If this happens and I truly don't think it will BUT I think that Aretha would come off as a nothing more than a cold bitch. Shes a great singer but shes kinda seems hateful.

I'd bet a helluva lot more peeps know Aretha than they do Kathie Lee's "Suzy Creamcheese" ass.

Never could stand that heffa!

Same here. She has a nasty habit of being condescending to guests...hell, make that condescending to anyone within earshot of her nagging voice. Whether Aretha decides to take on this cookie cutter show or not, I'm just happy someone finally checked Mrs. "Carnivial's Got The Fun" Gifford. It's about time. coffee

Every panel needs a stank judge.

LOL Could you imagine if Aretha & Diana were both on the panel? I think I'd have to fly to Los Angeles to witness a couple of episodes in person.

...or from a Public relations point of view- it's the fact that she made those kinda disparaging comments on a national television show that reaches millions of viewers between the ages of 25-54.

That's just not good business for Aretha when she's clearly making a bid to become a tv judge on Idol. In my view, it's simply a matter of PR rebuttal against a woman who sometimes speaks off the cuff and is so unaware that she has no clue how condescending she can come off to people, and does more harm than good considering the tv platform she is apart of.

I've seen Kathy Lee talk down to many a young musician on her show, and when she gets to reading her cue cards about noteworthy musical comparisons to people that came before them, she's always smugly saying " oh, do you even know who those people are, dear?", and these are to actual MUSICIANS----as if this heffa is the last living authority on musical influences disbelief . You just kinda want to say "Trick, that child has been studying classical piano since she was 4 and grew up in the church choir: you likely do not need to educate him/her at this level in their musical developement"....actually, when she does that I kinda want to punch her in the face boxed

I know Aretha's known to have a very stringent, occasionally cantankerous personality, but I see it a result of theculture and the era she comes from more than anything else- where you just don't come out of pocket talking about other people's business aspirations. I say good on Aretha for checking Ms. Carnival Cruise Lines, because for someone who claims she's so old skool and knowlegable about music and the industry, apparently Kathy's forgotten how quick you can get sucker punched for running your mouth & spewing edicts when you really should just be reporting the story. That's just my two cents tho, so lol

It seems like the both of them have an ego problem. lol But Aretha did have a point. I mean even if some don't "know" her specifically, they do know her songs. lol

I have to say Miss Franklin is the one who put herself in this predicament in the first place. She didn't need to profess a desire to be judge in some crappy plastic pseudo-talent show, nevermind the fact that it already overstayed its welcome.

I still wonder why Aretha even wants to do IDOL for the same reasons you mentioned...

IT IS QUITE SIMPLE. MS FRANKLIN WANTS TO BE A JUDGE ON AI SO SHE CRUSH SOME FAKE ASS DREAMS OF BECOMING A POP STARS. I'M ALL FOR IT. I WISH SHE CAN BRING CHAKA, AND PATTI TO THIS GIG. I WANT TO SEE PEOPLE CRAP IN THEIR PANTS TRYING TO SING IN FRONT OF THESE DIVAS.

Duh - for money!

If JLo, Britney etc can be paid 16 million, I guess Aretha thinks she could make that much and more.

I only watched last year for Tyler. I won't be watching the show anymore. It's actually boring and the singers don't do much for me.

Weird.

But Kathy Lee is right. Lot's of teens don't know who she is. They probably know a couple of her songs though. And they most definitely won't tune in just because Aretha's a judge lol

So the general consensus is kids don't know her. Let's not teach them.

Oh well shrug

I'm getting old sad

Considering what Idol is--a singing competition--I can't think of anyone who would be better as a judge.

Britney, Paula, J-Lo are terrible singers. If the show was about dancing, or about being hot, or about being celebs, then they are perfect. But for a legitimate singing competition, you'd BETTER fucking know who Aretha is!

If kids hear their parents play old music then they know who the artists are. And, sometimes, they actually like them. At least...when they grow older. wink

But what's even weirder is, I don't think anyone would be rushing to see Adam Lambert or Miley Cyrus either. That's why I can understand Aretha on this.

Ok this is where I'm leaning...

Aretha Franklin
Miley Cyrus
Bruce Springsteen

Two women instead of two men this time. Change it up.

A legend in Aretha. Soul, Gospel, R&B credibility. Extremely opinionated.

A young artist in Miley. Pop-star. Vibrant personality.

Another veteran in Bruce. The man with Heartland Rock. Straightfoward critiques.

I think the combo is a winner. Kick some life into this show.
