Because Prince is a REAL artist lol He CREATES, he WRITES, he PRODUCES, he INNOVATES, He played all those instruments in his songs, he STRIVES to take risk artistically and musically all those things Beyonce isnt and does not do which would make it easier for her to just shoot out an album year because she has a whole team that does all of this for her and she has little to no creative input.

Thats the difference lol

People say Beyonce works hard psshhh it took alot more work for an artist like Prince who virtually does everything himself and was still able to release NEW material yearly.

Thats someone who works hard on their craft and tries to perfect it.

Prince wasnt out there campaigning and doing over the top promotion for those albums. When he became inspired, he recorded and put it out.

I dont think Beyonce cares about money (cause she has enough of it) but she loves being the center of attention and feeling more important than what she is.

She's the best pop singer we've got. Better than the over rated tina turner ever was.

She's the best dancer since Michael Jackson. Who cares where she gets the moves? You can be inspired by bob fosse or a kid on the street. Why are we holding her to a higher standard than anyone else?

For the past 10 years her music's been more innovative than Prince's. Countdown, Single Ladies, and Who Runs the Wold (Squirrels) leap to mind. It's just a fact.

I think all the irrational hatred for the lady (that she's: greedy, illuminati, should rest, is desperate for attention, thinks she's better than she is) is born from jealousy.

She made Janet Jackson's career totally redundant. Anything you can do I can do better.

I think it's a good choice for the super bowl. And I'll bet anything she doesn't lip synch, like robotic asexual michael jackson did.

I am a huge fan of Bey but stop flaming. This is how the irrational hatred for Bey happens because people who aren't fans of Bey will go the other extreme to combat posts like this. As I said, I am a huge fan of her and music. Love her vocal-centric, rhythmic approach to music and feel she is a great performer but don't do the most.

I don't ever think I've watched a full half-time show..

Has Beyonce ever done a Super Bowl half-time show before?

No, but she's done the National Anthem in Houston, 2004. Ironically when Justin and Janet had that Wardrobe Misfunction happen.

She has a voice and can move but musically she's not my thing. But oh well, to each his own. But stealing material (yes yes, STEALING, not "inspired by") is , firstly, a total embarassement and disgrace, secondly; it's a disservice to the bunch of talented choreographers around who might really do something creative for her.

My guess would be that she copy-pastes stuff to be able to claim she came up with it herself and add to the aura of the multi-talented genius. But one person can't do all, and sometimes you need to loosen control and give other creative people the room to make you shine.

[Edited 10/17/12 12:33pm]

Where do you think she gets her choreography from? She has a bunch of choreograpers(like every entertainer) and a lot of things that they[entertainers] does is part of the dance community anyway. Bey don't do everything by herself. No one with as big a production as she does, does.

All those things would be fine if she just wasn't one thing....shit hop. That makes her absolute trash that doesn't even deserve a recording contract. evillol

I know we have big fans of other artists here, ( I am one of them ex. MJ) but I think these moderators need to banned these over the top trolls of other artists who obviously come just to flame about their favorite artist.

I love Michael Jackson but I am objective. These Beyonce stans insisting she is better than MJ, Prince, Janet Jackson and Tina Turner are really irrational, quite disrespectful and clearly not objective because any SANE PERSON will say that is absurd but I am trying to figure out why they woule waste time joining a Prince site when they clearly are not into Prince hmmm

I think some banns seriously needs to be handed out

I exactly am friends with some Beyonce fans believe it or not (while I think she is overrated) some exactly know she is overrated but still like her anyway and vice versa but they would NEVER say any of the things some of the Beyonce stans said in this thread.

This further supports why Beyonce is overrated pretty much anytime someone insist she is more innovative than MJ, Prince, Tina, and Janet eek

i'm not sure that saying people who disagree with you are insane, and need to be banned, is totally objective.

I don't think she's better than MJ, but I think she's the best dancer since MJ. Who else would be? Britney? Usher?

