How would you rate Peter Gabriel as a singer? And also, would you consider him blue eyed soul? "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Hmmm.... i think he has a really unique voice for the unique style of music he produces. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I rate him very high. His voice is amazing and unique.
I wouldn't rate him blue eyed soul. Maybe with So in the 80s, but his whole career has a more experimental/European feel to it.

he's no Phil! very forgettable IMO. but that's just on the various singles i've heard, they haven't compelled me to dig thru his solo or Genesis catalogue. as for Phil, In The Air Tonight made me pay attention thereafter

Peter said his big influences starting out were Roger Chapman of Family, Nina Simone, & Otis Redding, but he's developed his own sound and style over the years.
Phil and Peter grew up on the same music, they both incorporated it over the years, but I think Phil had closer ties to jazz than PG did.
