Is it time for Janet Jackson to come back

Anyone else missing Ms. Jackson doing what she does best?

It's been 4 long years since 2008's Discipline. During that time, she's kept us occupied with her greatest hits package "Number Ones", a few new songs ("Make Me" and "Nothing") that didn't really tread new ground or muster significant chart action, a few unnecessary supporting roles in Tyler Perry movies, last year's Number Ones Tour, and those hideous Weight Watchers commercials.

So yeah, she hasn't exactly been sitting idle, however, she's definitely left a big enough void in 2012 for most of us to wonder what her next move is going to be (musically speaking of course.)

I would love to see her return to her former chart glory in the USA with a new album and hit single, however, without an American Idol/X Factor/The Voice like vehicle to promote her (a la J. Lo, Mariah, Britney, Christina) I think there's a strong risk of another commericial disappointment.

Yes, she's cornering the same age Tina Turner when Private Dancer was released, however, that was a different time and Turner had the right image and material to make a comeback with. I'm hoping Janet can pull a rabbit out of a hat. If any of the divas deserve it right now, it's her.

The fallout between Janet and her niece Paris that was caught on video may have ruin all chances in hell of a music career comeback.

And even before then, Michael's death may have already taken whatever little amount of interest in music Janet has left.

The irony in all of THIS^ is that it would now take Paris and (maybe) her brother Prince Michael to keep the Jackson's name in the industry for the time being.

Why would that fallout with Paris hurt Janet's music career?

A lot of people don't even know stuff like this, not eveybody reads the tabloids lol

She just needs to focus on the music, her latest albums weren't very strong. But maybe she doesn't want to any more.

She is long overdue a comeback, Id like her to have another hit album.

the time between records maybe a good thing, but Im curious how they bring her back (a killer song!)

because her last album was great, its not an issue with material, its some other PR or public perception thing?

Aint nobody thinking about that bullshit lol. I just want to hear her sweet harmonies over some jimmy jam and terry lewis melodies and finally see her in concert one of these days.

Not really interested in hearing Janet Jackson attempting to do the same type of trance music influenced pop / R&B / whatever-that-shit-is-supposed-to-be that just about every maintream pop artist is doing these days.

Well Jimmy&Terry said they got songs ready for Janet...I guess at the moment she's the one who's not really interested in going back to the studio.

Janet always seemed like someone who was never fussed with fame or would 'die without her music career.

I mean I have never heard an artist say "I was forced into this, I grew to love it"

so I don't see her wasting years, money, ect to re launch her 'mainstream success if the public don't bite

she like 'f**k dat Im doing other things'

Also if you look at her last few albums they were on par with the rest of the market, she doesn't get that Rihanna airplay, but that is to be expected after time.

its all marketing, PR , if they can that down then she can hit.

look at Toni Braxton last single 'I heart you' was an amazing song, she looks hot for any age. and yet the song didn't do so well

you can have a great product but the business side needs to be set up right also.

Toni, Janet, Madonna ect can move albums still, its just mainstream airplay thats fallen off. which is usually dictated by youth audience anyway

All Janet needs to do is put out an album... period.

It has nothing to do with mainstream PR. There are plenty of artists that are not mainstream and still have success. At this point, she should just cater to her fans and write the music SHE wants and not what others feel is going to garner a hit.

She is an Icon and has NOTHING to prove thats why she probably doesnt care about putting out an album and quite frankly I dont blame her.

She isnt comebacking... she is simplying resuming to making music.

An example of a comeback is what D angelo did.

I would like to hear new music, but she is not going to do well or be as good as before since she is not into music like before and it's on record. I really think she should focus on movies and acting, and contribute songs to that time to time. Some of her songs were in my head last night like got till it's gone, 70's love groove.

And please for the love of jehovah, no more nutrisystem! Hang it up and give it to your big sis J!

Although I agree with you that she really doesn't have anything to prove at this point in her life. Her legacy is already intact. I disagree that D'Angelo is a good example of a comeback.

All D has done so far is do a few tour dates overseas and fewer here in the States. I mean, personally to come back and do tours and still have a crowd eating out of the palm of your hand is great. I think its a good return for someone who has been a musical hermit for over a decade but he still needs to release that album. He got his feet wet again with that European tour and those dates opening up for Mary but we still need an album release from Mr. Archer.

You do have point. lol

I used him as an example because like you said he hasnt toured as well as done anything musically for over a decade. On his tours he has been promoting new music but I guess your right ...to have a complete comeback you have to have a real new album.

I do look forward to an album that's free of label politics and pressure, free of boyfriend influence, free from fear of not being accepted, etc. Just do you ma! Whatever's in your heart. Fuck radio, clubs, youtube sensations, etc. Draw from your own well of life experiences and come with something honest and funky. I believe because of her self esteem issues in the past she relied on others a little too much. Her natural instincts have served her well for the majority of her musical career. Trust that.

Honestly, I don't think Janet can make a real comeback. I think she could release an album and have some mild success with it, but she will never regain what she had.

She doesn't have the pipes do record anything different or interesting. It's too bad she doesn't have a better voice as I would love to see her do some jazz, especially now that she's getting older. I really don't want to see her do pop songs and the same old tired dance moves.

IMO - she should do more acting. Not crap movies either, but real acting. She would be good.

I agree that jazz would be good, but she was complaining that la reid wanted her to do that, yet during velvet rope she wanted to do a brazillian jazz album. I say she go the jody watley route...

more movies would be great, i wonder what she would have done on snl if she didn't cancel it for the discipline era

I wonder what she would do if appearing on how i met your mother, maybe she would put barney in his place I like the office setting role she did in for coloured girls, kind of like vanessa williams in ugly better, janet can do something like that

She has alot of potential to be a Oscar serious actress. I think if she sharpened that a little more with classes or just get more experience with different roles besides Tyler Perry movies and small roles she could be taken more seriously as an actress in that respect. Not saying she isnt but not on a Oscar level.

I still think she can make music but she shouldnt gear her music toward the POP market. She should try to be more creative and artistic. Now would be a good time to hook back with Jimmy or Terry or even producers/musicians that do other genres like Jazz, neo soul, rock etc.

I think you're giving that little girl a little too much credit Tony. You're essentially saying that her aunt can't have a musical career until Paris or Prince Michael says so. Like Janet will need Paris to go to Twitter and declare Auntie Jan is cool again. Telling America and the world that it's okay to like her again.

What about the quality of the music? People tend to be quite forgiving and forgetful when it comes to the arts. Especially these days.

You lost me on the Michael angle.....Please elaborate.
