George Michael As A Writer.

Ok so GM has been discuessed here like a million times but i am curious what everyone think's of his writting talents?

You know i think he is actually one of the best writers in pop in the 80s and 90s. He was able to write some very catchy songs along with very personal songs that managed to not sound forced.

It's hard for an artist to write about sex, love, heartbreak, death, drug addiction, bad days, being caught, war, disease, dancing in clubs etc. Without eventually sounding silly or like they wrote it in 5 minutes.

The fact the same guy who wrote Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Young Guns and Club Tropicana also wrote Jesus To A Child, Mothers Pride & Hand To Mouth.

I don't even think Dylan could go from incredibly poppy cheesy to personal lol so that is really impressive craft in that stance.

Just think if every pop star would do that it would push them to the limits of their creativity and hell you could get Flo Rida singing about problems in Asia lol

What say of the org flock?

yes, he's a very gifted writer. I can't think of any filler on his albums.

I think he's a very, very sensitive man. Almost a bit dramatic, but it may be the reason he can write these songs.

Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 is brilliant album, especially in terms of the writing but also his vocal performances. I've only listened to his other material a little but wasn't as impressed. What would you recommend?

One of the most talented artists period in my opinion. Even when he is cheesy it's still well written and sung perfectly.

He's a gifted songwriter and did great pop songs, it's not my taste at all but I can say that the guy has some really great melodies in his songs as well. The ability of writing good songs with strong melodies is what makes him a really good artist to me.

Older is my 2nd favorite! It's his darkest and most personal album.

If he had written only this song, he'd still be a great writer.

I'd have to vote for Older, as well. Great from beginning to end, imo.

I do! As far as I'm concerned, it's:

1. Listen Without Prejudice

2. Faith

3. Older

4. Patience

The first 2 are both classics, Older is very good, and Patience is good, but nowhere near his other solo work.

only heard Faith in its entirety. i've wanted to digest the rest of his material as i expect/suspet it'd be good, but i don't respect him and i think it'll affect how i take in his music

Oh we do!!! trust me Faith is very loved. I think that a lot of orgers including myself just happen to favorite Listen & Older over Faith smile

Honestly Faith is a PERFECT pop/rock album... in fact one of the most perfect albums you can find by a so called pop star.

Ranging from funky singles like I Want Your Sex & Monkey, to ballads like One More Try & the jazzy Kissing A Fool(Seriously how often does a jazzy song go in the top 5? GM did it twice!)

And of course my favorite on the album is Hand To Mouth his first big social/political song that was a show of thing's to come in the next albums.

And the it is only 9 tracks! 6 werre hits... i think if he released any of the remaining 3 they would have been a hit as well.

You mean "writer" not "writter". That has been bugging me all day. Please for the love of God, correct your title, lol.

OLDER is my favorite. FAITH would be second and LISTEN . . . third.

This performance is really great! this also has his mother sitting in the audience and he dedicates the show to her. She passed away from cancer 4 months later sad
