Wow BunnyS., not to understand: Darling Nikki and Computer Blue!!!!! (you can't be much of a Prince-fan?)..

surely those are better than the overhyped and much too played Billie Jean.....

Those 2 songs: Darling Nikki and Computer Blue are like magic to me.... music

Ps. I love Thriller the album is great, Purple Rain is just better for me...

Those two aren't better than 'Billie Jean' but 'When Doves Cry' is.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Kinda hard...but I'm gonna go with Thriller!

Not one song in Thriller album I can say I ever disliked...but I've always hated how Darling Nikki ends...that subminal backward message thing? :pukes: It ruins the entire song for me. ugh.

And I don't like how somg songs in Purple Rain sound similar...in a way that there's lots of screaming and shouting going on (with guitar solo occasionally). Thriller album just defines the entire pop music world imo. There's a great heavily beat based dance track, a powerful track with rock edge to it, a beautiful R&B ballad, a catchy pure pop tune....all this and it still successfully carries the funky echo of Off the Wall...what a masterpiece love And I've always loved all MJ + Rod Temperton combination...Baby Be Mine of all being my absolute favorite!!!

Let's Go Crazy vs. Wanna Be Startin' Something

Take Me With You vs. Baby Be Mine

The Beautiful Ones vs. The Girl Is Mine

Computer Blue vs. Thriller

Darling Nikki vs. Beat It

When Doves Cry vs. Billie Jean

I Would Die 4 U vs. Human Nature

Baby I'm A Star vs. P.Y.T.

Purple Rain vs. The Lady In My Life

Purple Rain is more adventurous, and less boring.

Thriller is more easily consumed by the masses.

I vote for Purple Rain.

Let's just have this damned thread people. It'll probably wind up being like 30 pages long, and by the time it's over, people will be so sick of arguing and debating that we won't see another vs thread for years.

Thriller is a better album, but ironically, I own a Purple Rain t-shirt and shyed away from buying a Thriller one though I bought tons of others.

I see lots of frustration from the VS threads...But honestly I like reading others' opinions and preferences. It's not like i want everyone to agree with me or think one way...When I read different opinions it makes me take another look at the album....oh well...

What does being more appealing to the masses have to do with anything being discussed in this thread? Didn't Purple Rain also highly appeal to the masses at one point as well?!?!?!?!

For me its THRILLER... but thats obvious.. lol

I think this is basically boils down to personal opinion.

Thriller has not only great songs, but amazing videos.

As an album Purple Rain sounds a little more cohesive, but in terms of songs?

Thriller >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Purple Rain

Not even a question. While Purple Rain is one of the few Prince albums I can sit through without going insane, I find Thriller's songs to be a lot more memorable and much stronger.

1999 would sure as hell win cuz that album is off the chain!!!

Thriller beats PR tho.

Prince is the man. With that said, i would rather listen to Thriller in it's entirety than PR. When Doves Cry is the only caveat. There is nothing like When Doves Cry.

In regards to Prince I'm a fan, In regards to music I'm a fanatic!!

I've always thought Thriller sounds sort of patchy. Despite its commercial success it just seemed like MJ's "transitional record". The tracks Rod Temperton wrote and the ones that Michael did sound quite different. Then of course there's that Toto track, which has a different type of a vibe as well.

Purple Rain is all music from the same guy. It wasn't like Prince was "rehearsing" anything anymore. He was at the top of his game when he did the record and there's absolutely nothing insecure about it. Prince did whatever he wanted and he wasn't asking Quincy Jones any opinions.

Tough one, but gotta go with PR.

First 2 the people who just think PR is better cuz P wrote everything, thats just BS. Who cares who wrote it, if the tracks are good then they are good dont matter if 100 or just 1 guy wrote it.

PR and Beautiful Ones are ballads that were never heard in that time, the lady in my life, although a really good song and beautifully sung, was not really original. The ending and climax of BO is just epic ( do you want me part).

IWD4U, take me with you,CB and Baby im... are just funky pop songs and wel executed the change is CB is magnificient.

Lets go is allright a funky funny rock and roll track, but not a real favourite.

DN is allright also not a favourite but not bad.

WDC is just unique and beautiful just like Billie Jean.

on thriller i dont like beat it and the girl is mine. Beat it sounds like a bad attempt making some sort of rock, i always think of 80s cartoon action themes when i hear beat it. The girl is just corny and 2 sweet for me.

BJ, Thriller andHuman Nature and WBSS are the real standouts and classics.

Baby be Mine and PYT are great rnb/funk tracks, but were not really something new in that time productionwise.

In the end i think as a whole PR is better. It had one sound and reallly sounds as an album.

Thriller sounds as a collection of hits, which are great, but doesnt really sound as an album.
