I know some have a love/hate feeling for Itunes and its companions or downloading overall, that's OK by me, it is here to stay. If you are so inclined, you can stream Pearl Jam's upcoming album Lighting Bolt prior to the official release October 15. My taste in music is as varied as most here and I will buy this new album when it is available. I respect Pearl Jam for their longevity, convictions and integrity. This will be my first download of their music.

If you like 1980s hair rock, here's a new song by The Pretty Reckless that has that sound.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

http://www.okayplayer.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/amel-larrieux-ice-cream-cover-lead.jpg

“Ice Cream Everyday” (Blisslife Records), Amel’s upcoming fourth solo album, is slated for release in 2013.

Neo Soul lovers can start making room in their music collection, and save a space for the highly anticipated fifth studio album of Groove Theory’s former member, Amel Larrieux, who is set to release ‘Ice Cream Everyday,’ in 2013.

Larrieux was introduced to the music scene in 1995 as the female singer, alongside Bryce Wilson who together made up the duo, Groove Theory. It was when Amel and Bryce went their separate ways that soul and jazz lovers alike were introduced to the sultry solo sound of Amel Larrieux, through her debut album, ‘Infinite Possibilities.’

The forthcoming album, ‘Ice Cream Everyday,’ will be Larrieux’s third album to be released off her self-owned independent label, Blisslife Records, which she founded with husband/producer Laru Larrieux. After a five-year hiatus from the music scene, Larrieux has been busy recording and promoting an album that only a couple of years ago, she was hesitant to give a release date for.

During a 2011 interview with Huffington Post, Larrieux explained why she does not like to put a date on any of her projects. “We almost regret when we give a release date, because one of the nice things about being independent is having the luxury of not really having deadlines.,” explained Larrieux. “We make our own deadlines and then we break them all the time, because in the end, the finished product has to be something that we can really get behind. This time around, it’s just been a lot of editing and changing our minds and things like that. We didn’t want to have a disjointed product. So I won’t give a date anymore. I won’t ever do that again.”

But the Grammy-nominated songstress has indeed done that again. Only this time, she sounds pretty confident in this release date of August 27th. The album’s latest single, “Afraid,” reached “the number one most added song in the country at Urban AC radio,” as reported by Eurweb.com. And is expected to do well in overall album sales and pre-order sales.

So what caused the huge delay in the production and release of the album? Larrieux explained the five-year waiting period during a recent interview with Essence.com. “…It took five years for a number of reasons. First, I’m raising two amazing teen daughters—which is a job.” Larrieux explained. “I’m not one of those people that say I can do everything. Throughout making the album, I’ve had to stop one thing or the other to focus on what needed my attention at that time. Funny enough, it was easier when my kids were younger but now there are different things I have to be available for, questions I have to answer.”

Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Diane Birch has released her sophomore album Speak A Little Louder on October 15 via S-Curve Records. Called "a bold evolution" from her 2009 debut Bible Belt, the album was recorded in New York City and written by Birch with an interesting array of collaborators including Aqualung frontman Matt Hales, Dap-Kings drummer Homer Steinweiss, and R&B singer Betty Wright.

From the Press Release: The album's first single, "All The Love You Got," was produced by Roots drummer Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, Eg White (Adele) (who also co-wrote the song with Diane) and S-Curve Records founder Steve Greenberg (Joss Stone). Stream the track below. Eight songs on the album are produced by Homer Steinweiss. The deluxe version will feature five additional songs.

'Speak A Little Louder' undeniably marks a creative evolution for Birch as she processed deep personal issues over the past four years including the death of her father and the break-up of a long term relationship. The album expresses a range from "soulful torch" (NY Times' T Style) "All The Love You Got" to heartbreakingly hopeful "Unfkd." The 11 tracks are emotionally inclusive, embracing Birch's vulnerabilities and creating an artistic statement unlike anything she has recorded before.

