Annoying habits of your favorite singers?

I was recently listening 2 some Calvin Richardson & Dru Hill material and I noticed a couple of things that almost drove me 2 turning it off.

Calvin kept saying..."listen" before every other sentence in almost every song, then he would let out this lil sound that he copied from Charlie Wilson. That is extremely annoying in every single song.

I was also listening 2 Dru Hill and notice that Sisqo let's out the same yell in almost every song.

Do the producers of this material NOT know this is happening? What's wrong with these folks?

Do u have any performers that have any annoying habits like this?

Sisqo - "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhh!" (it's funny to me though)

Tyrese -"ooooohhoooo nooooo..babe."

Charlie Wilson - that little girly chuckle he does...

Not a favorite of mine, but:

Christina Aguilera - "Heh!" (in between verses) and that neck-snap thing these little pop starlets are doing has gotten outta control.

That reminds me of thing Ashanti used 2 do, it drove me nuts the 6 times I listened 2 her project.

"ohhh baby baby".

i hate when Janet gets all whispy and "fake-shy" in interviews. i know she has a soft voice and is generally shy, but i've seen her when she is lose and engaging so when she overdoes the "soft-spoken, shy, demure" routine it kinda grates. also she has this one shoulder shrug (and caress) that i think began in the Again video and usually shows up when she's singing a ballad. don't know WHAT that is, i think its supposed to evoke sincerity or longing but its soooo made up.

uhhh when Prince tries too hard to be deep in interviews. I think he IS an intelligent man, but he leads ppl to think otherwise sometimes

I hate when people do that in general conversation. Or when they start every sentence with "look". I think people that do that are secretly worried that you're not paying them any attention. Like the person that has to constantly nudge your shoulder when they're talking to you in person. That shit makes me want to move away from them, lol.

Great topic! When Mariah is adlibbing live she does this all the time: Hee-ee-eeeyyyee-eessss. I guess it's a "hey" and a "yes" combined.

I love Lady T but on the Naked To The World album, her peeps and squeaks were becoming a little loud!

That's not a habit. She has always been that way.

Besides the topic of the thread is about habits when singing. I don't think Janet has any since she's not much of a singer that ad-libs and such.

When Mariah Carey started doing that whisper-singing stuff around the Butterfly album. It increased to the point where a lot of her songs were mainly her doing that, and I hated it. It always drove me nuts because I love her voice and when she actually just SINGS.

I was never crazy about all the kind of vocal ticks and 'hee hee' and stuff Michael Jackson started doing around...was it the Bad or Dangerous era?

Really? eek EVEN HIS VOCAL HICCUPS?? And what about his "HO!" shoutings?

I think it started in Thriller era...In Wanna Be Startin Something I believe he goes ho~ ho~ hee hee hee ~ at the end

Billie Jean; "...But the kid is not my son, hee, hee, hee", etc.

I don't like Eminem's slim shady voice...I know most of his fans love it but it just sounds so annoying to me DX And I couldn't stand how he used to constantly grab his crotch on stage...ESPECIALLY during The Eminem Show ~ Encore era...ugh ugh ugh DX

MJ was doing that stuff since the beginning. You can see instances of it on Off the Wall and "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)" as well.

I love Mariah's whispery voice. She was doing it from the first album on, but as her belting voice deteriorated she used it more and more.

I agree on Michael. He always did the same ole shit on every track. He wasn't as vocally diverse as I would have expected. Still love his voice though! But I only have 6 of his CDs.

"Don't Stop" begins with an "Oooooh!"

"Workin Day and Night" begins with scat-like percussive vocals

"Shake Your Body" has a hiccup at the end of like every line, lol. "Off the Wall" also has them. Hell, I think even "She's Out Of My Life" has them too.

Britney being nasally on many of her songs, it ruins catchy songs with good melodies. If her voice was better then I would call myself a fan, but that made me lose all these points with her, along with a few other things

I loooove Janet but don't always feel she needs to moan as much as she did, she just is hot without trying

Beyonce oversings, we all know she can sing, but she's more about theory than soul and I'm realizing now.

Last but not least, Michael. I have no complaints musically, but I have felt so sad and depressed when he was going through shit, even now in death. Like one day being mad at those who let him down, and other days wishing he didn't let people take advantage of him by bringing shit upon himself, and having a stronger backbone though none of us can know what it was like to be him. I think I was just annoyed that things didn't always work out for him and how unfair it was to him.

K maybe we're thinking of different hee hees. I was thinking more of the ones like, "Go on girl, Hee-Hee!"(from Way U Make Me Feel), you know, the ones that make you wonder if you should consider that as a part of actual 'lyrics' lol But thanks I love this song!!

There's several of them at the end of You Can't Win. On The Jacksons' song, go to around 5:15.

Not all these people are my favorite singers but they annoy me...

beyonce and her vocal runs and over singing

rihanna's goat voice

Mariah whispering the whole song then out of no where she belts out in a whining type baby voice and then back to whispering singing again... it catches me off guard... and i miss her old style of signing during the beginning of her career...

Janet too is guilty of the whisper singing... and she tried that mess on the Dicipline album... on some of her songs and I did enjoy the songs but i didn't like that singing style...

christina aguilera- the way she shouts so loud like a sock is stuck down her throat... oooooh-hoooo-aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaoooooooooooooooooooooooooo-yaaaaah--- lol

and just in general.. when i see people try to sing in the black american style of singing and it sounds forced and unnatural... like Joss Stone, Adele and several others... its like everyone trying to sing like that... and lack soul in their voice... its not cute.....

christ brown, trey songz, usher, mario... all sing in the same style... can't we find some rnb male singers who are the equivalence of marvin gay or luther please... and not these R-kelly copy cats...

I don't know if it necessarily involves my favorite singers, but I generally don't care for when people yell out "Remix!" or announce some producer/beatmaker's name in a song. I don't recall anybody in the old days saying Ted Macero, George Martin, Norman Whitfield, Mutt Lange, or Bob Rock in a tune. lol

This can be said for many artist's mainly my hip hop artists even the good one's when they constantly refer to themselves.

Anytime i hear it's ya boy so & so, and tell your bitch & the girls who so & so is, better not leave that girl around so & so.

I am a huge fan of Sammy Hagar but he say's HEY way to much... in his Van Halen day's & solo i get it's like the working up of everything but i mean he overdoes it eek

Rob Zombie say's yeah to much in his song's in fact it's in a fast majority, i know he is not what you would call a good singer but i still count him cause i love him lol

Billy Corgan i love the pumpkins but i get annoyed with that screeching he does in a lot of his song'sd especially in the Mellon Collie era.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

R. Kelly gets on my nerves whenever he goes "it's your boy" or "it's the Pied Piper" or when those teardrops appear every time he does a ballad. lol
