She's pretty much saying if you want me to reunite with THESE two, you're gonna have to make some consessions. Morrissey says he's asked every day if The Smiths will get back together. He said never. He reasons why people who hate each other would want to get back together for a reunion. Old age finally mellowed The Police enough to reunite, but Sting wasn't crazy enough to record again with them. Jody should just be honest and admit too much bad blood has been spilled and she just don't like them anymore.

Sting was part of the problem when The Police were an active group, not really wanting to sing songs written by Andy and starting fist fights and yelling at the other 2 when things weren't going his way. Omegaman was supposed to be a single and Sting threw a fit and it was withdrawn. Andy mostly sang because Sting would refuse to sing his songs or he would reluctantly participate on them. Sting even buried the master tape for Under My Camel. Someone dug it up. lol The song later won a Grammy.

I stand corrected. There was a popular assumption that Sting becoming the primary songwriter brought about tension in the band.

The Police were supposed to do another album around 1985, but the members started to fight again and spent a long time recording one song, which was Don't Stand So Close To Me 86. So the album was scrapped. Sting did play/sing on a couple of Andy's solo albums in 1990 & 1999.

I seriously doubt that Jody owns the rights to the name of the group. It was the long held property of Dick Griffey and SOLAR. Whoever owns the company now probably owns the name of the group. If Jody indeed owned the rights, then my guess is that she'd be more interested in reuniting than she appears to be, because that'd be more money going to her. Or hell, she wouldn't even need to be involved -- she could just license the name to Howard and whoever, let them tour as some new version while she collected a fee. Again, I would bet against her holding any legal claim to any name aside from her own. I can believe shed put out a cease and desist on them reuniting Shalamar with anything that promoted her name and likeness attached, but her owning the name of the actual group, I don't think so. Still on Jody's side. Obviously Shalamar was a more negative than positive experience for her. Would you return to a previous job that you didn't like, especially when it meant having to work with co workers you didn't get along with and have mostly negative memories of? I wouldn't. Jody moved on and doesn't want to be defined by a group that she basically had to escape from to keep her sanity. It seems like Jeffrey moved on too, but would do it if the other two agreed.. It seems like its mostly Howard that every 10-15 years or so gets an itch to light a match under a "reunion" that only he's interested in. [Edited 8/19/14 11:20am]

So are you saying that Jody is lying about that? Because she does say it.

As far as people not wanting to return to a job with colleagues they didn't like, I totally agree. I damn sure wouldn't do it. But my thing is this: why the hell does she keep entertaining the idea when she is still hating so much. Is it to show some control over them. Afterall, she did write the whole treatment for their proposed performance.

If you still don't like them, and it's clear she doesn't, then why even put yourself in the position of even being a possibility. Nobody is gonna die if Shalamar don't reunite. I'm not calling my doctors for health checks if I never see them onstage ever again in my lifetime. It just ain't that damn serious. So Jody, if therapy is not an option, then close the door, lock it, throw away the key and write your god damned memoires, which you keep threatening to write. That also feels like a threat when she talks about it. Like she really gonna spills something. People know way more than you think they do girl. it was the 80's. People got stoned. People talked alot.

Jeffery I think is in a hut in Africa somewhere (god forgive me) and Howard is working hard to try to snatch back his hairline. So they all pretty occupied.

I know one thing, and I'm not even a fan of BET, but I would never pick up the phone to her ever again. People already got their lives. A Shalamar reunion will not give me life. Just a cool breeze.

Here's current Shalamar member Carolyn singing and doing an interview at her church.

yeah,I guess I now feel the same way.I'm a huge Shalamar fan,but let's face it...some reunions are just not meant to be.Life goes on.

Wasn't Jody planning to release a new album? She recently released the first single....a fun,disco-sounding track that reunites her with the original male lead singer of Shalamar (before Howard).

anyone have any word on her new album?

Meh Jody is just starving for attention. She has pissed and moaned on Youtube about Shalamar for the last several years. If she wants to get back in the spotlight just beg Faith Evans for a spot on R&B Divas of LA and

pleeeze shut the fuck up already.

Oh wow that clip is so funny. Thanks for posting that.

I totally agree. I think it's baked and done.

Now let's see if Jody keeps going on and on about it.

I'm a fan of Shalamar too, like so many others, but as much as I like Miki with his sassy ass, Shalamar ended when Jeffrey moved to England and Jody told Howard to go fuck himself.

No where to go but down after that. lol

I think this cake is baked. But I want to thank Jody for that little piece of entertainment. That had me amused for awhile. And all these comments do make my day. wink

lol lol lol Good idea. But you know what, in an earlier post I was joking and said she needs her own reality show. She does seem a bit loopy. But not Latoya Jackson loopy. LaToya don't seem mad all the time.

I changed my mind. I think Jody would be boring as hell. Ain't nothing happening with her except some kind of dance track she put out. It was cute. But she seems too private. However, she is messy ass hell. So maybe R&B Divas is the right place for her. cool

EVERYONE has Ego, let's just put that to the point.

Ego isn't always bad. She's not some background singer, she is just as much Shalamar as Howard or Jeffrey. And I agree if your are going to do a show then do it right, blow it up.

I don't think it's about ego. And I can recognise a healthy ego, I think most people can. That's not what her post portrayed to me. Something else is going on there. We'll probably never know.

Also this wasn't a 'show'. It was the BET Awards where it's not all about you. It's actually about those who are there to receive an Award.

Somewhere that seems to have gotten lost with her.

I know that is what she claimed.

From the tape is seems she was the aggressor...

