I've noticed people ignore the pre-Mike Jackson halftime shows, which are at least 25 years worth.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Terrible choice. sad

I wanted some rock this time.

Madonna just did the damn show last year lol Why would they pick two pop acts in a row like that?

I thought Madonna was amazing, but Beyonce is nothing like Madonna. Madonna is more dance while Beyonce is more R&B influenced. Given that a large amount of the NFL players are African American and there a big African American audience for the game, I think it's great to have an African American performer.

And it's not like Beyonce is a new performer. She does have plenty of older hits that a general even slightly older audience knows.

I disagree that Madonna didn't set the bar high. Her performance was legendary and acclaimed pretty much everywhere except on this forum. Beyonce is going to have to work hard to surpass Madonna in a lot of people's eyes.

As far as rock, who would they get that would be really worth hearing? I l like rock, but more interesting alternative kinds. They would never get someone like that, it would be someone boring like Van Halen, Bon Jovi, or Nickelback.

Well in all honesty, I just thought Madonnas performance was okay, I didnt even watch it when it aired I watched it on youtube lol but want made it memorable I guess was the special effects they did as far as lightening and staging which made it more entertaining but its personally not one of the best shows in my eyes.

To be honest, I am not really anticipating anything surprising from Beyonce, she for the most part does the same thing. Also, Beyonce isnt really a R&B artist, she is a pop.dance artist as well who has dabbled in some R&B like Madonna. I dont think its really fair to compare her to Madonna because Madonna is an Icon has some "classics" under her belt that she did during the show. Beyonce doesnt have that and isnt an Icon although she is a popular act... so she is going to have to try to do something creative or add someone who does creative things on the bill like Missy Elliott somebody like that but then again when has Beyonce ever done something creative? Its the same old stuff razz

Well they could choose from some older rock band acts. To me its not really about the race of the performer because Nikki and MIA performed last year and Nikki is slightly more popular in the music department than Beyonce. I think they could have did a rock band this year to engage a different demographic.

I guess I'm kind of indifferent now when it comes to Mrs. Carter. Maybe I've been slowly forced to accept the fact that she's a machine that has no intention of stopping anytime soon. I'm not mad at her, just tired of her.

I don't think I ever had a chance to miss her really. Maybe she's the prototype for the Rihanna's, Katy Perry's of the world today. Fuck breaks for rest, life experiences, artistic growth, etc. Get money!

i never understood why it was ok for Prince to do this - constant supply of music, no rest - but not Beyonce.

Lots of artists used to release an album a year. Beatles, Stones, Stevie, Dylan.

Why do you think it's just about the money w/ her?

Because Prince is a REAL artist lol He CREATES, he WRITES, he PRODUCES, he INNOVATES, He played all those instruments in his songs, he STRIVES to take risk artistically and musically all those things Beyonce isnt and does not do which would make it easier for her to just shoot out an album year because she has a whole team that does all of this for her and she has little to no creative input.

Thats the difference lol

People say Beyonce works hard psshhh it took alot more work for an artist like Prince who virtually does everything himself and was still able to release NEW material yearly.

Thats someone who works hard on their craft and tries to perfect it.

Prince wasnt out there campaigning and doing over the top promotion for those albums. When he became inspired, he recorded and put it out.

I dont think Beyonce cares about money (cause she has enough of it) but she loves being the center of attention and feeling more important than what she is.

Very good choice this time nod I don't love all of Beyonce's songs, but she's a great performer and can do it LIVE. Black Eyed Peas sucked as expected and the only older act in the last several years who was any good was Prince. Madonna sucked big time last year despite all the hype (no surprise) and Paul McCartney was boring as hell. Beyonce will do well.

I think she finally did about a year ago--along with her tell-all book titled Starting Over which coincided with the 2-year anniversary of her brother's death neutral

I'm not into halftime performances at the Super Bowl because i'm usually

so amped up for the game. Even though i'm not a fan of her music i guess

she will do because i think the Super Bowl has worn out the classic rock/pop

artitst thing the past few years. It's time for something different.

O my Lord, that stings. So truthful, though. She's stolen dance moves from everyone except Ginger Rogers.
