I have been a Bjork fan since The Sugarcubes, but i'm having a tough time trying to digest this album. Played it every day for a while now and it's just not working....yet.

I long for her to do another album of crazy dance pop tunes with lyrics and gigs to match.

That's why it's called art, it's not supposed to be easily digestable.

I'm not going to bother.

I will, of course, give it another spin when the overhauled version is released.

But that leaked version did absolutely nothing for me. It's got all of the quirkiness and pathos of a late-period Bjork album. Unfortunately, she forgot to convey it into music.

"Virus" was nice, I guess. It at least contained the most song-like elements.

Very disappointing. Even moreso than Medulla.

This is in the Radiohead style of albums, no actual radio style singles to take apart. You have to sit or lie down and hear it as a whole. This sounds like it will put your speakers to good use, I'm enjoying it so far. It might become first Bjork purchase .

It is. But then you could probably say that about most of her albums. They are usually comprised of music, though.

hmmm I don't find it quite as inaccessible as you seem to, but I think I know where you're coming from. This streaming version is sort of like Vespertine, Medulla and Drawing Restraint 9 grafted into a single organism. Yet for all that idiosyncrasy, it's lacking in what immediate charm any of those had. On balance, I'd say I'm open to what I hear, but there's definitely room for it to grow on me.

i was a bit scared at first that i might not like this at all. but "crystalline" was a good

first introduction. i didn't listen to the other 'singles' because i wanted to have a true

"album" experience.

and when i sat down with this a couple of weeks ago, it just clicked the first time and

i've been listening to it a lot since then.

it's sparse, i guess that can be said about it. but i don't find it lacking in songs or in

melody. in fact, there are some real nice melodies in most of the songs.

imo it's a big step up from both medulla and volta, altho those both had some real

incredible songs, they didn't feel like great albums. this one does, at least to me.

i wonder what will be changed in the official release next week. there are said to be

some more 'micro beats' and one of the songs will be replaced with a live version,

possible "thunderbolt" according to fanboards since that one seems to come off a

lot more haunting and 'real' when played live.

not that i care too much, i love this version to bits already.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Virus, Mutual Core & Crystalline resonated with me instantly. but it really took no time for the rest of the album to catch on with me too. I enjoy playing it as a whole a lot.

hi, i am kinda intrested in getting into Björk.

i have NEVER heard any of her music untill i just went onto itunes and previewed a few from her new album.

like someone above said " That's why it's called art, it's not supposed to be easily digestable." i see what you mean, i listened.. and i enjoyed it.. but am very confused. lol

let me give you a little bit of my musical tastes/ influences. Michael Jackson,Prince,David Bowie,James Brown, Queen, Lady Gaga. (if i had to sum it up)

i feel like its like the first time i heard bowie.. i wasnt really feelin it, but now i love him.

where is a good place to start (albums?)

thanks!

I really enjoyed her for many of those early solo years, even her acting in Juniper Tree and that one where she was on death row. Her remixes were even more fantastic than the already incredible album tracks. With all that, I just can't seem to dig her as much lately. I like her ideas still, but the songs all seem like the same song after a while. Just kind of noodling notes up and down, but no identifiable melodies. I'll still give this album a chance and hope to be blown away, just a little more skeptical these days.

Debut, Post, Homogenic and Verspertine are all top-notch.

I'd start from the beginning.. Debut is her most pop release.

Although my starting point was Post. smile

As for Biophilia, I've listened to it once. It's not bad, but I haven't drawn into listening to it again.

"Cosmogony" feels like the centerpiece. It's also written with Sjón and some of her best songs have been a product of that collaboration (Isobel, Bachelorette, Oceania, Wanderlust).

Tortilla is right that you should start with her earlier albums since you are coming from a pop background based on what you listed above and Björk's first two albums are her most accessible. Then if you like what you hear, keep going down the rabbit hole until you get to Biophilia--although many fans will agree that you hit bottom with the Drawing Restraint 9 soundtrack.

If you really, really, really anticipate liking everything, just splurge on the Surrounded box set:
