Aretha's version was song with of course a lot of soul, but Lonette McGee's version to me is more like a shooting from the hip, sexy version, especially with the ad libs.

Aretha and others called him "the gentle giant".

This was such a great song. Beautiful...oh and the album just badass. The stuff Curtis was doing back in the day, unbelievable. Though, I do believe that the interesting thing about this album is that they were both in dry spells commercially and at times, artistically (disco). This was the album that proved that they could still put magic on wax and it showed that Aretha's gospel and soul roots that worked effectively during her early Atlantic stint was still promising. music

I love this version by Aretha. Have this on vinyl. I'll bet Curtis would STILL be writing great music today. I miss him and his work.

Had things not happen as it did that night in 1990, we'll still have him here today. sad

I absolutely love this by Aretha. There are two other songs entitled "Sparkle" that I love too. One by Earth, Wind and Fire and the other by Cameo. All are classics.
