He was a treasure. I'm so sorry to hear this. Ashford was so talented. Ashford and Valerie made history together. I didn't even know he was sick. Eventhough he was 70 years old, i'm still shocked and sad by this.

My prayers go out to his Family and loved ones.

He sure will be missed sad

That's an 800-pound gorilla I wouldn't mind respectfully discussing on another thread, at another time in the distant future. Right now, I only want to celebrate the man, the songs, and his wonderful wife, colleague, and soul mate, who literally made beautiful music together. Because whatever the deal (...he certainly appeared to be comfortable within his own skin), without any doubt, the man was FABULOUS (...by anyone's definition of the word).

Saturday Funeral Services Announced for Nick Ashford

However, the start time is a bit curious

*According to sources, EUR has learned that the funeral for singer/songwriter/producer Nick Ashford will be held this Saturday, August 27, at Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem.

Curiously the start time for the going home services is scheduled for 4 PM (New York time).

That raises the question of his burial. If he is to be buried, would it be Saturday night or Sunday? Or another day? As of this posting, we simply haven’t been able to find out. However, some are speculating that he may be cremated.

As far as the repast, our sources say it will be held at Ashford’s – and his now widow – Valerie Simpson’s Sugar Bar on West 72nd. Street in Manhattan.

Nick Ashford lost his battle with throat cancer at the age of 70 this past Monday.

Yeah it's like "oh you mocked me for liking him but now he's dead it's cool to play him again?" And then they look at you funny when you don't play him. -Timmy on after 6-25 fans

His longtime friend and former publicist Liz Rosenberg told The Associated Press that Ashford - who along with wife Valerie Simpson wrote some of Motown's biggest hits - died Monday in a New York City hospital. He had been suffering from throat cancer and had undergone radiation treatment.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Yes I forgot about them. Thats what I hate about getting older. All the artist I've grown up with or either dead/ or dying off.

That is why we need to appreciate the ones that are still here now. Not long ago(barely a week or two). I was reading some very nasty remarks on this very site about Nick Ashford. How do they feel now?

The name that this site is named after, is torn apart on here on a daily basis. Wake up people! Stop criticizing your favorite artist. Just because they don't look or record the way U want them to.

Well, I just joined this site last week so I haven't seen anything bad about Nick but on other sites I see people ripping him apart and saying he was on the ''down low''. Like how would you know he was on the ''down low''? Did you sleep with him? I swear people are so stupid

Nick Ashford's Funeral Arrangments:

Funeral: Saturday, August 27, 2011

Starting time: 4pm

Where: Abyssinian Baptist Church 132 Odell Clark Place (W 138th St & Lenox Ave.) New York, NY 10030.

For further information call (212) 579-0222

Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson's statements:

I am shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Nickolas Ashford. He, together with his wife Valerie Simpson, wrote and produced some of the most unique and memorable songs in the Motown catalog for some of Motown’s biggest artists, such as Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell’s “You’re All I Need To Get By.” They were most responsible for the great hits of Diana Ross’s solo career, including one of my favorites, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, ” which became Diana’s signature song. But more importantly to me, Nick Ashford was an all-around beautiful human being. Nick will always be a great part of the Motown family and legacy. I send my love and deepest sympathies to Val and his children. I will remember his warm smile, his great heart and the wonderful songs he left us with. Despite my personal sorrow, I know we will be celebrating his life forever.

Looks like the coastal areas are being evacuated. The biggest concern for the more urban parts of New York is power outages and the possibility of broken windows. All the trains and buses have been stopped so I would guess an event of this size would be postponed.

Looking at their list of hits.... Diana Ross owes them her career. I always loved how A&S divafied Ain't No Mountain High Enough for Diane and then the greatest female anthem of all time, I'm Every Woman by Chaka. They wrote so many hits and I'll always respect and enjoy their songwritiing hall of fame abilities. I wasn't a fan of any of their work as artists though. They always seemed cheesy to me.

Diana should be in the front pew @ that funeral for what he did for her career. But she didn't attend MJ funeral, so I doubt she will attend this one. It would shock me if she did.
