It's even worse this year:

The annual GRAMMY Awards telecast is known as Music's Biggest Night, but, in the hours leading up to the telecast, music enjoys a pretty big day as well. This year, approximately 70 of the 78 GRAMMY categories will be announced at the Pre-Telecast Ceremony on Feb. 12, with the final categories showcased on the CBS telecast. While there's no denying the unique excitement that's part of every GRAMMY broadcast, the Pre-Telecast has come into its own as a major stand-alone event with a distinctive character, an expanding audience, GRAMMY-style live performances, and, of course, no commercial interruptions.

Why in the world would they only air 8 of the categories? What's the point of the show? confused

They just seem to make things worse... might as well sent a Grammy to someone's mailbox.

Wait, they already have been doing that... announce eight in the major telecast. If you wanna see who won the other awards, go to the pre-telecast. Doesn't really make sense but okay...

They might announce who won Best Pop Solo, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record, Song and Album of the Year since she's nominated in those categories anyway. The only one that won't be televised that she's also up for is Best Video and I already think Gaga got that one if not anything else (can't see her winning Best Pop Vocal Album or Album of The Year).

They'll do one Pop category, one Country category, one Rock category, and one Rap category.

R&B will get the cold shoulder once again. Watch and see.

I don't even know who's gonna win R&B Album this year. The nominations are all over the place.

They should have kept Contemporary R&B instead of trying to concise everything.

Well the committee's already gotten a lot of backlash from them eliminating the 20-some categories. I guess we'll see what they'll decide after this year's Grammys.

lol I don't think they'll go that far... least I hope not. If that's the case, there'll be a bigger uproar than them deleting Best Contemporary Hawaiian Recording. lol

They've done the same thing as far as rock goes. They took out the instrumental rock album category (guess to concise every nod in the Best Rock Album category) and some metal-influenced categories as well.

Pretty much...

I dont see why any category matters when it is centered around popularity and politics. To be honest, I rather see all new different members on the committee than any added categories.. It seems their might have been a few changes or the committee decided they were going to be a little fairer this time around.

Because this past decade has been absolutely ridiculous... Their have been alot of great R&B albums that have gotten snubbed BIG time.

Kelly Price was overcome with emotion on the red carpet as she was chatting with Ryan Seacrest, one of the many displays of mourning in the wake of Whitney Houston's passing just last night. Kelly Rowland described Houston as a "hero" who impacted "not just the music industry but the world." Earlier in the broadcast, Jennifer Hudson called in to confirm that she'd be honoring the late megastar by singing one of Houston's songs (Hudson will sing "about two minutes" of "I Will Always Love You," a Dolly Parton song which Houston covered in 1992). True Dat. LOL. E is milking this for all it's worth. Hopefully, the Grammys will attempt a tasteful approach.

host LL Cool J spoke to E!’s Ryan Seacrest about the last-minute scramble to prepare for the Whitney Houston tribute. “We immediately had to jump in gear and figure out how we could be respectful and show her the love she deserves,” he said. “I hope that Whitney Houston’s family and her friends, first of all, appreciate what we do.” He said that it’s difficult to keep the balance of celebrating Houston’s life, but also celebrating all of the artists who are nominated this year. “You don’t want to lay this dark cloud over their Grammy appearance,” he said. Cool J didn’t want to give up too many details about the tribute, but he did say that he got a preview of Jennifer Hudson’s upcoming performance. “It sends chills through your spine. She is obviously a different singer, different diva, but she’s the closest thing we have now to Whitney.”
