Mariah's Latest "You're Mine" + Album Info

February 10, 2014
Link

Make way for Mariah. The pop diva will return with her first album in nearly five years this May.

The follow-up to 2009′s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel will arrive on May 6, she announced on Instagram and via a promo video.

Mariah also revealed the Valentine’s Day-inspired artwork for her new single, “You’re Mine (Eternal),” which will premiere on Wednesday, February 12.

She debuted the song live at “BET Honors” in Washington, D.C. over the weekend.

The album has already spawned last summer’s Miguel-assisted smash “#Beautiful” and the Rodney Jerkins-produced ballad “The Art of Letting Go.”

This is the same shit i was talking in my ''favorite artist records'' thread. Mariah is OBSESSED with her records. So are the ''lambs'' there almost worse than Madonna, Beyonce, Janet and rihana. But not by much lol

So you got 18 number 1 hits? and won awards? WHO GIVES A FUCK. Make a good song you old hag! fuck your useless awards. Beautiful with Miguel was actually a really good song. It had an old motown feel, and the Miguel part lyrically was like a 70's Springsteen song.

But, she needs to let the awards shit go. She even lied saying Beautiful went number 1 lol rolleyes

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

I'm really hoping I like this one. I didn't like the last 3 singles.

The promo video is disgusting. Get over yourself. It says everything everyone already knows about her and virtually nothing about the new project.

And a candy heart motif? From a woman in her mid 40s? This single better really be a killer because I'm already ready to hate it, and I know I'm not the only one.

I hope this will be a rapper-free affair buoyed by distinctive melodic hooks and strong vocals. I've been so disinterested in all her recent singles with one exception: "The Art of Letting Go," which unfortunately performed horribly on the charts.

Art of letting go was a boring song, nicely produced but with a lack of melody that helped with how fast it went down the drain

I also loved Beautiful

Sounds like it's going for a We Belong Together/I Stay In Love kind of vibe, but not quite as memorable, as it appears to be missing the big refrain that keeps it in your head. It's a nice R&B effort, and the vocals sound strong, but I don't see it doing as well as #Beautiful chartwise. It kind of makes me wonder if she has any big tracks in her arsenal this time around.

I had previously dismissed her Columbia era work as a mélange of saccharine ballads and colorless pop/soul numbers. But now, nothing would please me more than to see her back with her former co-writer Walter Afanasieff.

At this point it is what it is with Mariah, to be totally honest EVEN if she passes the Beatles one day with a 21st number one (as if her head could get bigger) who the hell is actually gonna care? if she beats them say this year, It took her 24 years to do it, it took the Beatles 6 years. Plus Mariah had the bonus of new chart systems, where you could sell singles for almost nothing, gimmicks and tricks and whatever, plus remakes and duets, and very little competition in her field. So I get it Mariah, but the "ass kissing" of yourself is really played out now, we get it, you are a star, people that have to keep saying i, are the ones that usually doubt it themselves. I mean does Don Henley and the eagles go around saying "if i take a shit, a few million will buy it". Mariah you are a talented hot woman, plain and simple, but grow up already, do your little remixes with the flava of the day, but stop the BS already, its old, like you are, yes you are old, and that ISNT a bad thing.

Like 99% of veteran artists, Mimi peaked a while ago. Her days of making classic albums are over. I'm not expecting this to be a great album by any means. But, I do hope it's listenable and that there are a few memorable songs on it. I just wish she would stop employing all of the rappers and so-called, wanna-be R&B singers and just concentrate and place the sole focus on what made her a superstar in the first place - her voice. It's a bloody shame the only time we can get her to do that is on a Christmas album.

Mariah hasn't done an album with rappers since 2008. She saves that for the remixes, which is fine by me. I love her voice though so I'll buy anything she does. biggrin cool

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, here are both versions of the song. Produced by Rodney Jerkins.

Not bad. Probably the best of the single releases thus far. Would have been better if real instruments were used.

I like the keyboard melody and the lyrics, but someone other than Jerkins should have handled production chores. There's a beautiful song underneath the audio effects.
