Paul McCartney: DO NOT Compare One Direction To The Beatles

paul-mccartney-do-not-compare-one-directio.jpg
paul-mccartney-one-direction-comparison.jpg

But he does say concede they are 'terrific.'

Paul McCartney dismisses any whisperings that the Simon Cowell manufactured X-Factor boyband One Direction compares in any way to (arguably) the most influential band of the 20th century, The Beatles.

On the British morning show Daybreak, Paul said:

"(That's the) kiss of death. So many bands, they all get called the next Beatles. It puts an awful lot of pressure on them to be the next Beatles. Oasis were the next Beatles once, if you remember. It's pressure because suddenly you have got to live up to all the things that we did. It was a different time back then. So let's just call them the next terrific band.”

Aw! Well that’s a lovely way to give praise while not really giving praise!

We agree with Paul and think it’s outrageous to call someone the next (insert great band name here) because all the truly GREAT bands in history were unlike anything that had come before…

Thoughts?

Thats common sense, I agree.

While we're at it, lets retire the "Next MJ" tag as well because it didn't, doesn't and won't work. Just let it go & accept it, people.

EXACTLY...while we are at it, lets lose the term...."Biggest Band in the world" it has been applied to almost 20 bands in a decade, its time to end the HYPE talk and let the talent talk, im tired of people being the biggest and best without doing anything

Yeah it's been going on since the '60s. They need to give it a rest already.

Thoughts? I think Paul was trying to be polite/civilized

a more normal reaction would have been : "YO ASS YO, DO NOT Compare One Direction (ironic name, btw) To The Beatles because They Are Faceless/Forgettable Teen-Pop Crap, ASSHOLE"

I don't know why, but I suddenly started laughing when I saw the pic of the new group.

And it's not because I'm a Beatles fan either; I think I've already made it clear more than once that I think they're the most overrated musicians ever...

lol

I remember when Jonas Brothers where being called the Next Beatles, and my aunt told me some people said the same about New Kids On The Block confused razz

So, i guess comparing every boy band to The Beatles is normal at this point. Kind of how every R&B artist has to be compared to MJ or Prince rolleyes

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Also, is it just me. Or do most artists that come out with a squeaky clean image like a boy band or pop-star end up going dirty/sexual in the end?, or havin huge scandels?

Give it a few years... and the guys will be singing about doing covers, coming out with a ''riske'' video & probably smoke and one most likely will be gay.

You know the cycles of these pop bands lol

You can say that about child stars of any career. Look at Amanda Bynes for example. And yeah it seems to be traditional to be in a boy band and then make a "gay announcement" after they break up (look up Jonathan Knight and Lance Bass). lol

Actually there's nothing squeaky clean about this group. They are pretty wild behind the scenes in the U.K they already smoking and drinking etc you can google the pics lol.(and ages 18 to 20) but in America people are putting that wholesome image on them. I'm happy they are not pushing purity rings like jonas did but I agree with you overrall.

Adorecream

Its preposterous, Beatles are one of the greatest and influential bands of all time, 8 influential albums, over 100 great songs and a global reputation. Songwriters, musicians, artists and performers.

The other band One direction, only sing manufactured pop rubbish, they will have 3 albums tops and maybe 10 hit singles if they are lucky. The Beatles music has been a tried and true template, setting the backdrop for many artists careers. One Direction are trend chasers of a long tradition of manufactured reality TV pop dross, they have had one huge hit, whoopty do, they did not write it, did not play any instruments, they are singing clothes ponies and nothing more, their voices were probably synthesised in the studio, in 2017, everyone will still know about the beatles, no one will remember One Direction and the direction they are heading into is obscurity.

I mean remember all these so called mega groups and singers that Cowbell and others has promoted in the past

Girls Aloud

Liberty X

Steps

5ive

Blue

Will Young

that Gates guy

shall I go on

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
