Mötley Crüe ~ Kickstart My Heart

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I always found it amazing how Nikki Sixx went from being a gutter punk/terrible bassist to becoming a sometimes excellent songwriter.

I don't know why they've never been able to recapture this kind of magic, even though the band reformed and all that. The songs he does now are too heavy, imo. Get the pop back into it Nikki!

I thought that New Tattoo was almost on par with Too Fast For Love, Shout At The Devil and Dr. Feelgood and definitely better than Theatre of Pain and Girls, Girls, Girls. I haven't really listened to Saints of Los Angeles very much. I seem to recall it being ok but it suffered from undistinguished songs.

It's kind of a shame that he squandered his prime years. It seems pretty likely that his drug intake had a negative impact on his stuff in the mid '80s.

God, I haven't heard that in forever. Dr Feelgood had such a great sound.

If you say so, then for sure I have to check out New Tattoo. I did like the single, whatever it was called.... Shout At the Devil and Too Fast For Love are 2 of my favorite albums by any artist.

I ripped Saints a few years back and wasn't impressed at all. Although, come to think of it - the single was good. The title track I think. Hopefully they will try again soon.

If you keep your expectations reasonable I think you will enjoy it. It's certainly not up to the standards of their best but it is very consistent. After the self-titled album and Generation Swine I had pretty much given up any hope of them going back to their '80s sound but New Tattoo delivers that in spades. The only slight flaw is that Tommy Lee does not play on the album but I don't think his presence would have made any difference.

I read somewhere that the title of this song came from when Nikki died from an overdose and the doctors brought him back to life.

oh yeah, we've heard about it many times from his book, intereviews, Behind the Music, etc etc. Not that it isn't a great rock n' roll story, which of course isn't lost on Nikki.

'Kickstart My Heart' is a hell of a title, isn't it?

I was a HUGE hair metal fan as a kid. A lot of it has waned in my eyes with time, but not this. "Kickstart My Heart" sticks out like a sore thumb in my top 100 songs of all-time, but I just LOVE it! I've loved Dr. Feelgood for the last 21 years, but that was the only album I had of theirs until I picked up their first 3 albums last year. I also quite love Too Fast for Love and like Shout at the Devil too.
