Very sorry to hear about his passing. God bless him and his family. As far as Im concerned he and Valerie were one of the best songwriting duos ever. They deserve as much recognition as Lennon/McCartney

I forgot "Clouds!" I love that one. I couldn't find "Our Love's In Danger" by Chaka.

Small random fact: Nick had a cameo role in the Mario Van Peeble's 1991 urban crime classic, New Jack City as Reverend Oates.

Thank you for posting "Send it". I forgot how pretty that song was.

I didn't care for the light contacts that Nick wore, but with his natural eye color, I always thought Ashford and Simpson was a very striking looking couple.

I always thought they were physically the complete opposites and complemented each other very well.

She was very light, pretty and petite, he was tall dark and handsome. Very striking.

Ooooh...forgot about this one! That trademark A&S sound (tight and lean, yet so lush and sensual). This is one of those cuts that define their sound the best.

On no, such sad new to wake up this morning, another one of my musical heroes gone. Not only did they record a lot of great songs themselves, but they always managed to bring out the best out of the artists they worked with. Diana Ross, for example, never was better than when she recorded with the legendary Ashford & Simpson... RIP Nicholas!

I was just watching one of those Time-Life infomercials this past weekend, marveling at Ashford & Simpson, remembering how back in the 80's so many were encouraging Valerie to branch out on her own as a solo act, and how glad I was that they stuck together as a duo all these years. I actually love those Time-Life infomercials and usually watch them all the way through. They bring back so many great memories, ten seconds at a time, lol.

Like so many of us here, I'm saddened to be learning of Nick's death. Moreover, I'm having trouble accepting how such a beautiful person, with such a gifted voice, can be stricken with something as awful and mocking as throat cancer. I don't understand how that can happen, and it makes me angry, and immensely sad. And even though I never had the opportunity to know Nick Ashford personally, his passing only makes me more anxious about whom within my personal circle of friends & family I may be losing next. It also causes me to take closer inventory of my own life.

Another twinkling light in the Broadway of my world has just gone out. And yet again, there's no replacement. Rest peacefully, brother Nick.

Rest in peace Nick Ashford. Thoughts go out to your wife and soul-mate Valerie. I cannot imagine how losing someone that you created some of the most memorable popular songs with, must feel. True definition of a partnership in all aspects of their life.