Birch's 2009 debut, 'Bible Belt' led to performances on The Today Show and every major late night TV show, earning raves from The LA Times that celebrated Birch's "rebellious spirit with a soulful bent" and BlackBook that proclaimed her "a knockout solo siren."

Think Joni Mitchell meets Laura Marling and you’ve got a good idea as to what Lily Mae, a 17-year-old Contemporary Folk singer-songwriter, sounds like. Lily has been performing since she was four and released her debut EP, "Early Days," in 2012. The CD release concert for "Early Days" attracted over 250 people. Since then, her music has been garnering airplay internationally. She was first introduced to WXPN as their Pick of the Day, and most recently, was a live guest on Gene Shay's Folk Show. Lily's list of artists she has opened for includes: Livingston Taylor, Ben Taylor, Jenny Owen Youngs, and The Marshall Tucker Band.

Lily hails from Bucks County, PA, but seems to have quite the following in the UK. "Early Days" has been reviewed on both Folk Radio UK and For Folk's Sake. For Folk's Sake called Lily "a younger Laura Marling before she was scorned by life." Truly amazing, prodigal, and innovative are all words that have been used to describe Lily's work.

With only 17 years to her name, Lily has played at some of New York's finest venues, including: The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, and Pianos. You can catch Lily this summer at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Musikfest, and the Black Potatoe Music Festival.

Industry legend and President Emeritus of Blue Note Records, Bruce Lundvall says, "Lily Mae has a signature voice, writes excellent songs, and is a future star."

Kathy Saunders from the popular UK folk music website "For Folk's Sake" describes Lily Mae's voice, "The undulating vocals tell a tale of love, loss and the possibility of learning something in the aftermath of it all."

John Cole of WDVR FM's Tempus with John Cole says, "A sculptured voice from the soul of a tender heart. Lily Mae's performance is a rare, nakedly powerful human expression that captivates."

Spencer Stephenson (aka Botany) has fallen into new age electro. He describes his creations like paintings. Here are his words:

“On Lava Diviner, I wanted to conjure that same headspace that artists like Roger Dean, and even Zdzislaw Beksinski project in their iconic paintings. I tried to evoke those grand, colourful, surreal landscapes that are mind-bending yet oddly comforting – sci-fi and epic and holy, all at the same time.”

"Britain's Got Talent's" Susan Boyle Records Christmas Duet with Elvis

Photo provided by Mirror.Co.UK
Susan Boyle's New Album 'Home For Christmas' Out Today

A new album from singing sensation and "Britain's Got Talent" runner-up Susan Boyle will feature a duet with the late King of Rock 'n' Roll. Boyle's fifth studio album "Home For Christmas" will feature Elvis' voice alongside hers in the Christmas classic "Oh Come All Ye Faithful."

Boyle tells the Mirror.co.uk , "I grew up listening to Elvis and to sing with him, well, I didn’t think it would be possible. Isn’t technology brilliant?”

Boyle's new album "Home For Christmas" will be released on November 25, 2013.

Susan Boyle's duet with Elvis Presley is being released as a Christmas single to raise money for charity.

Royalties from the version of "O Come, All Ye Faithful" will go to Save The Children.

The singing star, who shot to fame on Britain's Got Talent, said: “Duetting with Elvis was beyond my wildest dreams. And now that this is able to raise money and help children is simply fantastic.”

Boyle, who has become an ambassador for the charity, filmed the video for the track at a Glasgow primary school.

She said: “I've had the privilege of spending time with families from a Fast programme - Families And Schools Together - that is run at a school in Glasgow. To see the money raised in action and the difference it makes to these families is wonderful. It really does help people.

“The children from the Fast programme also joined me for the music video. We had a lovely two days and the children were fabulous. They were all stars.”

The single, from Boyle's fifth album, will be released on Sunday December 8.

In a recorded message to a central London press conference, music supremo Simon Cowell said he was “proud” of the star.

He said: “No-one of all the people I've met has a bigger heart than you”.

The charity's chief executive, Justin Forsyth, said he hoped the song would “highlight the plight of children around the world”.