I don't think she's better than Control, or Rhythm Nation, but I do think she's doing what Janet did back in the day, and Janet is doing Weight Watchers commercials. (which is totally cool)

I do think she's got it over Tina Turner. I never thought Tina was the best singer. More of a yeller. I think she takes herself too seriously, and she's not a lot of fun to listen to. I take it back, "Private Dancer", her portrait of life in a whorehouse, is very fun to listen to, but maybe not in the way she intended.

Who else? Oh, Prince! Ya, he's the best of the lot, but the past __ years or so, I'm not sure how innovative I'd consider him. Maybe "Black Sweat"? I don't know. "Laveaux"? Errrrm...But ya, Prince back in the day is pretty much the best that ever was.

I think the halftime shows are more for the wives, girlfriends, and gay men who are bored out of their minds during the game. Since people have these Superbowl parties which probably started out as parties with a bunch of men but you know how a lot of wives and girlfriends are, they just can't let a man have an activity to himself without having them parked up under his ass spending "together" time.

Over the years, it has become the "in" thing to do to go to these parties whether you like football or not. I know one year, I was talked into (well begged into) going to a Superbowl party by someone that didn't even like football but wanted to go and didn't want to feel alone while he was there. It was the most rediculous thing I had ever seen. Women trying to talk to each other while the game is going on and men hollering at them and telling them to shut up so they can concentrate on the game. And I don't blame the men either, if those women don't like football, they shouldn't be there. And then the women were sitting there waiting for the commercials since they make a big deal out of the commercials during the game and spend a lot of money making them. You gotta be pretty damn desperate for some entertainment if you're waiting to see a commercial of all things. lol Every year when the Superbowl comes on, I usually watch a DVD. The only year when I even watched one second of the Superbowl was when Prince performed and I simply didn't turn it on until it was time for him to perform, recorded the performance, and watched it again immediately afterwards a few times. After that, I threw in a DVD. lol

Don't stereotype. I'm a woman and I love football. I know lots of women who are into football too. The NFL is very universal. I would say far more women like football than other sports like basketball, baseball and hockey. In fact, I love football so much I prefer to watch it by myself so I can focus on the game, and not with a lot of screaming people.

I will watch the halftime if it's an artist I like. But otherwise, as Soul Alive said I will go do something else.

I like Beyonce and I hope she is ready. She has lot to compete with after Madonna. I think people underrate Madonna and always think she's going to mess up somehow but she doesn't but instead outdoes herself. Beyonce is overrated by some people, and everyone is saying she will be great. Hope she doesn't believe the hype and get overconfident and not prepare. Also these things go in cycles. Since Madonna was praised by the media a lot, if not on this forum, they will tend to turn the other way this year and say Beyonce is bad even if she isn't.

No you personally insulted Michael Jackson and you trashed Janet. The other opinions you are free to have to but your support is not credible and you made your arguements subjectively...NONE of what your arguements were based on objective facts because objectively MJ, Janet, Tina, Prince are far more influential than Beyonce. In order to be influential you have to have done something groundbreaking or iconic which Beyonce has yet to musically or performance wise which she seems to copy from her past influences or gets from other places.

Mintchip said:

I don't think she's better than MJ, but I think she's the best dancer since MJ. Who else would be? Britney? Usher?

I dont like Brittany but Brittany in her prime is definitly alot better than Beyonce, Hell USHER... Did you forget about CHRIS BROWN eek , Not a fan but he is a talented dancer and DEFINITLY better than Beyonce in that department. What Beyonce does isnt really dancing and she doesnt even do complex intricate dancing to even insist that she is the best dancer since MJ who did alot of complicated foot movements and overall choregraphy.

The best way to judge how good technical dancer is for them to dance alone on stage or by themselves, no gimmicks, no rehearsal, no back up dancers, just straight dancing... Beyonce has never done that. She has to have back dancers and alot of the time they outshine her.

