Even after Mj's popularity started DETERIORATING, when the allegations started piling up against him. Janet at the height of her fame! Put all of that aside and recorded the song "Scream" with him. Then filmed a video with him also. She didn't have to do that. It shows the type of person she is. MJ wouldn't even give her credit for singing back up on his BLOCKBUSTER album "Thriller" on the song "PyT...SMH.

all true, it wasn't Janet who asked Mike if she could perform on Scream, it was Mike who asked Janet to because he knew Janet had just sold 22-25 million copies of her JANET LP a year prior....

and her voice in PYT made that song stand out the way it did...

nod

Also; after she so kindly recorded her vocals for "Scream" after he did his. Mj heard them & couldn't bare to have Janet out sing him. So he re-recorded his again, without notifying her! Leaving her vocals lowered in the mix. She didn't find out, until the song was released, with the majority of her vocals barely audible. It actually caused a rift between them at the time. But Janet made up for it, TOTALLY slaying him in the "Scream" video in dancing & swagg.

amen, and he never worked w/her ever again......lolll

before any King of Pop fans jump the gun........I love both MJ and Janet.....I never put down one to put up the other....

I always loved the musical output of the entire family

but during this stage, and this is just fact by 1995, MJ knew he lost a huge segment of his audience that he garnered during the first 16 years of his career.....he knew Janet had garnered a large segment of that audience and he hoped featuring her in his debut single/video for History would help regain that audience......

Janet fans are only trying to point out Janet's career's success was a product of her hard work and her work alone, she never relied on her brother's success to establish herself

we all know MJ became the greatest entertainer on the planet before Janet rose to superstardom......

Really? I don't have the album in front of me,but I'm pretty sure that Janet and LaToya are credited for background vocals on that song.It was well known back then that they were singing on that track.

Can someone pull out the album and check right now? lol

Janet also said, besides not even being compensated for her contribution to the "Thriller" album. She also NEVER received a gold or platinum plaque, from the hundreds, he collected from the sales. Which she would have liked to have had one.

While it's been confirmed by Jimmy Jam in a number of interviews that Michael rerecorded his vocal after hearing Janet's, there is absolutely no proof that her vocals were left lowerer in the mix than his or that was the intention. Not by Jimmy Jam, not by Terry Lewis, not by Bruce Swedien, not by Rob Hoffman, not by Michael, nor by Janet.

Their vocals are both equalised to a simialar sound (despite them both using different microphones) and have the same reverb effects and very similar compression.

This is just a rumor that started on Janet forums years back. No evidence what so ever.

But it's annoying when people keep feeling that putting him down somehow brings Janet up. And so what if he called her "the genius' sister"? It was probably just an attempt at humor from him, because in real life she is that (even though that's not the first thing you'd expect to hear about her).

And for yall stans who wanna bring sales into the thread about her music, FYI no matter how many album sales you bring up, Prince has STILL OUTSOLD her (confirmed for 62 million, Janet's in the early 50 millions) and still performs his ass off whereas Janet's been on the d.l with billionaires for the past 6 years. Just for the record, I do like JJ's music and find her more than just a "one trick phony". She genuinely has a lot of talent (Escapade will forever be a favorite), and a flash in the pan?? Really?? Well you need to fix your ears PRONTO! Because Janet's vocals on that track are not even all the way through. In fact at times you can barely hear her. I'm not just making this up! I'm stating FACTS!

Mj's vocals are a lot clearer in sound, volume, & tone. Even though he is a better singer than Janet. JJ & TL have had way more experience in handling her vocals before. It really is no other excuse for it, besides what I originally said. It's because she did ONE take. It was not mixed to match her brothers. It's as simple as that. Even though I do like her vocal performance on it.

MJ had final word, because it was his album. Him redoing his vocal speaks VOLUMES on his competitiveness . He wanted to out sing his own sister on their first track together biggrin.

Oh come on,her only "contribution" to that album was singing "na na na na" for a few seconds near the end of "P.Y.T" lol how much compensation does she need? As I recall,Michael returned the favor when he sang on her 1984 hit "Don't Stand Another Chance".

The only embarasing in this thread are those who make claims with out backing the up with any solid proof. Again, I highlight your sheer rudness.

Show me evidence that it was a concious decision to have Janet's vocals lower in the mix and I will happily be proven wrong. My beliefs are shakeable, clearly unlike yours, which has resulted in childish and inane insults.

Evidence is in the ears. A child can notice when hearing Janet's part in the song, that some some parts are not audible. Like I said before,it is fact that MJ redid his. With that said, I'm done with you and this topic. Have a blessed day.

Well given the fact that Prince has like 34 albums to her 10 excluding greatest hits albums, he should outsell her. The fact that he's even that close to her in sales with twice as much output is indicative of his commercial relevance within the last 20 years. And Janet completed an 80 date world tour in 2011, so she hasn't been laying low for 6 years. Roght now she's on a break because she's been in the public eye since she was 7 so she's afforded it plus she has nothing out right now in which she has to be out. Prince, however just released an album and should be out promoting or touring for it instead of just remaining in hiding.

"the fact that he's even that close to her in sales with twice as much output is indicative of his commercial relevance within the last 20 years"

If Janet Jackson also released 1 (sometimes 2) LPs a year with at times minimal promotion, and questionable singles, overall flooding the market, I highly doubt she would be selling 10-15 million per record either. So really, they were on about the same level. Prince would release confusing, avant-garde LPs, refusing to tour in one of his biggest markets, releasing singles like "If I Was Your Girlfriend" and "Mountains", and then repeating the pattern with a new LP 10 months later. Janet would do full-scale tours, release perfect pop hits, and wait a few years. So the fact Prince STILL outsold her is more in favor OF his commercial relevance than against it. The world's patience for Prince speaks volumes about his 'relevance'.

My bad I didn't know she toured in 2011. And I agree, if anyone should be in the public eye right now it's Prince. Something tells me we're not getting a new album for a long time...

BTW this is in response to some of the Michael/Janet arguments up there...^^^^ I wouldn't doubt Michael Jackson lowered Janet's vocals on 'Scream'... while being the 2nd greatest selling solo act of all time and THE most successful during the whole 80s/90s/00s era, multiple sources I've read of him being extremely jealous and threatened by anyone. Forget Prince, look at Terence Trent D'Arby (who's made his opinions on this well-known) or Jermaine Jackson (Michael paid radios to stop playing Jermaine's songs) or George Michael (Jackson tried to stop GM's promotional campaign but George was already too powerful). He hated Madonna but was still ready to collaborate with her for the sake of a hit. I'm sure by 1987 he already disliked Prince but was ready to do 'Bad' for the sake of publicity. Trying to overshadow a pretty Jackson sister who was world-renowned and arguably the most successful female of the past 5 years? Easily believable.

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2