Why do I think if ithe tape had shown Jeff pushing her.... her story would have been so different.

I wouldn't be interested in a Jody Watley show these days but she does have a handful of songs I still o like. Still A Thrill, Real Love, Off The Hook, and a few tracks off Affairs of the Heart. After that album I had lost interest until she did Off The Hook which Atlantic never released the album. I never liked Larger Than Life except Real Love. Just quit talking the bullshit about Shalamar and being lazy like Jermaine Jackson(even he has tried a little lately)and get your ass on the road if you wanna prove it's all about you.

I don't think anyone is 'innocent' in any of this. But I have to disagree with you about the whole 'ego' issue. It is true that we all have this concept called the ego, but there is a difference between a healthy ego and an inflated or overexaggerated ego. I don't know why it upsets people that she is being called out for it. It won't be the first time.

If someone is good at what they do, EVERYBODY will tell them. They will have all the support imagined. But if you are good, you don't have to tell the public. You don't have to run off your own invented list of what you think you brought to the music industry in your 15 minutes of fame. And just adding a ridiculous social media example, if you are as 'important' as you say you are, you will have 15 million followers on IG, without following 1. Now that's making a mark on music or the industry itself.

I don't ever recall Robin Williams writing about himself 'I'm an innovator in comedy, others look up to me, they copied me, you see my influence in them, those suspenders made me a style icon, I won an Oscar'. NO!! People told him that; they wrote that about him. I'm using him as an example of a person who truly made a mark on this world, without question, and he actually said a joke or 2 about BET, so he was in the mix. He had his finger on the pulse of pop culture.

Maybe its a mid-life crisis for her. wink

Honestly, it isn't that deep. This shit between band members have been going on for -ever lol Howard, Jeff and fans have wanted to do a reunion...of anytype for some time. Watley isn't having it. Oh yeah all of them have acted a fool for sure but its my understand Watly caught it - label, Howie & Jeff- from all sides. Walty was dogged. During the Unsung doc, Howard groveled through out the program in hopes Jody would come around. It was funny to learn when she decided to jump ship then Solar promised the girl everything but the moon in hopes she stay with them and the group. To little to late.

So, every couple of years Jody goes through these diatribes about the group. shrug I find more funny than anything else. Besides, woman don't forget shit. lol

IA that it's not that deep, which is why the resurgence of this thread and the not-so-backhanded cynicism levied at Watley is...odd. If she doesn't want to do a Shalamar reunion, or is only willing to consider it on her own terms, then so what? Why should she have to humble herself to participate in some entity that didn't respect her talent, played favorites, subjected her to the worse kind of industry sexism and basically smacked her like a dog?

Look, Shalamar was clearly a bad experience for Jody. She has a sordid past with the other two members, and time clearly hasn't resolved all (or even most of) the angst. No one is going to walk back into a situation like that without some kind of perk that benefits them or at least protects them from having to endure a rehash of the BS from before...especially if it's a situation that they don't particularly NEED. Who knows what the behind-the-scenes squabbling is that's keeping Jody from agreeing to reunite with Shalamar, but I strongly suspect that most of it is probably because everyone else involved wants to rehash the old 1981 set up that basically favors Howard and would return her to being his lackey. And if Jody continues to talk about Shalamar, then my guess is that it's because people continue to bring it up to her. Meanwhile every decade or so, Howard and Jeffrey get in the media and attempt to instigate buzz for a possible reunion that tries to coax Jody to return and vilifies her should she say no for whatever reason. That's not how you negotiate with someone you have a dark past with in hopes that they'll let it go and be willing to move forward.

Everyone who started with a group and later went on to have solo success wants the name they made for themselves on their own, and their accomplishments, to be acknowledged. That's especially true if the break up was contentious. Things can't go back to being exactly the same as they were before. No one wants to regress. Do you think Bobby Brown would rejoin New Edition if he couldn't command a bigger piece of the spotlight, get up on stage and sing "My Prerogative" and "Every Little Step" at some point during the show and have his solo accomplishments be acknowledged as part of the program? Is Ice Cube going to rejoin NWA without the architecture of said reunion recognizing his star and treating him accordingly? The answer is no. It's the reason Mary Wilson won't rejoin the Supremes with Diana. You used me then, so I'm using you now. Take it or leave it. It's the same for Jody. If they're not willing to compromise a little, and if she (like some here are trying to insinuate) is so expendable, then grab a replacement and go at it as a new Shalamar. But my guess is that they don't wanna do that because they know that the most famous lineup, which includes her, is the most attractive to fans/promoters and would be the more profitable. Jody knows it too! biggrin Yeah, payback is a bitch, ain't it? Let this be a lesson for how you treat the people you're working with.

That's not the same thing. It's not a concert, album, or tour. It's for an awards show on BET. Not a permanent reunion. Until Jody announced it, did anyone even know Shalamar was asked to do the show? lol BET wanted Shalamar, not them as solo acts. Okay she is friends with Gerald Brown now and she going to bat for him
during her infamous Unsung rant and taking selfies with him lol Rewind to 1987 when she was on Video Soul and actually laughed at him for his departure from the group because he felt like he was the star and being replaced by a better singer in Howard Hewitt. She also dismissed his departure as oh well he was older than us anyway. lol I guess it would have been okay for him to get a brief 30 second segment on Unsung for his brief 30 second stint with the group on Take That To The Bank. lol Didn't Jody fall out with her good friend Jermaine Stewart too at one time? For the record I know Howie and Jeff weren't saints either but Ms. Watley needs to chill with the holier than thou shit. Nobody is gonna shit a brick if the classic 3 don't reunite.
