Whitney Houston biopic on Lifetime directed by Angela Bassett + new promo shot YAYA as WHITNEY

Lifetime has greenlighted Whitney Houston (working title), an original movie about the tragic music superstar who died in 2012. Helmed by Angela Bassett in her directorial debut, Whitney Houston is set for a 2015 premiere. It chronicles the tumultuous relationship between Houston and singer-songwriter Bobby Brown — from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity through their courtship and rocky marriage, all during Whitney’s meteoric rise as a singer, actress and model. “I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments, and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story,” said Bassett. “Their humanity and bond fascinates us all.” Produced by The Sanitsky Co., Whitney Houston comes from executive producer Larry Sanitsky and writer Shem Bitterman, the team behind Lifetime’s 2013 movie Betty & Coretta. That telepic told the dual real-life stories of Coretta Scott King (Bassett) and Dr. Betty Shabazz (Mary J. Blige).

I love that Bassett said that she had "such regard for BOTH Whitney and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments". People give Bobby a bad wrap but there's not doubt that those two were absolutely crazy in love with each other. I hope that the movie is positive and done brilliantly. Lifetime has a knack for making "cheesy" movies so I hope this one doesn't end up like that.

Whitney Houston biopic in the works, but the Houston estate is not happy about it. TMZ reports that the Houston’s family believes that the late singer/actress was too big of a star to have her life portrayed on the small screen and plan to take legal action to block production from beginning.

Pat Houston told TMZ , “Whitney is certainly worthy of more than a television movie. If Whitney were here today, this would not be happening.”

I don't think the estate could block a bio film from being made if they wanted to... It doesn't have to be authorized.

How about a Whitney movie made by Vainandy?

Yolonda Ross has signed up to play Whitney Houston's longtime good friend and assistant, who was also rumored to be her lesbian lover - Robyn Crawford - in the tentatively titled "Whitney Houston," the upcoming Lifetime Original Movie on the early years of the relationship between Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, which stars Yaya DaCosta Alafia in the title role

..LOL...I'm with you...The same team that Produced the Silver-screen flick "Ray" should come together and tell Whitney's story...They have to find the right screenwriter that can do the Damn thing. It has to be done right. For now I'll check out these TV movies that are sure to come...

Oh c'mon now. I'm not interested in a biopic that's going to sugar-coat things. I want the truth! And the truth is Nippy was a hot mess! lol Bless her soul.

Now, that is definately a case of let the dead stay buried. That was one of the worse, if not THE worse, career decisions she made, being a part of that side-show and humiliating herself!confused

I just don't see it like that! I found it fun and candid! I haven't even seen it all, just delightful clips.

I remember when "Being Bobby Brown" originally aired and I was speechless and laughing at the craziness of it all...It's as if she didnt edit that Shit with the Editors. It was the worst mistake she ever made career wise. There was one episode I felt sorry for her because her singing voice was shot...She tried to sing along with the piano player and you could hear what the drug use had already done to her voice....Poor "chubby" Bobby Kris just looked like a lost puppy always wanting ice cream...LOL...The whole show was a SHAME, shame, SHAME....

I was shocked that she agreed to be a part of the show because originally, she said she wouldn't be. I never watched an entire episode. I just remember seeing a few minutes of the show when she and Bobby were talking about their bathroom habits and digestive issues. I thought it was disgusting for an artist of her caliber to stoop so low so I decided against watching her humiliate herself any further. lol

The Bobby B. reality show may not have shown them both in a positive light, however, I have to say that aside from the first 10 seasons of MTV's The Real World, the B. Brown show was one that was truly "real" and not scripted.

Okay, I can understand if you want to disagree with someone's statement, but Bobbi Kristina's response to Angela Bassett's intelligent opinion is just beyond disrespectful and ignorant:

Bobbi Kristina Slams Angela Bassett, Says She Wanted to Play Whitney Houston in Lifetime Movie

Lily Harrison, eonline

Bobbi Kristina is not happy about the upcoming Lifetime movie about her mother's life.

Whitney Houston 's daughter took to Twitter to vent her frustrations about the soon-to-be filmed project directed by Angela Bassett.

So why was Bobbi so flustered in the first place?

Well, Bassett gave an interview about the highly anticipated movie toEntertainment Weekly and addressed why she never even thought twice about having Bobbi play the lead role.

"I did not think about casting her. And probably for a number of reasons, you know. One being that she's not an actress. I know she's acted here and there. I know she's been on their family's reality show, but she's not an actress and acting is a craft," she explained.

"It's an attempt to illuminate the complexities of human behavior and life. And this is a very fast-paced schedule; we have just 21 days to tell this story. It's more than just saying lines and turning the light on. You have to drive the story—there's a technical aspect."

And you know Bobbi wasn't going to take well…

The 21-year-old responded by tweeting , "Ha MsAng "bassketcase" has such a damn nerve my lord, at least the world doesn't mistake me for the wrong sex…she has some #XtraEquipment."

She added, "When I win my first Grammy or Oscar, *Shrugs* hmm whichever comes 1st, I'll be sure 2shout URname out b-tch! Hah UrTestResults = Male. Lmao."

Good times, right?

Meanwhile, earlier this month it was announced that former America's Next Top Model contestant Yaya DeCosta was cast to play the Grammy winner in the future biopic.

DeCosta began working as a child actor and had a recurring role on All My Children as well as Ugly Betty.

She also has been in hit films such as Lee Daniels' The Butler and Tron: Legacy.

Why be scared of her? She's just a non-singing, non-acting brat of famous singers who feels entitled for some odd reason. disbelief

Well, not to speak ill of the dead. But Whitney herself was a diva brat with a bad attitude. And Bobbi Kris is just taking after her mother...
