It's not debatable. The world has a one-drop rule when it comes to black people. Doesn't matter what you look like, if you have any black blood running thru your veins, the world considers you black. I don't care what Tiger Woods says. He can make up as many names as he wants, but at the end of the day, he still black.biggrin

Don't know about the world having a one drop rule, Murica certainly seems to though.

People have the right to identify themselves whatever way they like or see fit. That's my opinion.

I don't know how Mariah identifies herself, i don't really care either. None of my business.

I am very aware of how one drop rule is originated, however sadly this isn't exactly limited to black people only. If someone who's half asian and half white calls herself white, most white people aren't gonna be ok with that and remind her um no, you're Asian. Case in point Norah Jones, who isn't acknowledged as a blue eyed soul singer despite her attempt to not proudly acknowledge her Indian side by avoiding yes or no answer when asked if she considered herself partially Indian.

According to the majority of white folks in order to be considered white you'd have to have two white parents. 'Black Person with multi racial background' exists while I've never heard such a thing as 'White Person with multi racial background.'

Mariah has always acknowledged her mixed heritage and been grateful for her opera singer mom's influence but she calls herself black. In fact I think the headlines when Mariah first came on the music scene were "Not another white girl trying to sound soulful". OP you were clearly trolling when he/she put Mariah on the list lol

Anyways I really enjoy Christina's singing voice but I don't really have a favorite among these people mentioned.

I'm well aware of Mariah's background, but I can honestly say when I added her to this list I simply forgot. oops!

I saw Beth Hart live earlier this year. Great voice! Definitely soulful, in a Janis Joplin way.

Also, Amalia is half Filipino. I wouldn't classify her as white. She's amazing though.

Has anyone mentioned Nikka Costa yet?
