The contract he signed with them in 2005 hasn't expired to my knowledge. Someone could correct me if they know otherwise.

Change it one more time..

An apt answer because I haven't seen any labels falling over themselves trying to snag Prince for another one-album deal.

He still has a contract with Universal for distribution.

No! Prince has a music publishing deal with Universal to handle his masterpieces. When his Warner/chappel publishing deal expired. He high tailed it over to Universal. They only distributed 3121 for a one album deal that earned him his first number #! album in over a decade.

She should reunite with Babyface, let him produce her album, and get back to the soulful sounds of her first two albums.I think she lost alot of her core audience with these recent albums.

That's what she needs to do, cuz that mess/single she just released, no. neutral

I'm pretty sure he told her all that like 5-7 years ago, but how many artists have killed their careers trying to do what Prince does?

Very good point. Not just any artist can go "independent".It takes alot of hard work and skill to do it successfully.I remember Teena Marie having problems in the 90s when she released an album ('Passion Play') independently. She said that she had thousands of unsold copies collecting dust in a storage room with no way to distribute them.Even Prince has had his share of problems.

No he doesn't. That turned sour after he didn't do his own tour and Tamar's album kept being delayed.

I believe he does still have a publishing deal with them, however.

Toni thinking she can pull a Whitney and go platinum after a long hiatus? Nah boo..

falloff

Firing Vince wasn't the right move either. He was there with her in her platinum days.

Yeah, didn't they get pissed at him when he cancelled plans for a '3121' tour? As retaliation, they refused to release Tamar's album. They didn't think it would be a hit anyway.I remember those rumors.

Yeah, that might be the case. If they changed their agreement they were hush hush about it, but yeah, he's definitely still under contract for publishing with them.

You really have to have business sense and also have smarts and patience. And also be ready to "touch" your fans, you cant go indie and lay back and collect. Rick Springfield to me is the one artist that was with a major and had lots of hits and does the indie thing better than anyone. If i was to show Prince or anyone like that how to do it right and how to touch your fans, this would be the website, its perfect, interactive and Rick is SUPER accessible, remember when Prince did those soundchecks on ONA tour? and we thought wow thats smart, Rick does them 80-90% of his 100 shows a year.So i agree INDIE is a great thing, but a big star sometimes cant deal with the "little things" and U have too. I mean you are granted the luxury of having a fan base, whehter its 100,1000 or 10,000 thats pure profit and a network you need to cater too, if not then u truly dont get what INDIE is
