SEAN "DIDDY" COMBS VS. JAY Z "JIGGA MAN"

i'm not a jigga fan. can't stand him actually. he can rhyme his ass off though. so from an artistic influence standpoint for MCs, jigga is more influential. i think diddy has been truer to himself. from his days at Howard, he's always been just a "party starting hustler" (my quotes) just trying to make it. i think he's more of a cultural tastemaker than jigga. damon dash is said to be the one who brought some "class" or should i say "style" to the Roc family. sean jean kills rocawear (neither get my hard earned duckets). so even though he dwarfs diddy lyrically, has J had a song bigger or more "definitive" than Benjamins?

Haha, pretty funny....Jay-Z easily. No one in their right mind would ever choose "diddy" or Jay-Z.

btw, who is "SEAND"?

to me they're like Justin Timberlake, totally ordinary men with nothing to offer.

Jay is certainly a competant rapper, but bland as the carpet in my office. He sounds bored with his own music.

To pick them as "greatest" anything is like picking Donald Trump. Just being rich and in our faces doesn't make them the greatest.

I hesitate to say this but it Puffy/Diddy seems to be taking the reigns from Russell Simmons. He's dabbled in music and fashion and has made a killing marketing that Ciroq Vodka. He has films under his belt. As far as being mogul and pop culture icon he seems to have Jay beat.

I can't comment much on their rapping skills as I think they both are rather average. Jay can rhyme but he has no appeal. Diddy can't rhyme for shit IMO but he makes hot videos.

Sean by a slim margin. I may rethink this based on other org commentary.

Having met both, I would have to say, Jay-Z. Sean, comes off as fake and over cocky. While Jigga knows his way around the studio Sean, has people doing the moves for him while he takes credit. As for as rhyming skills, Jigga. Who do you think, wrote Sean's verses for, "Coming Home".

I agree with this. Even though I don't care for both, if I was gonna do business with one of them, it would be Shawn Carter, aka Jay-Z.

Musically I'm pretty sure everyone would pick Jay-Z, hell when is the last Puffy released a damn album? lol But I suppose Puffy is the better entrepreneur/businessman.

But I've never really been a fan of either. I feel like their music has taken a backseat and that they're basically nothing but hype. Lyrically Common and Pharrell kill them both imo cool.

Jay-Z by a mile. When Biggie was still in the picture Diddy was def running the show. However, he's fallen off and Jay-Z has gained in stature.

But on a side note Diddy has Jay beat when it comes to stylin'. He looks just as good dressed up as he does dressed down!!! FOR REAL!!! He wears it all well. Jay doesnt't....imo. I prefer Jay dressed down. He looks awkward in a suit.

Sean, has to dress that way, in order to play the part of someone who knows, what he is doing.

biggrin . I haven't met Diddy like you have, but my guess would be he knows a lot more than you're giving him credit for. He is still a self-made multi-millionaire, right? Maybe, just maybe, a not so bright person can "accidentally" hit it big. But can they maintain it like Diddy has???? And also parlay it into other areas??? From being a back-up dancer, to hip-hop producer, to SeanJohn to Ciroc??

He has a lil' sumthin sumthin on the ball biggrin

But, again I give Jay the edge cuz taking everything into consideration - hip-hop, roc-a-wear (does this still exist?), The Nets, Beyonce (yes Beyonce. that's partly bidness) he wins.

Wow, Pharrell is a better lyricist than Jigga?! eek And again, i'm NOT a jigga fan, but i'm also not a hater. that assessment wouldn't hold water in ANY hip hop circles with any credibility. Common I'll give u, as I would lots of others including Black Thought but PHARRELL, fa REAL?

Also don't forget Diddy had J-Lo b4 Jigga had Beyonce and I concur, style-wise, Diddy by a mile. I think the sports franchise is the only thing Jigga has on Diddy entreprenuerially

As most have stated here, he has turned out to be a good business man. Other than that, he knows nothing about music,( i.e. beats, bars...etc.). In the studio, he has people who do it for him, while he takes most of the credit. He's an oppertunist. Jigga, on the other hand, knows the business, from the street level up. He knows the music side as well as the business side. He does not take credit, where he doesn't need to.

We're talking about hip-hop music right? I'm not a musician so I don't know anything about creating beats or bars. But I believe most beats/bars for hip hop music are jacked from other artists and songs already created. So are you saying Jay knows more music artists to get the beats from and knows how to remix them better?

Also, I believe Jay gave Diddy credit for the music on the "American Gangster" cd (a hot cd btw. I still play it often). I believe it was Diddy who introduced him to a lot of the '70s music used. I read that somewhere......

I will just say this, while Jay is better at counting musical bars, Diddy has become better at counting money. In my honest opinion, Diddy is NOT an artist in the true sense of the word. He make have a preference as to what he likes to listen to, but I am willing to bet he knows nothing about how to put a rap together. Jay on the other hand, seems more music savy and seems to know more about the structure of a rap song than Diddy. Just because Diddy, introduced him to alot of the music used, on the album,(which I highly doubt), does not make Diddy a musical genius....

lol @ anyone thinking Puffy has musical savvy... BIG had more musical savvy than Puffy, come on. lol If we're gonna give someone credit for the hits on Bad Boy, give it to the Hitmen (mainly Chucky Thompson, etc.) not Puffy.

I feel like Diddy's influence, money and status are often greatly exaggerated.

Same with Jay to a lesser extent.

Can I refuse to endorse either one? Because hip hop was a lot more interesting before these boring motherfuckers and their monotonous drones came along.

ROTFL Agree with this...

I am NOT a fan of both and find them both to be overrated as far as their status goes but I guess I would have to go with Jay Z on this one overall. While he is an overrated rapper, alot of his 90s material is more descent (Reasonable Doubt) than his current material. Diddy on the other hand, never really stood out to me musically and like alot have said took credit for things he didnt do behind the scenes Jay Z does the same thing though. Jay Z also has alot more business moves under his belt and currently is the highest paid rapper right now and half of it is not for being a rapper! lol

I think Diddy overall has more style, swag and charisma more than no personality/boring Jay Z. People say Diddy corny and that might be true but at least he isnt trying to front like he is so intelligent. He likes to have fun and to me does not take himself to seriously musically unlike Jay Z LOL

Jay Z wins this

Well, I like both!

I like rap just as I like Metal, pop and...well,I prefer Funk lol

Diddy is the businessman who gave R&B and Rap a new, fresher sound and made it radio-friendly!

In Europe this made a big difference in the popularity of these genres!

Jay-Z is the true rapper and he knows wich great producer he wants/needs.

But afterwards he also became a busineesman and maybe he´s closing into Diddy??

I remember a list where Diddy still was nr1.

Anyway, I love both...and when I listen 2 the music I don´t care who makes most money wink

99 problems and Hypnotize are as great as any other great song in any genre!!!
