After hearing him cover SOS Band, I realize it won't matter if the album is late because the sound is timeless. D'Angelo and ?uestlove jamming is how they made Voodoo. They still sound great together, so I can see why Questlove stays on D's side.

Questlove playing with D live is his early apology for the album being 99.7% done this time. Maybe in 2014 we wil get it all the way up to 99.8% !!

confused

This album is what i call the ''Chinese Democracy'' of r&b lol

CD was the Guns N Roses album that took almost 15 years to make and in that time the remaining members of GNR left the band... dozens and dozens of producers and musicians worked on it and left.

D is getting to that point... it's a bit silly.

And i am nto couting Lauryn cause a 2nd album is NEVER happening with her lol

He should not be writing new material if he truly is 99.8% done. lol I don't even care to hear him live anymore. I mean, it's nice to hear him, he sounds great, but I don't really care for it anymore. I want something new.

This is great news. That SOS Band cover made me smile all day....due to our similar age we seem to have the same taste in music and I absolutely love the SOS Band and his rendition of "Tell Me If You Still Care".

Can´t wait for the album to be released but frankly, even if he needs MORE time, so be it....his music is so timeless that I don´t really care whether he releases it this year or next year as long as the album is good....and I know it will be good if the new songs he played in Sweden last year are any indication.

D´Angelo had to wrestle with his demons in the past ten years and it looks like he won....I´m glad he´s still got his voice and his talent, and I don´t really understand the Axl Rose and Lauryn Hill comparisons here....the only thing they have in common is that all three are very slow when it comes to their next album but they probably all have completely different reasons (and completely different personalities and work ethics).

Despite his problems D´Angelo hasn´t been completely off the radar, he did a few songs and guest appearances here and there, he is incredibly talented and gifted and I´d rather wait a decade and hear an inspired, timeless album than a rushed project with some record company that doesn´t really support him. I trust Alan Leeds´ judgment and he gave a lot of good reasons for the delay, here on the org.

I still believe in D´Angelo! Always have, always will. One of my all time favorite musicians since he first stepped on the scene.

great time. it was packed in there.

I can´t even imagine what Cosmic Slop would sound like with just him on the keyboards and Questlove on the drums.

Did he sing the lyrics or did they just play a brief instrumental version? I´d love to hear that rendition.

I like the interesting setlist...one new song, a few rare covers that you don´t hear everyday, and some of his own classic stuff.Perfect setlist for that kind of setting. I wonder why he didn´t play some of his new songs like he did last year but I guess they wanted to keep it simple and not play the new songs without a full band.

I hate to say man but i think we have to enjoy the 2 we got...

I just don't see the new cd coming out anytime soon cause Quest keeps playing games with everyone with this so and so percantage done crap neutral

I wonder if they are expecting like a ''hit'' album or something? i mean i think it can do well. But his days of getting top 40 hits are over.

He´s actually put on some weight again, though not as much as a few years ago.

He looked very athletic and in top shape last year while he was in Sweden and there were also the pictures in GQ magazine where he also talked a bit about his workouts with his personal trainer.

I´ve always said that all it takes for him is a few weeks in the gym, proper diet and getting his vices in check.

You seem to be VERY pessimistic regarding D´Angelo, right? lol

I couldn´t care less what he looks like as long as the music is tight but I understand that looks are part of the game in showbiz. Imagine Prince being chunky and bald...the ladies probably wouldn´t like that. And of course looks can also be a reflection of what´s going on inside.

Anyway, here are some pictures from a few months ago:

Here´s the GQ article:

http://www.gq.com/enterta...-interview

I understand that a decade long hiatus is not exactly good for your career but hey, Sade (the singer AND the band) take looooong breaks, and nobody seems to mind, and the only one of them who is sort of busy doing other projects seems to be Stuart Mathewman, and D´Angelo has not been as silent as Lauryn Hill, at least he´s appeared on other people´s tracks here and there.

Sometimes personal tragedies and inner demons overshadow our ambitions, but as long as the end result is good, and as long as the artist in question is happy, I don´t care how much time they need.

A dear friend of mine just released his album which was almost finished years ago (in 2007) but bad stuff happened so releasing an album was his last priority, and now that he´s reworked that album it is even better than the version he could´ve released back then, so who knows, maybe it´s a good thing that D´Angelo took some time off.

At least D gave us 2 classics.

I have a hunch that D´s next album is going to be another classic and worth the wait.

You do have a point regarding the decade long wait and the constant teasing with tweets and whatnot but keep in mind that EMI went downhill and this affected not only D´Angelo but also Prince´s Emancipation album back then. Contractual obligations can be pretty messy in such situations, and I´d take Questlove´s words with a grain of salt, too, but Alan Leeds is a pretty trustworthy and honest (and sometimes blunt) gentleman, very much like his younger brother Eric, and the way he explained D´s long hiatus here on the org a few years ago made a lot of sense.

By the way, I didn´t know Questlove was riding D´s dick. I really don´t think so nor do I care.

( And I´m strictly hetero, don´t let those picture I posted make you think otherwise, I´m just a very physical person and very much into health and fitness and just wanted to show you that he´s no longer in bad shape like he was a few years ago.

Like I said, your pessimism is understandable but keep in mind that he´s appeared on a bunch of songs ( Snoop, Dre, Common, plus lots of leaked songs).

Anyway, I´m pretty sure the next album is going to be an instant classic. He could just release a live DVD or CD with some new songs and I´d be happy. His last official live CD ( Live at the Jazz Café London) was a very enjoyable, albeit a tad too short album.

Let´s wait and see....good things come to those who wait.

I wish Maxwell would´ve taken a bit more time after Urban Hang Suite and Embrya...he´s lost that cohesive feel that made his first two albums timeless classics...but I digress..that´s a whole different topic.
