My favorite album was Van Hunt's What Where You Hoping For?.

nobody's list is enumerated, look it up. 'favorite' does not imply 'single'. the title of the thread specifies 'albums'. are you done?

First of all, why you choose to harp on my use of the word "enumerate" as a synonym

with the word "list" is beyond me. I used the word correctly; if you place one item on

a list, you have enumerated, independent of ranking them in order or not:

enumerate 2 : to specify one after another : list

Second of all, although I poked fun at those lists with multiple albums, I still managed

to contribute to the thread: so what's your point and how does your reply to my initial

post do the same?

nobody's harping, just sayin'. and i'm not here to argue semantics. the fact of the matter is, nobody's really listing anything, they're displaying by the means provided.

and i resent being called a poseur and don't consider it 'poking fun'. that's how my post is relevant. i listened to 60-80 albums that were released this year. those i mentioned in my initial post are some of my favorites. if you care to discuss them, you're welcome to; and i will graciously respond. come in here calling names and you just come off as a dick and ima call you on it.

Yeah, you leave that semantic argument alone, kid; you clearly don't know what you're

talking about. You are backpedaling and trying to save face at the same time and look

silly in motion.

You listened to 60-80 albums this year. And you "enumerated" five of which you consider

your favorite. Now, out of which of those five do you prefer? When you find out which one

of those is your favorite, mention it. Don't tell me you can't do this because you just said

you whittled 60-80 down to five. Now whittle five down to 1, dude...

You (and others in here) itemizing your entire 2011 record collection is an example of being self-indulgent and simply wanting people to acknowledge your taste in music;

y'all are in here showing off your taste and that's it.

Nobody really has more than two or three favorites of anything authentically.

i don't need to. i had a few favorites, those are them.

You (and others in here) itemizing your entire 2011 record collection...

if you want me to itemize my record collection, start a thread.

y'all are in here showing off your taste and that's it.

some call it sharing.

Nobody really has more than two or three favorites of anything authentically.

the responses in this thread suggest otherwise.

I actually listened to a lot of music this year, and I stand by my list. So eat it.

Not that any explanation is required, i'll take the bait just to see what you're trying to accomplish.
The purpose of the thread is to allow those that want to, share with others albums they've enjoyed that were released over the course of this year.

It's that simple.

I haven't listened to her new album yet, but I often find her sound so dark & moody, that I often have a hard time appreciating it (as excellent as the production may be).

I probably acquired more music this year than in any year prior, but the vast majority of titles have been pre-2011 releases. Of my 2011 stuff, I probably find myself returning most to these three...

The Bjork release is interesting, because while is it absolutely not what I expected -- or had hoped for from her -- I'm finding it somehow captivating.

Oz Noy - Twisted Blues, Vol.1

With there still being a few days left to 2011, I guess there's still time to come up with my new favorite album of the year. And now that I've heard the whole thing, it would without a doubt be Oz Noy's "Twisted Blues Volume 1". Man! This album is SMOKIN! Especially "Cissy Strut", "Twisted Blues", and "Trinkle Tinkle", but I also like the more mellow "You Are The State" as well. I have no problem just letting this whole CD play from start to finish. In fact, this weekend it's been on REPEAT.

That thread you posted on Oz Noy a few weeks back gave me enough of a clue that I knew I wanted to hear more, but this album turned out to be better than I expected. Or maybe not, because I knew right away that I wanted it, so I must have known because I don't often get the urge to purchase a whole CD just based on hearing one song. But there was something unique about this guys style that really spoke to me. Also, watching the video allowed me to see how serious these guys were about crafting their sound. I would LOVE to hear Oz Noy and Bill Frisell do an album together. Woo-hoo! Although those two together on one project might melt my brain, lol.

This is good stuff man, I would not have wanted to have missed it. And thanks to you, I didn't.

That Cissy Strut clip on my Oz Noy thread might also be one of the last clips showing the late great Ralph MacDonald.

It's funny...back in the 80's, I'da filled UP this list. (Shows how Music has slipped since then, huh?) For 2011, I'd go with Kate Bush's "50 Words for Snow" and Jill Scott's "Light of the Sun." smile

My #1 is definitely Metronomy's The English Riviera. Best shit I've heard for a long time, a very deep and soulful album!

I really love both Kate Bush releases this year: Director's Cut and 50 Words For Snow, Kate is kinda back being herself and I'm really happy with that (and having 2 albums after so many years of hiatius!).

The Kid Creole And The Coconuts come-back album, I Wake Up Screaming, is a really wonderful record by one of my favorite bands of all time, and I appreciate the fact that it's produced by Hercules And Love Affair, one of my favorite contemporary bands (their 2 albums are nothing but astonishing, check it out!).

Other releases of interest are:

The last Little Dragon joint, Ritual Union, not as cool as their previous record IMHO, but still very challenging.

Likke Li's Wounded Ryhmes is a very interesting second effort, very different from the first one and quite dark and intimate.

fDeluxe's Gaslight reminds me of the classic Wendy & Lisa stuff and for that only deserves to be mentioned!

And there's been other interesting things, such as SBTRKT's eponymous album, Thomas Dolby's A Map Of The Floating City, David Lynch's Crazy Clown Time, Lemongrass' beautiful Sirius, and Susheela Raman's Vel where she does her thing with a little wilder side of herself than the usual. I also have to admit that I found that Michael Jackson's Immortal, which I expected to be crap, is a very cool homage to his whole discography, very respectful of the original material and interestingly remixed and put together.

Other things might grow on me with time, and of course I probably have missed a lot of stuff...
