It's Official: Lady Gaga's "Applause" BOMBS

http://www.examiner.com/article/lady-gaga-desperately-tweets-she-s-number-one-as-applause-crashes-and-burns

Now, if everything this article is saying is true (and there are links to more reliable sources in the article) than Gaga is pathetic. Having your fans offer sex in order to increase your sales? Artificially boosting chart position by telling your fans to keep refreshing youtube views? This is absolutely revolting. Even Mariah Carey wouldn't do this.

The Examiner is brutal lol I remember they did a similiar article about Mariah Carey's "Beautiful",another recent song that was overhyped and didn't really live up to sales expectations....

Lady Gaga desperately tweets she's number one as 'Applause' crashes and burns

August 15, 2013

On Thursday afternoon, Lady Gaga once again falsely tweeted information to try and inflate her success. She claims she is number one wordwide on iTunes. The problem, as indicated by several blogs and an iTunes tracker site is that in several countries, Gaga's 'Applause' is dropping like a huge stone.

Despite having a contest which gave special gifts to fans who downloaded multiple copies of "Applause" and displayed their receipts, "Gaga's new song hasdropped 36 percent in sales since yesterday. It now sits at number 3 behind Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines." A 36 percent decrease in sales is very unusual for a song, especially one that is hyped up as the biggest song of the year and one in which even Gaga's fans areprostituting themselves for online.

In the United Kingdom, where the song was also expected to hit number one, the song has already dropped to number 4. The good news is that instead of dropping 36 percent like she did in the United States, England appreciates her slightly more as she has dropped slightly less -- 33 percent. Lady Gaga drops 24 percent in Canada, 19 percent in France and 12 percent in Germany.

Some of these numbers may not seem that bad, but one has to keep in mind that "Applause" was only released a couple days ago. The drop in sales is unprecedented for such a hyped song. It's important to note that unlike in Lady Gaga's imaginary tweets, the song certainly isn't number one in any major country worldwide and will probably not even be in the top ten by next week.

There is worse news for the Madonna wannabee: An iTunes rep tells us that had Gaga's numbers not been goosed by several fans buying as many as 300 copies each, numbers would have been far worse. "In the United States, 'Applause' is set to sell between 200,000 and 250,000 copies this week. But without the multiple purchases, sales would probably be between 170,000 and 200,000. I've never seen any artist so desperate to inflate their numbers," the rep tells us.

If iTunes sales don't work out, Gaga can always count on YouTube views. She has asked fans to refresh her video several times. This is significant in that Billboard now considers YouTube views for charting songs. Some Gaga fans have watched her clip more than 1,000 times. This desperation certainly represents the fall of Lady Gaga, who used to be very influential on the pop music scene.

I don't think Lady Gaga is going around saying "use your body for song sales". The crazies are doing it on their own. Nicki Minaj retweeted pics of her fans who bought like 20 of her albums. Some people are just crazy obsessed with some people. I do think Gaga is getting insanely desperate. I understand she's trying to show she can still sell after 2 years of being absent but I think this is ridiculous. And I'm not listening to the examiner because it's bias level is WAY too extreme. Also the song hasn't officially gone on radio.

Which is why I'm more in Katy's corner than caca's. Katy gets that shes just a pop star going out and entertaining, she has a positive message of empowerment of self while being fun and enjoyable.

Caca just tries to hard to be an artist by way of promotion and it aint working. She has talent but she's too blantent in her stealing which doesn't work when you are trying to impress the hipsters.

Agree! And Katy does not take herself too seriously whereas Gaga is going on about her music being art. It's disposable EDM with a few clever hooks but in no way is it art!!

That's how it goes when you write a boring song. And hype it to no end. It's a bit ironic that Gaga jokes about critics saying she's over, when it seems like people really are starting to get tired of her. The girl can sing and she is an interesting character, it's just a shame that she doesn't produce material that fits her artsy persona.

I mean, c'mon. Since Billboard has foolishly decided to use youtube views as a determination for chart positions, this kind of "refreshing" behavior is going to become common place for fans of so-called "relevant" artists to make sure their songs will chart high. The Billboard Charts can't be taken seriously any more. The music business is a complete and total circus right now. And as long as youtube and social media are determining factors in a song's chart performance, things are only going to get worse.

