HELP NEEDED: Music Sites Other than the Org?

Can anyone recommend any other Music forum sites that you frequent other than the org?

I'm looking for Classic R&B, Disco, Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Jazz Funk.

I began going to Stevehoffman.tv alot! Some great stuff on upcoming releases and other music related discussions. There's a new Prince album discussion there as well.

Check me out and add me on:

No other sites where I discuss anything. Partly because, believe it or not, people are actually fairly civil at the org. The interaction is much worse on teh internets at large. And partly because people are just dumb. lol But I do visit the AV Club, American Songwriter, Billboard, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Spin, Spinner and Stereogum daily. Some days I get nothing out of the effort, but some days I may learn about more new music/bands than I can easily process.

I'd actually love to find a great jazz discussion site, but most jazz listeners are very fractured, specific and snobby about what they listen to (myself included). Any time I've tried to get into a jazz site I've become frustrated and angry by the stupidity and close-mindedness.

Well, there's the Incognito general music room forum:

That's all I got.

Thanks y'all. I love the org, but the topics lately resemble a bad episode of TMZ! neutral

I joined to share my musical knowledge and hopefully get some in return. I miss cats like Paligap and the like. I learned a lot from them. I could careless about Omarion's bisexulaity, which received more hits and responses in 24hrs, than any serious music post.

The line between General Discussion and Music-Non Prince is very gray and has damn near disappeared.

I know I'm going to get blasted for this, but I hope my (and others) frustrations will lead to an overhaul of the org. Mods may need to create a celebrity/artist gossip forum for those to let loose. Your threads won't need to be locked as much and the folks who are interested can have the time of their life. The folks who want to discuss/share their favorite music should have a separate forum.

It would be great to have a forum for enhancing your knowledge and not have to weed through the B.S.

I'm strapped to the chair now....let the blasts and abuse begin! confused

It will never happen Bulldog, but I totally agree with your sentiment. Unfortunately, that's the kind of society we live in right now. Far too many people believe knowing the days current gossip is knowledge. The type of music discussed when it's NOT gossip is also very limited. But if that's what a majority of the people who frequent the org want, then that's what the forum will be. It's extremely frustrating, but I don't think it's going to change anytime soon.

Agreed the "Grey" area between current music gossip and music news / infomation does need to be sorted out ... I like a mixture of both ... I think the org can deliver both maybe a new forum could be added to give you what you and many other want...

An area free from "pop" gossip ... create the ground rules and get as many orgers to sign up to it the mods may like the idea?

Hey, bulldog, in case you or anyone else is still looking, I've come across some interesting music sites, while on a quest to get better stereo equipment.

http://soulstrut.com/

Interesting music site full of old fogeys dedicated to record digging & obscure & common quality tunes and artists. They've got a peculiar culture over there.

http://www.audiogon.com/index.html

This website is more of a technical resource, but the residents discuss a fair share of music. This website serves as an auction site exclusively used for music & equipment and it also has a forum for different faucets of music discussion. These guys are hardcore. They spend anywhere from $10K-$80K on home audio set ups. Because of this, they're also extremely knowledgeable.

http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/

I found this website, while I was looking for the MFSL remaster of Stevie Wonder's album Innervision. Apparently it's the best remaster for that album to date. Anyway, these guys are also heavily into the technical side of music, however they're more concerned with the mastering quality of albums. MFSL, MoFi, Audio Fidelity, SACD, etc... these brands and the SACD format are all really big over there.

It definetely caters to a certain type of music lover but soulbounce.com is often good. Not much discussion but good updates on often neglected soul music. I havent spent as much time there but bluesandsoul.com is also good for that.

I understand your frustration with the org. I rarely find much of interest anymore.

I think every site will have its own particular slant. That said, I often visit these places:

acclaimedmusic.net: This is a website based on compiling literally thousands of critics' lists to come up with an aggregate top 3000 albums and top 3000 songs of all-time. There is a forum there that is small, but pretty active.

rateyourmusic.com: The Mecca of cataloguing, this site is based upon rating albums, eps and singles on a 5-point scale, and it is user-driven, so you can update the database with new artists, albums, etc. The forum there can be quite snobby, but for recommendations and lists (especially for obscure stuff like italo disco and synth funk), the site is gold.

Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!