Brittany did alot more intricate choregraphy than Beyonce

To be honest, I think Ciara is the best female dancer that is a singer of this generation

The BEST female dancer of ALL TIME that is a pop singer is Janet Jackson.... no question about it.

Mintchip said:

That doesnt even make sense lol How she is not going to be better than JUST two albums? The Janet album and Velvet Rope are some of her most influential works to date as well.

This is not about what Janet is currently doing.

Janet has NOTHING to prove. biggrin

Despite her popularity, Beyonce still has alot to prove as far as iconic status goes. She has yet to make a classic or iconic album like Control or Rhythm Nation so its ridiculous to say she is doing what Janet did because she has yet to do what Janet did lol

This is why I dont take you seriously neutral Because Tina Turner is a legend for many other things not just specifically because of her singing. Her and Ike Turner influenced the fusion of blues/soul and made it quite popular during a period where that wasnt going on and she exactly wrote some of those songs herself. Tina Turner was much more than just an entertainer. She was an artist. And she doesnt scream and her raspy voice and singing style is why she is legendary as well. It sounds like you have to listen to some more Tina Turner before you go out your way making ridiculous arguements razz

You of all people should not be calling ANYBODY a screamer when that is all Beyonce does as well as over sing. Oh and Beyonce takes herself WAY to seriously neutral

Lastly, its clear you dont listen to enough Prince because once again he is legend and has nothing to prove. He is innovative and like MJ and Tina has influenced 2 decades worth of artists that still try to copy them today. You are trying to compare Legends/Icons to someone that still has ALOT to prove if they want to reach that especially MUSICALLY/INNOVATION/CREATIVITY/TAKING RISKS/ARTISTICALLY:-P

I am going to leave now because I know this is going to turn into a nasty back and forth and the shit seriously is not worth it. And I dont take anybody seriously who will consider a mediocre artist better than a legend. Carry On...

ALL YOU TROLLS SHOULD BE BANNED.

We're not gonna get nasty. It's just an internet forum wink

1.) I do think the MJ superbowl show was asexual and robotic. I mean, that was his thing then, wasn't it? I thought he was going for that. Cold and precise. He looked like an alien that crash landed. And i really think he lip synched. Maybe the whole thing?

2.) I think Bey totally leaves Janet in the cold. There's another forum here about Janet's comeback, and everyone says she should make Acapulcan jazz albums, or something. I agree, whatever makes her happy. But the dance pop / r&b music of her youth, I just think Bey's doing it better. I think the same thing about Madonna, actually. I wish these dance pop singers could find a better way to age, and do new things.

3. You're right, none of these people have to prove themselves.

4.) I don't think Tina invented any new styles of music, but maybe you're right, she could have popularized something. She didn't write the music. Maybe Nutbush City...but otherwise, it was all Ike and covers.

I think she's a legend because she made her comeback into a sort of myth. Away from Ike, on your own, and what's love got to do with it? It's an amazing story.

I also think there's more charm, wamth, and humor in the first line of Irreplaceable than there is in all Tina's music. She's just not that fun to listen to, I guess. It's Gonna Work Out Fine is fun, but Ike's got all the jokes. Nutbush is fun, but mostly the synthesizers.

5.) I realize it's an unconventional point of view, but I like those. I don't think it makes me a troll, or a flamer (ha). I don't think Sgt. Pepper's is the best album ever, I'd take Aretha and Etta over Tina anyday, and I think Bey's the best pop star we've got these days.

Oh TRUST me I know that wink but I am bit tired of going back and forth with over the top stans and for the record its nothing wrong with you liking Beyonce but you did come in here irrationally with your opinion insisting that anybody that had a constructive criticism on Beyonce is a hater which I think is immature because everyone is not going to have the same opinion.

I honestly dont think there is anything wrong with her doing the super bowl although for me she doesnt do much for me entertainment wise so I wont be looking at it. I just insisted that she probably should have waited a little longer to build up anticipation because it would have been alot more aniticipated instead of...."Oh well its Beyonce... again like always" this was kind of expected and she is overexposed so its a possibility some people might not be as excited or even interested.

