Yeah they deserve it too, but they usually give those awards out when the artist is promoting something. Even when mj and janet got their vanguard ones, they were promoting albums.

True. Kind of makes me feel like they could have given in to Prince (considering he is promoting 2 albums right now) I wonder how P would feel about getting an award with MJ's name attached to it lol

he would dance like mj at the james brown concert and leave the stage without giving a speech, all while keeping a straight face

Michael Jackson and Janet received the award because their music videos impacted and changed the MTV video culture. They did not get the award because they were promoting an album. They earned the award whether they was promoting an album or not. Britney, Justin nor Beyonce did not deserve the award period. They could have given the award to Missy Elliott or Bjork people who actually made creative music videos. Shoot, they could have given it to Eminem who at least switches his videos up with themes and story plots. I thought Stan was a clever creative video.

Well we already know they got it for impacting, it goes without saying lol but it was also during Bad and RN promo cause they were breaking records left and right. I agree eminem and those acts could have received it too. What happened to directors getting music videos? I think Hype Williams and Joseph Kahn deserve them.

Hype has a MTV video vanguard award.

I don't think someone should be awarded an award they technically don't deserve just solely off of promoting purposes but you know that is what they do in this new generation industry (which is the only point I was trying to make). I don't think Prince cares about a video vanguard award and I don't think it would appropiate to give him an award named after one of his peers. They could give him his own special video award but Prince is to legendary for such an award in my opinion. The award lost its credibility.

Blah, same people talking about Beyoncé like they have been doing for the past years. Predictable and boring. I'm out but before I'll remind everyone, that the world is bigger than the good ol USA. I think Beyoncé will be a legend, she's HUGE and has inspired a lot of artists and people in Europe, Latin America and West africa and South Africa. The impact is huge, even without -the most amazing PR machine in history. (sarcasm)

I guess the general population ONLY live in certain states in the US right? lol... lol The world is much bigger than your hometown folks...

Nollywood did a movie called Beyoncé and Rihanna back in 08.

"This is a story of two beautiful and sexy female singers, Bernice (Beyonce) and Rhyme (Rihanna) who are locked in a fierce battle of supremacy for the hottest and the most talented."

Sandton city Mall (one of the most pretigious malls in South Africa and Africa) showed her videos in several stores while I was there in 2010 and when I asked them - they told me she was a fashion inspiration to many new designers (I talked to a few of them - so talented!). (If I got time some day, I'll also upload news articles from several magazines from West Africa and South Africa)

http://afripopmag.com/2013/10/why-do-south-african-government-officials-love-beyonce-so-much/ (Interesting article and I agree that the government goes a bit 2 far and they should support local acts)

Random Swedish blogger and the obsession that swedes have with Beyoncé. Most artists in Scandinavia are HUGE Beyoncé fans and they copy- cat her looks all the time. Feminists in Scandinavia, Germany and northern Europe use her as an example.

http://zarish.blogg.se/2013/may/my-beyonce-experince-2.html

England, most pop singers say they're fans of her.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2536565/Cheryl-Cole-emulates-idol-Beyonce-stunning-ocean-vista-Cape-Town-break.html

Her newest album went nr.1 in all Latin American countries on the Itunes charts, this is quite unusual actually.

Again tho, people will only see what they like soo =)

That's really cool about fashion designers recognizing her. She always seemed passionate when discussing house of dereon. Korean acts in k pop have been inspired by her style and sound for years as well and cited her as one of the influences

The usual crap of Beytan. Her claimin she wrote songs that she didn't. And other shit that she took form others. She straight up in concert before Irreplaceable says ''i wrote this song'' when Ne-Yo wrote it. I'm sure she didn't write hardly anything on her new shitstrom album either. lol most ofher ideas aren't hers. Yet her fans think she's this goddess of creation and art.

I think artists tend to attract people that I are like them to them. So, we can safely assume most of her fans are stale, conventional, follow trends, delusional and irritating. I bet if we could do a scientifc survey, the results would corroborate what I'm sayin' here wink

How much of your assessment is subjective versus objective? I don't like Beyonce.

I think her voice is unpleasant. She can't dance (to my liking; she's no Janet Jackson).

And I think she's a moron; have you ever listened to her speak? She's inarticulate, a

telling sign, in my book, that she has not read much and ain't the sharpest knife in the

drawer.

But she's marketed ad nauseum because she's a legend already; that is an objective

fact of our reality, I'm afraid. She was on the cover of Time magazine, fer chrissakes.

So let's be real here, Dayze. The chick is a legend.

There's always talk of who should be cast as "Wonder Woman" if a movie were to ever be made (pleasde don't). Beyonce is always mentioned as non-traditional casting. But someone pointed out that Beyonce is so much an entity in herself that it just wouldn't work.

The people who made Judy Garland a legend but hated on Cher said the same thing. You are

simply a product of your era's hate-eration, Andy. Each generation thinks the succeeding

generation's standards of taste have diminished, while the preceding generation's standards are

the norm.

She's a legend, whether you like her (I don't) or not.

Well, Judy Garland's generation has gotten the last laugh because today's generation has undone most of the changes that occured after her type of music went out of style and now music has switched back to being totally dull and rhytmless like it was previously. Actually, now it's worse though.

Andy is a four letter word.

Um, yes. I happened upon a post that I disagree with. I offer an opinion (Beyonce is a legend)

based upon facts (She has graced the cover of Time magazine, which is historically significant)

and you're throwing a hissy fit?

What's your deal? Someone challenges you and you fold like a lawn chair? If you see the ex-

I said, and it was pleasant. Stop acting like a wuss and back up your opinions, homie!

Hijack unintended but that's another thing that always bugged the hell out of me about Prince. Especially in 1984 when TIME really had that authentic cache, what big dummy turned down the cover? You know who. If I'm not mistaken he was turning down everybody; Life, Rolling Stone, Newsweek. What kind of sense did that make?

Oh please are you serious? Your opinion is just that--an OPINION, your subjective point of view which is hardly based on facts lol You've got it totally backwards here--Beyonce is not marketed ad nauseum because she "already is a legend." With that kind of logic then that must mean Kim Kardashian is a legend too (after all she's marketed ad nause. and just graced the cover of GQ magazine--she can make covers like Beyonce too!) rolleyes

Beyonce is marketed ad nausesum because she pays for her publicity and hype machine to make ppl think she is this larger than life "legend" and reading the comments here I see ppl have unfortunately bought into her hype. Look, just because she made the cover of Time magazine doesnt make her a legend. I'm sure there were favor$ exchanged and deal$ made to buy her cover get her put on the cover. So in my book, no, she is not a legend because she hasnt dont anything legendary that will stand the test of time. That is my opinion but go ahead and disagree with it.

Well said, Naughty Kitty! That's exactly how I feel. If you pay someone long enough and for a large amount of money, they'll say anything about you. Her whole fame seems contrived to me. Less than organic. I think the fact that should couldn't be bothered with having a display in the RR Hall of Fame with her contemporaries spoke volumes of how delusional she is. She just HAD to be in the same area with David Bowie and MJ, like WHAT? Seriously. She's in love with herself and her camp knows how to market her a certain way. I swear I can't pick up a magazine, read a blog, or whatever without seeing this broad's face everywhere. That's not due to her fame it's due to the fact that she pays for that exposure, which I've had more than enough of.
