How would you rate Queen Latifah as a SINGER?

Great, good, average, surprisingly good?

Here is her with Al Green singing "Simply Beautiful"

http://www.youtube.com/wa...4yYlw02NVQ

and her singing "Lush Life"

I see you Ms Trina!!! Cosign with Ms Trina. The Queen can hold her own with Al Green and she sang Lush Life-2 things not easy to do.

I think the Queen would be a good fit to play Dinah Washington in a movie-what say you Ms Trina?

Her singing seems forced and it seems she tries to copy different styles to make up for her lack of range. She isnt the most horrible singer in the world but that isnt her forte at all. She looked beautiful in the video though with Al Green, I exactly liked it!

Her tone is nice but her voice is thin. She sure as hell didn't learn to sing in the church. I love a few of her songs though...

nod That's why you don't see too many singers covering that song. Wasn't that (Living Out Loud) a delightful movie? touched

I'll go back to what Diana Ross once said, "Singing is a lil bit more than opening up your mouth." What Latifah possess is presence and gift of interpreting a lyric. If she had been born during New York's Café Society, she would've been the toast of the town.

She sounds good on Lush Life but she's average everywhere else... she does have a tone but I don't know if she uses it properly. I dig her as a rapper though. One of the best that ever did it.

Wow, I love what I'm hearing.

I think she has room to grow and develop her own sound if she wishes, one thing is certain she has a beautiful tone.

From those clips posted, she's just meh.

I'll admit I don't know any of her music except for that 'Bitch' song, but I think she's beautiful and a great actress.

I saw Latifah perform live last year and while she has a pleasant voice and can hold a note, her voice definitely isn't anything special. During her concert last year that I attended, she let one of her back up singers do a little solo spot and the back up singer totally stole the show! The crowd went crazy for her. Latifah's backup sang much better than she did.

So for me Latifah is a bit better than your average karaoke singer, but nothing to write home about at all. I did enjoy her cover of "Hello Stranger" but overall I prefer her as a rapper as opposed to her singing.

Never heard this. Like it a lot; it seems like the most successful effort I've heard from her. It's a hard question when you really go to answer the it because, for me, most often "Her singing seems forced and it seems she tries to copy different styles to make up for her lack of range" keep things interesting" She does lack range, and originality, but she has a really warm character to her voice to where you know it's her and are happy about it. I would love for her to at least do spokenworddefjam poetry, if not lay some rap down, cause the world needs her RIGHT NOW.

A little above average. I say that because IMO she sings a whole lot better than the likes of Rihanna, Britney, Nicki etc, etc.
