Congrats 2012 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees (GNR, RHCP, Beasties, Laura, Donovan, Small Faces/Faces)

After all was said and done, here are the inductees on the performers list of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame:

  • Guns 'N Roses (Appetite for Destruction, Lies, Use Your Illusion I & II)
  • Beastie Boys (Licensed to Ill, Paul's Boutique, Ill Communication)
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers (Freaky Styley, Mother's Milk, Blood Sugar Sex Majik)
  • Laura Nyro ("Stoney End", "Time & Love", "Wedding Bell Blues")
  • Donovan ("Catch the Wind", "Colours", "Sunshine Superman", "Season of the Witch")
  • Small Faces/The Faces ("All or Nothing", "Tin Soldier", "Itchycoo Park", "Stay with Me")

Will the original GNR actually reunite?

What the hell will the Beasties perform? (Sabotage?)

Will the Red Hot Chili Peppers stay formal or get loose by performance time (pray it's the latter)

Will Donovan perform? (Maybe)

I guess the original Small Faces will reunite...

----

It's kinda bittersweet to see the Small Faces/Faces only because Steve Marriott, the founder of the Small Faces, is no more among the living, which sucks. Laura was being campaigned for so damn long and as dalsh said, Elton John was rooting for her to be included. Donovan should've been inducted in 1990 (same with the Small Faces).

I predict the Spinners to be back on the nomination list for 2013. Yes I called it. lol

Yeah and they mentioned four (GNR, Beasties - I guess, Donovan and Laura) but not a fifth so that's up to debate. It could be:

Donna

Rufus & Chaka

The Spinners

I have a feeling GNR for sure though i wouldnt vote them in, Heart isnt going to get it, though they are way overdue, Joan probably wont either, so im guessing it will be possibly the Beastles The Spinners after all this time, or Donna, GNR, and possibly the Red HOt Chili though again i wouldnt vote them in, i have a feeling Small Faces might finally get in

I'm seeing some info. I don't think the Faces/Small Faces are getting in. The Spinners won't get in this year at all. I'm not too sure of Chaka/Rufus' chances. Donna doesn't look like she's going in either. RHCP is a possibility.

If the leak is correct, here's our inductees:

GNR

Beastie Boys

RHCP

Laura Nyro

Donovan

Early influence: Freddie King (though he was in the performer inductee nomination aisle confused)

Lifetime Achievement Award: Don Kirshner

Musical Excellence: Tom Dowd

Guess they don't induct two, three people into the early influence/musical excellence categories no more.

Michael Nesmith is probably not celebrating. lol

Very sad list getting in, too narrow, shut too many out, Heart should be in long before Laura nyro, not taking anything from her but please, HEART and Ann Wilson with her voice not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame? As for Gnr i knew they were a shoe in, but the show is gonna be a joke, no way i can see slash getting up there with Axl no way, not happening in this life, you thought Eddie Van Halen was a dick, well Axl is king dick. And Red Hot Chili Peppers, sorry, but INXS should be in long before these cats.

They had one chart hit lol again, having a ton of hits don't always guarantee induction according to their rules... they have been on the list of a lot of critically acclaimed albums lists. GNR was a shoo-in from the jump to me. Wasn't sure if the Beasties would get in. I think the one possible inductee I'm actually shocked by are the Peppers... I wonder if George would induct them lol

Several of their 1990's albums were popular like Check Your Head and Hello Nasty. Anyway, when is popularity a factor? Percy Sledge is in. razz The only factor is if the heads of the Hall dig an act's music or the performers' personally. Rolling Stone is more kind to classic rock than disco, which was not taken seriously. If you've read the magazine in the past, then you know what kind of music they dig, and those are the acts that more likely to get inducted. It's like if there was a Right On! magazine Hall Of Fame, then you know that AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, or The Carpenters are not likely to be in it. lol

I wonder who's gonna rep Laura though. I had a hunch Nyro was gonna get in, the committee loves her. So I'm proud for her though she's dead, which sucks. rolleyes But knowing how anti-establishment she was, she'd probably say "fuck the Hall of Fame". lol

So true! Laura was truly anti-establishment...but God Bless her and the legacy she left behind. She should've gotten it the year Carole King got it.

If the committee hadn't changed the names of the non-performing categories, she'd get in as a songwriter but I guess this is better than being ignored another year. I think the way the list looks, I'm not surprised they're inducting who they're inducting this year. A list that diverse was gonna lead to disappointment anyway for people who are particularly not fans of those who do eventually get inducted.

I just went to a Donna Summer forum and understandably, fans are pissed.Someone posted this....

Okay, it's time for some action. One of the members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominating committee went public with her vote. You can read it here: http://www.austinchronicl...-and-roll/

She says that she didn't vote for Donna because her sphere of influence is too limited. Can you imagine? Donna (and Giorgio) paved the way for the like of those that followed...Taylor, Madonna, Janet, Shannon, Expose, Kylie, etc.

If you disagree with her, there is a comment section after the article itself. Yeesh!

I get what you're saying but you know what? If Rolling Stone doesn't take disco seriously, they shouldn't nominate disco artists at all! Why even nominate Donna and Chic if they have zero chance of ever getting inducted? It makes me furious.

GNR don't deserve it to me. their body of work is to small. sure Appetite was huge and UYI (I & II) sold well, but too few albums and long hiatuses.
