I always find threads like this one funny because no one ever posts songs by any real goth artists who do scary music better than anyone.

Depends what you define as scary... heavy goth / metal stuff is the music equivalent of Hostel to me, where as something like Genesis - Home By The Sea feels to me more like The Shining or Ringu...if that makes sense! biggrin

Playing goth music or metal for my relatives or even people in the neighborhood & at work would be like taking Vainandy to an all Anita Baker & Whitney Houston tribute. lol

Skinny Puppy is industrial more than anything else. And while The Cure and The Banshees have much goth appeal, they are alternative bands, not goth.

Anyway, I'm not going to derail this thread anymore into a debate about who is goth and who isn't so here is a short spooky 100% real goth band playlist requested by JoeTyler:

1. Mask - Bauhaus

2. Trees - Skeletal Family

3. She's A Killer - Alien Sex Fiend

4. Eiland - Xmal Deutschland

5. Bury Me Deep - The Sisters of Mercy

6. This Is Heresy - Christian Death

7. Nicole - Mephisto Walz

8. The Black Cat - London After Midnight

9. Dissolve - Switchblade Symphony

10. Last Exit For The Lost - Fields Of The Nephilim

Nothing too obscure, all these songs should be very easy to find.

When i listen to bands like Bauhaus and Sister of mercy. It reminds me how boring goth music is nowadays. Goth... just like punk... has died out in 2014.

You gotta have THE EVIL ONE by Roky Erickson in your Halloween playlist. Every song is about monsters, demons, madmen or just plain old FEAR. If nothing else, download the song Night OF The Vampire.

And also Songs The Lord Taught Us and Psychedelic Jungle by the Cramps - TV Set, I Was A Teenage Werewolf, Human Fly... that's the stuff.

About half the Misfits' catalog is suitable too, including two songs both titled "Halloween". But take your pick, between Bloodfeast, Demonomania, Theme For A Jackal, Teenagers From Mars, you got a lot to pick from.

And it's out of character for them but I really get creeped out by the Kinks song Wicked Annabella.

I thought about that for a second, but it wasn't something I could turn around in a day. I need more time than that to put the actual songs together and make sure the final playlist is up to my standards.
