or lasting more than one season. There is a lot of fucking in it though which is nice to see on prime time television. A lot of cussing too. If only the acting, the music and the script were better - they might be on to something!

Yeah it does seem that the music is a bit like hip-hop elevator music. The writing on the show could be better as well. It's kind of a train wreck, you keep watching it even though there's nothing but calamity on the scene...What does everyone else think about the show?

Hey Naughty Kitty! Yeah, I agree, the show is so terrible that it's good. It's a train wreck for sure. I think the show tonight was a bit slow and not much changed from last week to this week but yeah the part with Naomi Campbell was awkward but I wonder if she enjoyed kissing on a guy who is probably half her age, LOL! It seems this show is going to be a bit like New York Undercover (for those of you who don't remember the late 90s, it was a great TV show). I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the sex scenes were laughable, LOL....that scene with the deputy mayor was super awkward!
