Anyone think that Seal's music is underrated

Anyone think that Seal's music is underrated . He came around in the early 90's but his music has never gotten enough credit for it's versatility his raw vocal abilites. I know that when people think of Seal they often think of "Kiss From A Rose" a great song indeed. I was listening to Seal's debut album...the lyrics, music and arragement was brillant.

I forgot Seal did indeed write his own stuff. He is a very passionate writer cool and the production on his first 3 albums by Trevor Horn is great to. I never listened much to his 00's work...

His 90's stuff was good but there was much better stuff out there during his height.

I adore his first two albums. Especially the 2nd one!

Brilliant songwriting and production. Unique voice.

Haven't really taken notice of the albums after that as I got more into funk at that stage, but I will someday.

Some faves:

1st Album

Whirlpool

Wild

2nd Album

Prayer For The Dying

Dreaming In Metaphors

Fast Changes

People Asking Why

Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

His first albums were pretty amazing, he just got so terrible boring. There is no excitement in his music. He could do a lot with his voice, I liked him 10 times better when he did the vocals on that Adamski track than all that boring stuff of his last albums.

The last track I like was the Thin white duke remix of Amazing, but that was it.

So no, not underrated, he could do much better.

No but I do think "Kiss From A Rose" is truly amazing. He's a 3-hit wonder though, unfortunately or not, that depends on your perception.

i think he should have had more chart success from the first two albums. they were FULL of great songs. could've gone 5-6 singles deep each. then ppl (mainstream ppl who would underrated him) would know him for more than Crazy and Kiss from a Rose. I remember his 2nd cd was out for months before Rose blew up thanks to the Batman soundtrack. his subsequent albums were uneven and after those two beasty albums, i was shocked and disappointed

I'm a big fan of Seal's and I don't think he's underrated. He has a great voice and has been given props for that and he had good success in the 90's and early 2000's. His last couple of releases haven't been original work, but his interpretation of the songs is amazing. I think he's gotten the recognition he deserves. It would be nice if he released something with original songs on it though.

I think he's amazing... almost like a Peter Gabriel voice combined with the sophisticated, adult Pop and aristocratic vibe of Sting musically. Great lyrics full of metaphors and very cool, contemporary 90's sounds on those first couple of records... Lush, brilliant production which is a joy to listen to through headphones.

Underrated?? I dunno... He had his success. Of course, anybody who has that vocal, musical and songwriting talent ought to be huge and iconic (in my mind), but it hardly ever works out that way.

I like Seal, good songs and seems like a goodguy. I don't know if Heidi thinks so about now, but relationships tend to sour for different reasons. I was trying to ask in a post how the connection with Prince came about, and I wonder if they have recorded anything together? I know Wendy & Lisa have recorded with him, I think it would be cool to hear them do something together.
