Madonna to work with Drake and Daft Punk?

by Bang Showbiz | 17 February 2014

Madonna wants to collaborate with Drake.

The 55-year-old singer has confirmed she's started working on her new album, the follow-up to her 2012 'MDNA' soundtrack, and she'd love to have the rapper collaborate with her on one of the songs.

When asked if she's planning a new album, she said: ''Yes, plans are in the works already. Don't ask me with who - it's a secret. Top secret.''

When asked if she has plans to work with Drake, she told the Canadian Press: ''If he'll have me!''

Meanwhile, the 'Hung Up' hitmaker previously said she wanted to get in touch with Daft Punk because she wanted the electronic duo to help produce some of her tracks.

She said last year: ''I would love to work with Daft Punk. Just waiting for them to return my call.''

However, it appears Daft Punk told Pharrell Williams - who has worked with Madonna in the past - two years ago that they were also interested in collaborating with the energetic star.

Pharrell said: ''We were at a party for Madonna's last album and I was like [to Daft Punk], 'You guys should have produced this! Why did that not happen? Madonna and the robots would have been unbelievable!' They were like, 'We're working on something'.''

Without the long break and the Superbowl Halftime Show performance, this album will probably get half the attention MDNA got, unfortunately. She's better off starting the tour even before the album is out so nobody would pay attention at low album sales.

As for collaborators, I don't see Daft Punk giving her tracks, their style is different, all the Patrick Leonard, Nile Rodgers and Giorgio Moroder reunions/collabs are just fan wishes, nothing more. She will obviously A&R a lot of tracks from songwriters and producers and make an EDM album again. People like Max Martin, will.i.am or Fernando Garibay might be a safe bet, considering her last 3 albums has producers previously recorded with Britney Spears (Bloodshy & Avant, Danja, Klas Ahlund)... lol

A little cynical aren't you? Yes, she has worked with dance music producers but not quite the mainstream ones you are saying such as Max Martin, Wil I. Am and Garibay. Bloodshy and Avant have worked with lots of other artists besides Britney. On Madonna forums, it's rumored she's working with Diplo since she and her manager are both following him on Instagram. And why shouldn't she make an EDM album? Dance music and clubs have always been at the heart of her music from the very beginning. Aren't Daft Punk and Giorgio electronic based producers too?

I think the long break actually hurt rather than helped MDNA. Out of sight, out of mind. It happens with a lot of artists, the longer they go away the less well a new album does because fans move on and lose interest if you take too long. But album sales for all artists her age are pretty low. People don't buy albums that much, they listen on spotify. But people seem to always want to attack Madonna for being a failure, and not other artists of her generation.

Well said.Fans have to accept the fact that Madonna is now a "veteran artist".She's not gonna sell 15 million copies of an album anymore and have several Top 10 hits singles. For her, that's not really a problem though, since her tours are so lucrative.Records sales aren't her main focus these days.I also have no problem with her doing an EDM album. That's pretty much her audience these days and it has been since Ray Of Light.

It may not happen lol She was doing an interview and was asked about her next album. Someone in the crowd shouted Drake's name, but we don't know if she's intending to work with him. That's just speculation. She took her son to a Drake concert a few months ago and I think that's why some people think she will now work with him.

It's funny because in general I'm not a huge EDM/club person even though I like some electronics, but I feel that the dance things suit her best. In general, my favorite genre of music is rock/alternative/indie but I don't feel that sound suits her voice or her sensibility. I think most artists are naturally drawn to and sound best doing a certain kind of music and for Madonna it's dance. I think she can though record a few ballads and slower songs like Falling Free or Masterpiece on the last album for variety. I would like to hear a really good downtempo electro ballad similiar to Frozen or the Power of Goodbye from ROL. That's a sound could fit in with more uptempo EDM stuff on an album.

Madonna is really smart about not burning a bridge when people suggest who she should work with, but it always sounds like she just confirmed she is working with.. whoever (ie. Drake or Daft Punk)

I didn't like MDNA, less than half the songs only. I think she should work with nile and giorgio, they're not getting any younger. Save daft punk for the album after.

I love the early rumors and questionable tracklists lol Already,a supposedly "inside source" claims that the album is further along that we think, and that the following tracks have been recorded:

Between the bars
Trust
Yankie boy
Love not lost
Shades
Night record
Long dance
Happy steal
Our park
Give it away

***"Trust" is a rejected song from the MDNA sessions.Co-written by Sia.

***"Between The Bars" really exists. She performed it at a recent event and a studio version was recorded several months ago.

Don't know about those other titles lol some of those titles are weird, lol

latest rumor/update:

was speaking to someone on Instagram who states a friend of his has been hired along with a few writers to come up with sounds/melodies/ideas - but Madonna will be writing the bulk of it- instructions were that she doesn't give a fuck - she wants dark, edgy, unconventional sounds - specifically Italian Disco vibes or "italo disco vibes".

"dark,edgy,unconventional sounds" hmmm

This sounds interesting.

I hope this rumor is true. That sounds hot to me. I'd love to see it happen, especially with Nile Rodgers as the producer.

Why is she wearing some Bjork type shit? and making songs that sound like Miley Cyrus faire. She seriously needs to step her game way the fuck up. I get that she's all about reinvintion and blah blah blah. But, it's like she will jump on any train. I bet there will be a trap song, some song featuring a rapper, a typical balad, a club song, and some half hearted attempy at a song with a 3rd grade guitar rift.

If she is truly the ''queen'' she needs to act like it. And quit making music so shitty, that it makes J-Lo sound as good as Kate Bush.

It doesn't sound too different from the synthy hi-NRG dance music of the eighties. But the style is literally from Italy.

Why are so hateful? She's not jumping on a train, she has always been a dance influenced artist and came up through the club scene. What could be more Madonna than Italian disco? She's part Italian and she's always been influenced by dance and disco music. MDNA was a lot better than J LO, it's ridiculous to even compare them. I love Kate Bush, but that kind of music isn't Madonna. She lives and breathes dance music, always has and always will.

On instagram, she says she's going to the studio with Avicii.

Depends on how you define "relevant". lol her last tour grossed over $300 million and she was the highest paid musician/artist of 2013.

Yeah,I don't see Madonna "jumping on a train".She is simply being herself, doing what she has always done: dance music. No need to change course at this point.

A fan's take on this announcement:

who says dance music can't be grown up? If the last few years are anything to go by, I have a feeling we'll be getting thought provoking lyrics combined with an interesting fusion of electronic goodness. Martin Solveig was very limited in what he could do but Avicii is definitely more talented

Avicii is the completely obvious move from her, just like Benny Benassi was after his Celebration remix. The more important news here is that she's already in the studio so even a late Summer/early Fall release date is possible. Remember, she went to the studio early July 2011 last time and the finished Give Me All Your Luvin' (without guests) leaked early November already!
