Michelle Obama, Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, Bono and Stevie Wonder to Honor Beyonce

LAS VEGAS, Nev. --

Beyonce has throngs of fans – including celebrities and political power players – and a few famous faces will be part of a tribute to the “Run The World (Girls)” singer at the Billboard Music Awards, Access Hollywood has learned.

Sources tell Access that First Lady Michelle Obama, Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, U2 frontman Bono and Stevie Wonder will take part in a tribute to Beyonce at this Sunday’s award show in Las Vegas, where the 29-year-old beauty will be honored with the Millennium Award.

Beyonce recently teamed up with the First Lady and the National Education Foundation in the fight against childhood obesity, and worked with fellow pop superstar Lady Gaga on their 2010 hit, “Telephone.

The stunning singer also performed Etta James’ classic ballad, “At Last,” for President Obama’s inaugural dance with Michelle in 2009.

The Billboard Music Awards air on Sunday at 8 PM ET/PT on ABC

Barbra paying tribute to Bey? The others I can imagine, but Barbra?! Well, that answers the q if Beyonce has reached "icon" status yet. Barbra is paying her a tribute. ...

I don't even think all of these types of people combined got together to pay tribute to MJ in life all on the same stage......truly an mj stan that pays for her popularity. How about she first work her ass off without daddy and then EARN the award, just like those undeserving first 4 grammys.

I take it you haven't been around many sistas or Latin women. lol That's not a bad thing. Beyonce's kinda flat, not "bootylicious" at all. Iris Chacon is more like it. wink

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I too find it peculiar that Stevie Wonder, Barbara Streisand, and Bono are honoring Beyonce for her musical career. Maybe her philanthropy but she is relatively young to get a homage from these stalwarts of music. She is a talented vocalist and her music shouldn't be derided for her parental management. She probably has 5 more years to really make a good run.

Oh ok. Still dont see why she'd be getting any type of "millenium" award when her career is only a little over a decade old. I know she's had a lot of hits but certainly not that many to be getting a millenium award? None of this makes any kind of sense! SMH...

Why do you all have to be do nasty about her? If you don't like her don't start threads about her. She has performed with or for all those people, that's why they are doing it. It's nothing to do with money. Why can't these people just genuinely like her or think she is talented? Some if you make me sick, spouting your bile.

her performance was alright. It was typical, i seen her 2003 MTV bring out like 100 plus girls on stage and dance before, in a tiny booty shaking dress. The visuals were okay. But her dancing was sloppy and truthfully, it looks like a out of shape person dancing.

What is a millennium award and why is Beyonce getting one?

Mj_beyonce

Beyonce Giselle Knowles is a pop legend. In her 10+ years in the music industry, Beyonce has outworked, outtwirked and outperformed many of her peers with ease and skill. She's sold countless albums, won 16 Grammys and she deserves almost every accolade she's been awarded. But Billboard's decision to a...nium Award is a headscratcher.

We're only 11 years into the new millennium and we've already decided to crown Bey the queen of the next 1,000 years?

Of course, Beyonce isn't the first artist to be awarded with a seemingly bizarre "millenium" award. Michael Jackson famously got a "millenium" award at the 2002 VMAs, or at least he thought he did. (Jackson fans will still argue that MTV pulled a switcheroo on Michael) But he actually got a real life millennium award from the World Music Awards in 2000.

Mariah Carey was also crowned the "best selling female artist of the millenium" that same year by the World Music Awards. Keep in mind that Soundscan only started tracking sales data in 1991, which means that Mariah only began "competing," if you will, in the last 9 years of the millennium. Also, take into consideration the fact that "records" of any form were only sold in the 20th century, rendering the "millennium" part of the award is pretty meaningless. Even Mariah herself seemed stumped about the accolade in her acceptance speech.

The intent behind these awards is obvious: Deify a favorite pop star by rewarding them for their entire body of work way before they die. It's red meat for the base and the bigger the star honored, the larger the draw in audience. It's a vanity award, really. But you could say that about most award shows. Unless you're Kanye West. Who, as we all know, takes awards shows very, very seriously.

Beyonce_sla

The World Music Awards waited until the end of the millennium to dole out their awards last time, but it appears that Billboard wants to jump ahead of the pack and crown Beyonce the best at the beginning of the millennium rather than waiting for 2999. "Single Ladies" and all of its leotard glory would surely be a distant, faded memory at that point in time. It'll be the equivalent of renaissance music to future generations.

It's possible that Billboard doesn't mean to crown Beyonce as THE artist of the millennium with their award, but then again that's exactly what the name implies, so that's their fault for the misconception.

Perhaps we should just stick to awarding artists for a decade worth of work. Heck, we can even deal with centuries, cause you can argue that Michael Jackson was indeed one of the greatest artists in the last century. But trying to crown someone for the past or future thousand years is one leap too far. It's like calling an album the "Best Album in the Whole Galaxy." It's too big, too broad to have any real meaning in the moment that it's being given.

If we're gonna make up awards for Beyonce, how about "Best Hair Flip While Standing In Front Of a Wind Machine," "Lace Front Artist of the Year" or "Best Use of Bedazzled Costuming by a Pop Star." Just cut this millennium nonsense out.

http://www.barkbiteblog.c...g-one.html

Who will be up for next year's millenium award? Beiber? Gaga?

fanMAIL: Did Beyonce Buy ...ium Award?

The following email from loyal reader Jasmine D makes some very valid points about Beyonce being honored with the “Billboard Millenium Award” — an award that no one has ever heard of.

Is it any surprise that Billboard comes up with this dubious honor for Beyonce at a crucial time when both Kelly Rowland and Rihanna are eating her lunch?

Dear Sandra,

Let me start off by saying that I am a HUGE fan of your site. I visit it everyday and I absolutely adore you and your (hilarious) commenters =D.

But anyway, I don’t know if you heard or not, but apparently Beyawnce is going to be honored with the Billboard Millenium Award (whatever that is) at the 2011 Billboard Awards. I say, “whatever that is,” because (obviously, that is supposed to be a high honor to receive), however, prior to Beyonce’s nomination, you will find no other receiptients or even links to this award (Google it). It’s as if it never even existed.

And, even if it did exist, out of all the living (and dead) legends we’ve witnessed in America (M.J., Prince, Tina Turner, Teena Marie, ect.), Billboard chooses an amatuer (compared to the decade long careers of the REAL legends) whose solo career hasn’t even spanned over a decade and who has created no classics or made any significant contributions to the music industry, as the recepient.

I put the link that I got the story from in the e-mail so you could read it for yourself, but after visiting numerous other websites and reading the comments, it seems like most of us (besides Bey’s delusional stans) are on the same page. It’s CLEAR that camel and his phony wife bought this award. RiRi is nominated for 18 Billboard awards this year, and being that Beyonce is the vindictive and jealous, talentless being that she is, it should come as no surprise why she would pay a pretty penny to get the attention back on her.

She hasn’t put out an album in two years, her recent single FLOPPED, plus she just isn’t iconic to begin with, so why now? Let me know what you think about it, but her motive is clear to me Sandra. Beyonce may have her stans and the other simple minded humans of the world fooled, but I’m not.

I’m not fooled either, Jasmine!

Ouch!