Mintchip said:

1.) I do think the MJ superbowl show was asexual and robotic.

What does that have to do with the performance? I disagree with the performance being robotic. I dont think that performance was HIS best but in MY opinion it is the best half time show, I was very entertained. Looking at Michael NEVER gets old, his a great entertainer he should be, his the GREATEST. wink

Mintchip said:

1.) I thought he was going for that. Cold and precise. He looked like an alien that crash landed. And i really think he lip synched. Maybe the whole thing?

Once again I dont see what his appearance has to do with the PERFORMANCE QUALITY. And I think its a rather childish arguement and petty.

I do not think the performance was cold. And some of Heal the world was not mimed although obviously most of it was but he was DANCING and being energetic on stage so... thats a given he was in his 30s and by that stage his voice was going through some problems which is why he started miming.(i.e. lupus)

If you dont like it thats cool... but there are ALOT that do lol and it is even considered the best half time by ALOT of people NOT JUST MJ FANS razz

Mintchip said:

2.) I think Bey totally leaves Janet in the cold.

I am still trying to understand your arguement with comparing Beyonce to Janet? Are you comparing their careers or their careers currently?

Its rather ridiculous to compare an artist that has peaked and well past her prime. Janet is not a relevant pop singer anymore but that doesnt change that she is still an Icon or what she accomplished. I think you are being very biased toward Beyonce in that you are focusing on the CURRENT pop scene. WE GET Beyonce is a big pop star now but that doesnt takes nothing away from Janet or past legends especially when Beyonce has ALOT more to prove herself and the funny thing is she has peaked as well in terms of popularity.

Mintchip said:

. There's another forum here about Janet's comeback, and everyone says she should make Acapulcan jazz albums, or something. I agree, whatever makes her happy. I wish these dance pop singers could find a better way to age, and do new things.

I am confused at what you are arguing. Are you suggesting that Beyonce has had a better pop dance music career than Janet or that currently Beyonce is better than Janet and Madonna?

I just think its absurd to even compare them lol Beyonce is no where on that level and if she wants to be she needs to be more creative, be more artistic, step out of the box with her music.

Its naturally going to be harder for artists in their 50s late 40s to compete with 20 and 30 years olds regardless of the quality of music so I dont understand what you are saying?

If you want to do a comparision what you really should be comparing is people on HER CALIBER as in HER PEERS like Rihanna, Katy Perry, Usher, Justin etc... Beyonce is not a peer to Madonna or Janet... its kinda insulting that you are suggesting that she could even compete with them, regardless of how popular she is... she cant because she hasnt done anything significant or groundbreaking. Her music is really no better than theres either, she makes the same tired pop crap. So in my eyes she is not worthy to even be compared to real icons and legends

Beyonce has not done anything signifcant to music or made a profound impact to compare her to ANY of the legends you are comparing her to, from an objective point.

Mintchip said:

4.) I don't think Tina invented any new styles of music, but maybe you're right, she could have popularized something. She didn't write the music. Maybe Nutbush City...but otherwise, it was all Ike and covers.

I didnt say she invented anything but her an Ike did pioneer a fusion genre that was kinda considered taboo for the time for a black duo and made it popular. Tina Turner has had alot more input in her music than Beyonce thats for sure. And she didnt mostly do covers and Tina does deserve some created for some of her artistic INPUT although Ike was the primary musician.

Mintchip said:

I think she's a legend because she made her comeback into a sort of myth. Away from Ike, on your own, and what's love got to do with it? It's an amazing story.

That is not true. Majority of her iconic material was exactly with Ike so that isnt true at all but it was a great break away as a solo performer but she was already an Icon/legend before that.

Mintchip said:

I also think there's more charm, wamth, and humor in the first line of Irreplaceable than there is in all Tina's music. She's just not that fun to listen to, I guess. It's Gonna Work Out Fine is fun, but Ike's got all the jokes. Nutbush is fun, but mostly the synthesizers.

