I was floored when the dance version video of Pumps N A Bump came out....I was hooked. I still sweat to the high heavens on my living room floor when that song comes on.

I bet you do. Hell, I recorded the video off of BET back when it was popular and when I got a DVD recorder years later, I recorded the VCR tape onto a DVD. With it on DVD, I can zoom in as close as I can on the damn g-sting he's wearing. I definately see why he calls himself "The Hammer". I noticed when zooming in, that he's got razor redness on his legs right outside the g-string. Hell, he should have left that alone because those hairs peeking out would have been sexy as HELL. lol

I would post the video from youtube but the sound has been taken out. The only video youtube has with sound is the "other" video of the song where he is dressed like shit hop trash. barf

Kind of embarrassed to admit I owned Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em on cassette, I also liked the song he had on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles soundtrack.

I always got a lick out of his dancing. His music? Not so much.

One of the worst rappers out at that time.

He was throwing down. There was shit hop at the time (the type of rap that took over the 1990s and still exists today....the slow "beat with some talking" type rap) but it was mostly underground where it belonged. MC Hammer was making the type of rap or hip hop like the other acts before him that were making that were getting airplay on the mainstream R&B stations such as Pretty Tony, Freestyle, Egyptian Lover, Soul Sonic Force, Twilight 22, Run DMC, etc. He was making what music should be...to dance to.

Considering that most of his music was made from samples which is really just "mixing" and mixing is a job for a DJ, not a musician. Just think about what a DJ's goal is. It's to get the asses shakin'. It's not to provide a background that is slow enough for someone to simply "talk" over. So actually he was just doing what he was supposed to do. It was the rappers that came later that had the wrong idea. I mean "mixing" that wasn't meant for the dance floor....barf lol

Leave it to your ass to talk about some damn MC Hammer or the 69 Boyz as

legitimate rap artists. lol

Hammer's 1st album was alright but anything after was garbage.

Sweet LD

BTW, I still can't believe she would use that name back then. Or was I the only one who always thought "learning disability" whenever she said it? lurking

LOL!!! I didnt know that. I hardly watch the Pool House version of the song because I am too busy imagining the dancing done on the second version. I never had a DVD Recorder to record VHS. I bet you have tons of good old school videos!! Thank god for youtube. There is a video of Hammer doing a performance of Pumps And A Bump in 2009 I believe doing the same dance steps as back in 1994....

I associate Can't Touch This with the Detroit Pistons...it was never a song I liked that much, and that sealed the deal.

But he had plenty of jams that I would still bump if I had them, namely: lets get it started, this is the way we roll, and gaining momentum.

Did someone say Hammer was a terrible rapper, he arguably had the best verse in the West Coast All-Star track.

I don't know, I was always partial to Def Jef and Eazy's verses myself...

Though overall the track pales in comparison to Self Destruction smile

Dude could put on a heck of a show, but his music was unlistenable to me. disbelief

I did dig the remix to Pray, though.

Nah, I gotta give it up to Young MC (yeah, I said it!) and especially Shock G/Humpty Hump. Eazy is up there as well.

Co-sign on the last part, though. I have a soft spot for "We're All in the Same Gang," but "Self Destruction" is the truth!
