I thought about this for a thread topic.. I'm glad you made it. For me, I think the 80s music was so good because it took a tad of what was good from 50s, 60s and 70s music and combined it into something magical. There were a lot of great writers and producers that grew up on Chuck Berry, Elvis, Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix, etc. and they really created great music.

These couple of cuts are the reason why I'm partial to 80s' music, and esp the 81-84 period.
I could be here aaaaall day, but I think I made my point.

Hell, because it was funky, that's why it was so good. And the further you get away from funky, you need to sit your ass down and just not make music period. Andy is a four letter word.

My favorite thing about 80s music is that it is a mix of more organic "real" music with the electronic synths and drum machines. Nowadays music in general seems TOO processed and if it isn't then it's TOO raw. I'd say that the 80s was a natural evolution from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, then we got lost somewhere around the 90s
The 80s were the last good decade for Pop music in my opinion. There was a lot of diversity and although it wasn't the best decade for Rock music in the traditional sense, there was a lot of New Wave artists and Rock influenced artists making great music.

Because up to then, musicians built upon what those before them had done.
But then rap came along and destroyed all that (it's not music and takes no talent whatsoever to perform), and then Nirvana came along and ruined rock and roll.
Since the 90's, musicians haven't had any foundation in musical theory. Today, you've got morons that think listening to Dr. Dre or Pearl Jam or anyone else from the 90's forward teaches them "music" or "musical theory".
That's the answer to your question.