Do you know that neyo wrote that song not Beyonce? Not that it matters just saying. Also, Beyonce doesnt really convey emotion or connects with audiences when she sings. She mostly tries to show out and she fails by oversinging everytime. I think in being a good singer it is important to show meaning in what your singing which pop singers like Michael Jackson and (not really pop) Tina Turner were experts at doing.

There are ALOT more songs in her catalogues besides the songs you keep bringing up as examples. Why not listening to more of her material before making judgements over them.

Beyonces music very bland and boring.

Mintchip said:

5.) I realize it's an unconventional point of view, but I like those. I don't think it makes me a troll, or a flamer (ha). I don't think Sgt. Pepper's is the best album ever, I'd take Aretha and Etta over Tina anyday, and I think Bey's the best pop star we've got these days.

There are some people that feel the way you do and that is okay but my thing is just be objective and not biased because it comes off as more rational and open minded.

And how you can into the thread insulting everyone was troll like as well as your arguements that came off really stannish and over zealous.

Pop music is really garbage today but I still feel like we shouldnt settle for the best of the garbage because its all garbage lol , Beyonce can sing and has some stage presence, Ill give her that but B does nothing for me and I dont think she is the best that is out now because their are much better OVERALL artists and entertainers Monae, Mint, D angelo... but hey thats my opinion.

Read carefully. The word "those" was in there.

Only on Prince.org do we get to see wonderful posts such as this. Thanks for making my day......

That's right. This website has been known to attract the coolest of the cool with the best of taste....well, it used to anyway.

All those things would be fine if she just wasn't one thing....shit hop. That makes her absolute trash that doesn't even deserve a recording contract. evillol

And yet, Prince choose Beyonce to perform with him.

Just saying. lol

"Laveaux"? Errrrm...But ya, Prince back in the day is pretty much the best that ever was.

i really wouldnt have a problem with your opinions if you didnt imply that beyonce's music is innovative and had the nerve to use single ladies and that run this world crap as examples, those may be 2 of the worse songs in her really mediocre catalog of pop songs. i think she's a good performer but her music after dangerously in love sucks to me. she gets away with making bad music because she's in the era of bad music, she dont really have peers of her own which is why she's always compared to janet, madonna and others who were before her time. far as the superbowl i think shes a better choice over the last few snoozefests, my only concern is i know her husband is gonna tag along.

Haha! I LOVE those songs. Great pop songs that don't sound like anything else I've ever heard. And the lyrics are funny!

I should also say, while I'm passing out complements, that the hand held camera video of 1+1 was the most innovative music video since...well, do they even make videos anymore?

What else can I give her props for? The dancing in the Single Ladies was INSANE. When it dropped, I had friends wrapping up dates like this:

"Ok, cool, it was nice seeing you. Let's hang out again. I'll call you. Oh by the way, have you seen that new Beyonce video?"

And the video of her singing Halo in Australia with the little girl who's sick...

More like Beyonce, please.

This is probably what your problem is. Maybe if you BROADEN your music library and entertainment you will find that what Beyonce is doing has already been done before and there are artists that are alot better than her.

You sound pretty biased and irrational... Why bother to even come here if you dont like Prince?

eek

I don't think I have a problem. I'm just enthusiastic.

Prince is either my favorite, or second favorite recording artist. I might like Dylan more, depending on the month. If I made a list it'd go like this:

The men are all impossibly creative, self sufficient, and durable:

Dylan, Prince, George Clinton, The Stones, Michael J, and Leonard Cohen

(michael may not have been self sufficient, and he certainly wasn't durable, but he was AMAZING)

and the girls...I guess the girls just don't give a shit:

Nina Simone, Janis Joplin, Madonna, Lucinda Williams.

biggrin

I don't care which forum I go to, the name 'Beyonce' always brings out the worse in people.

It's so tired. Much like Beyonce's weave.