I'm not one to deny that her success had a lot to do with the strong hooks and that the newer songs have lacked them for the large part, but there's a bit of an image problem going on there too.

A lot of young women could see themselves in the "party girl" persona she had during the early stages of her career, but why would anyone really want to identify with that "hazed clown" thing? When she was starting out she was "gaga" in that "hey, let's put out these really crazy shades when we go out and combine them with a really short skirt, we're going to look so crazy!" kind of way - not crazy in that "lock her up before she becomes dangerous" way. 15-25-year-olds idolized her, but not so sure if that's the case anymore.

she suffers from the madonna syndrome imo. we know she can sing and write a good melody,

but she choses to burry whatever semblance of a melody she creates under so many layers of

horrible production that all the life is drained out of her songs.

.

people like to dance and people like to listen to a catchy pop song, but what people like more

is something that has an actual, beautiful melody, a strong hook and some sincerity. lyrics an

audience can relate to, or at least something a bit more thought provoking. and if it's just goof

lyrics than at least have them be just that without taking yourself too serious -like she did on

her first album. most songs on that one are still better than what she did with her last album.

and it sounds like this new album won't improve on them either.

.

the clips of her performing "the fame" songs solo on piano were infinately more interesting and

beautiful than anything she's done since. sometimes less is more. especially with dance songs

and their overbearing production these days.

You would think she has heard this enough times that she might release something more acoustic or organic.

.

I think part of Adele's success was that her backing tracks did NOT sound like they were being beamed down from the Starship Enterprise.

I know this is the conventional wisdom about Lady Gaga, but I've never been that impressed with her songs when it's just her at the piano. To me, she's not a strong enough pianist to really pull that off, like Tori Amos. I like her dance stuff, but not so much Applause which is kind of a weak song. I think she should keep doing dance but write stronger songs. I know everyone thinks acoustic is more artistic or sincere, but I personally find acoustic super stripped down tracks a little dull. There's a place for acoustic organic music, but that doesn't mean it's for everyone. There should also be a place for electronic more produced stuff. It all depends on the melody and the hook of the song, if that is good. I know production gets a bad name but I enjoy more slick produced things because there are more sounds and levels to hear. I just personally have never been that wild about super stripped down acoustic music. One or two songs like that on an album is nice, but a whole album of that is to me just dull. But I know it's the conventional wisdom that acoustic/organic is always good and electronic produced is always bad which to me is too simplistic.

Lady Gaga says new single 'Applause' 'almost didn't make' new album 'ARTPOP'

Singer also reportedly wrote '70 – 100' songs for new LP'

http://www.nme.com/news/lady-gaga/72061

Lady Gaga has revealed that her new single 'Applause' was nearly left off her forthcoming album 'ARTPOP'.

The singer was forced to unveil the lead track from her new LP ahead of schedule after it was leaked online, causing her to declare a "pop music emergency" and rush release the song. However, in a radio appearance on On Air With Ryan Seacrest, she claimed that the track could easily not have been included on the LP.

She told Seacrest that the track "almost didn't make the album" until she met with Interscope Records chief Jimmy Iovine and played him 40 songs during a meeting. "We played 'Applause' last and Jimmy said to me, 'Well every single record you've played me has been better than the one you played before it, so the last one should be the first single,'" she said.

Discussing the decision making which went into choosing the album's lead single, she added: "It's an incredible process choosing the first single. You just play the music and see who gets drunk and takes their shirt off first."

Meanwhile, producer DJ White Shadow – who worked with Gaga on the record – said that the singer had written a huge mass of material for the LP. "It's a result of her dedication," he said. "We wrote 70-100 songs over the course of two and half years. This time we tried to have as much fun as we possibly could and then brought them to our friends and said, 'What do you think?'"

Earlier this week, Gaga unveiled the trailer for 'ARTPOP'. The 47-second clip shows the singer with her face covered in plastic being roundly jeered while a series of messages are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Seemingly making light of any backlash she might receive for the new LP, they include slogans such as "Lady Gaga is no longer relevant" and "Ever since 'Born This Way', she's a flop". You can watch the clip by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.

She also recently confirmed rumours that she will headline the opening night of this year's iTunes Festival, which takes place at London's Roundhouse venue every night from September 1 to 30, and has promised fans a flurry of new material from 'ARTPOP'. The LP is released on November 11.
