The first group was Troop. That's a Jackson 5 remake I believe.

I remember the name Troop, but never heard that song. No Bobby Womack mentions, sad.

LOL they do a Bobby Womack tribute only to cut it short!

Notice how they cut off anyone who can really sing even a bit? Yolanda was lucky!

In fairness Womack just died. They didn't have enough time for a full tribute.

I think that was the most articulate diss towards another rapper that I've heard in ages! I'm not the biggest fan of Nikki but I applaud her for calling out this loser Iggy who completely swagger jacked Nikki!

Is it me or has it seemed like for the past few years, big stars die like a day or so before the BET awards. That's why the 2009 BET awards tribute to Michael was so terrible, I believe his death happened within a few day of the awards show.

Founds this:

Iggy Azalea the Australian rapper currently locking down the number one AND number two spots on Billboard (with this hit at the top and Ariana Grande’s “Problem,” which features Azalea. But the person who wrote and sings that hook is British pop performer Charli XCX.

I think Izzy writes her stuff except for that song. I could be wrong though.

We all know how fishy the subject is of artists writing their own songs. We have no idea if Iggy changed a word or two and got songwriting credits.

If I had to guess I'd say Iggy most LIKELY wrote her rap, but of course didn't write the hook, which was sung by a whole other artist. It's like Left Eye in TLC. She never sang a note, but she's pretty much the only member of the group with significant writing credits because she wrote her own raps. I was persoannly pulling for Charlie Baltimore! Let's hear it for the Veterans. Remember this?

I was thinking that I heard that a long time ago but wasn't sure. Maybe he's making moves to take over Young money altogether. That would actually be smart.

Nicki Minaj mocks Iggy Azalea, accuses her of not writing her own music

on June 30, 2014, 12:12am

Iggy Azalea has taken hip-hop by storm over the last year, making history with a pair of chart-topping singles and impressive live performances. But not everyone is a fan. Nicki Minaj recently took umbrage with a Forbes article declaring Azalea the new face of hip-hop, and she again made her opinion known during the BET Awards on Sunday.

During Azalea’s performance, Minaj was caught on camera appearing to mock her with dance moves and poses similar to those featured in Azalea’s “Fancy”. Then, after beating out Azalea to win Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, Minaj declared, “When Nicki Minaj spits, Nicki Minaj wrote it,” insinuating that Azalea does not write her own music.

Watch video of the two moments below. Something tells me this is only the beginning of their feud.

If Minaj were smart she wouldn't engage in this. If Forbes wants to say that a person with only two hits is the next "face of hip-hop", so be it. Sometimes I feel like the entire interview that Prince did a few years ago with Tavis Smiley should be mandatory viewing for all these folks who were present at the BET awards.....ownership is a true sign of a come up

By the way, did she say in her speech that BET was black owned because I thought it was sold a few years ago.

How can we compare one artist who has won the same award for five years in a row to another artist who didn't win and only has two hit songs? I've never seen this kind of dynamic before. Is this Iggy chick really THAT much better than everyone else in hip-hop? Maybe the people rocking out in the crowd were Aussies smile

It's a summer jam, reminiscent of Gwen Stefani in so many ways.

"Problems" again is a summer jam, reminiscent of Mariah Carey in so many ways. It's that simple. They beg to be blasted from car stereos, not unline Minaj's "Moment For Life" or "Superbase" some years ago. That's why the audience was jammin. But Minaj was definitely mocking.

Yeah most people just like a sound more than the personality attached to it. But, she better not have a short memory because plenty of folks thought Nikki was trash when she debuted wink

I had watched the BET Awrds for 2012 and 2013 and

I had been thinknig that the 2014 show may be worthwhile but not as

good because the two prior shows were excellent A grade

level performances, variety, humanitarianism,

professionalism, comedy, and sexiness. But, the 2014 show was

at least as good as the prior two shows and if

you consider the Las Vegas Circus style stuff from

ladies and dudes, maybe it was little better.

Additionally, ladies upside down in black stocking and garters

and similar stuff that you would think was limited only to Showtime and Skinimax.

i could have watched all of show with the volume on mute and

still enjoyed for the female eye candy. (There is stuff for women too

such as the guy that I think Jennfier Hudson was singing to

when he took his shirt off and he looked like a replica of

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson or Terry Crews, who also

participated on stage.)

For a show that was more than 3 hours it effectively

avoided the feel that it got stagnant or was too long.

Chris Rock kept the MC activites lively the enire night

and totally fulfilled the high expectations of him.

There was a bit that involved audience participation with

celebrity audience members and Chicken & Waffles from Roscos

that was very clever comedy.

The actor and actress portions were plenty interesting.

For example, the humorous acting job that Kevin Hart

did when he co-presented an award with Kerry Washington.

I know that John Legand is an excellent vocal talent

but I did not expect to enjoy, rather than tolerate,

the multiple songs that he performed as much as

I did. As usual, BET did an excellent job with inclusion

of multiple generations of R&B music and even a salute

to the 1990's when Troop, Color Me Badd, and Silk all perfomred in succession.

The 2014 BET Awards deserved and rewarded my anticipation of it since late May.
