Radiohead have announced the surprise release of their eighth studio album.

Titled The King Of Limbs, the follow-up to 2007's In Rainbows will be available to download in 320K MP3 and WAV formats this Saturday, February 19.

The record will also be available as a 'Newspaper Album', featuring either the MP3s or WAVs together with 2x10" vinyl, a CD and various pieces of artwork packaged in a full-color piece of oxo-degradeable plastic.

The 'Newspaper Album' will be shipped on May 9, but those purchasing it will be able to download the album from this Saturday.

It is available to order at http://www.thekingoflimbs.com/.

I view the "newspaper album" reference as a backhanded compliment on Prince's newspaper exclusive 20ten.

I like Radiohead but their website doesn't even mention the album which is weird so it was a total surprise to me. Instead they open www.thekingoflimbs.com. Either way I'm in! Yay Radiohead!!

yeah, i think it was metacritic that put me on that lead. they mention an atoms for peace album

release this year.

then i looked it up and atomsforpeace.co.uk is also online now. they have a retail section and it

has an "audio/visual" section that has nothing in it as yet, but you can be sure that there will be

an album in the second half of this year. thom's sitting on a lot of material.

well, let's wait and see actually, what tracks the radiohead album has and go from there biggrin

It won't be and that's just perfect. In Rainbows is brilliant in so many ways.

their first two albums? REALLY?

I respect that early era of the band, but I'm not a fan of that sound. I agree with Yorke when he says that their pre-Kid A rock albums kinda "missed the point"...

I certainly prefer their 00's albums.

the band he's been touring with, you know, with flea, is now officially dubbed "atoms for peace"

so the next thom yorke 'solo' album will be released under that name.

Kid A to me was where Radiohead and i started to decline, i feel after that everything became this attempt to just to do things away from what they had done, almost rebeling against the fact that they were held in high regard, OK computer was pretty much the masterpiece as was Kid A, but i felt its been a drop off since that, Hail to the Thief was the first album i just couldnt stand from them at all, i thought the last was a step in the right direction, but, i dont know about them at this point.

They are a strange band most bands people LOVE the early stuff and hate the newer, with them im opposite, till Kid a , top notch, but other bands like REM or u2 or Inxs etc...i cant listen to the early albums at all, for the most part, though REM murmur is a masterpiece, outside of that, Automatic for the people on are fucking flawless

out of all their albums, all the singles and bsides, a handfull of outtakes and rare live performances,

i only dislike their first album. so i think it's safe to say that i'll like it.

i ordered the limited edition vinyl of thom's "pulled apart by horses/the hollow earth" from their

website before having heard the songs and i played the fck out of that thing.

it might sound idolatrous (think prince fam) but with me thom really can do no wrong, and when the

other guys are also involved, ain't no way i'm not going to download myself what will most likely be

my favorite album of 2011.

i hear so much about them, but i don't feel like i'm missing anything. i tried to get into Massive Attack after hearing such raves and was told basically, i "had to be there" (the mid 90s acid jazz scene in London). i'm impressed with Radiohead's near universal critical acclaim, but i'm scared to take the plunge and give them a chance. is Tom's voice great, is it moody and atmospheric (kinda like Seal's best stuff)? is it well written, thought provoking lyrics? is it pop, alt rock or what, i've never even heard a single that 's made me go hmmm, (haven't heard ANY singles for that matter). i'm curious but i guess not enough

In Rainbows was an absolute incredible album, no question about it. There is no one recording rock music today that over a span of 15 years can come close to Radiohead in terms of sheer artistic achievement. The "Kid A/Amnesiac" period was unbelievable. I think "HTTT" had some fat, but at its core just as strong as the others. And both "The Bends" and "OK Computer" stand alongside the best works of that decade. Radiohead will have a lasting legacy similar to what bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin have, and it's awesome to be able to hear what their next step will be. There is a reason why nothing creates quite as much excitement in the world of rock/alternative music than a new Radiohead CD.

They do things their own way - period. Always on their own terms. And they have yet to seriously misfire.

Their music is incredibly rich - deep - complex - moving. In terms of sheer depth of feeling you can't get much better than something like "Last Flowers" or "Motion Picture Soundtrack." It's not spelled out in obvious rock cliches - - it's just there. And their sonic achievements.. they never stop creating new things and bringing in different ideas. So many bands are just formulaic and lazy; Radiohead's albums are extraordinarily well crafted.

And then there are the lyrics... Yorke's vocals... Radiohead's music is usually incredibly tense and can seem humorless. I can understand why some folks don't get into them. But i personally think they are the best band recording today by a wide margin and I can't wait for the new album cool

their main fan website (think kinda like prince org, sans the drama) crashed this morning since

they couldn't handle all the people flocking to the site to see if they had some extra info.

the site manager told nme.com that the site got "tens of thousands of hits every hour".

my personal guess is that it will be more along the lines of In Rainbows, yet with a bit

more of a rock edge, a bit more heavy. probably not as much electro since i think the

electro stuff, at least the totally wacked out glitchy weird stuff is something that is for

the most part thom's pet peeve. so he'll likely save the more outrageous electro for a

future album by himself/atoms for peace.

but with radiohead you just never know. there really isn't that much to go on with the

song they did in concert or the ones he did solo live. they're so stripped down and so

basic that you could pretty much take them anywhere productionwise.

i think it's seriously cool tho that we don't know anything and there's no tracklist. that

makes it more exciting.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS< DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING YET"

an asian online router/provider, whatever leaked info that the album is just 8 tracks.

at least they stated that on feb 19th they will be offering 8 tracks through their provider.

so probably a short album.
