Michael Jackson's 'second family,' the Cascios, talk to Oprah Winfrey on her show Monday

By Richard Huff

Thursday, December 2nd 2010, 11:21 AM

Michael Jackson's "second family" comes out of the shadows Monday on "The Oprah Winfrey show."

The Cascio family, who live in suburban New Jersey, tell Winfrey he called them his "second family" and that he would drop by unexpectedly.

They share the experience with Winfrey, along with home videos, and other memories about the 25-year relationship.

"In the middle of the night, sometimes he'd just knock at the door," Connie Cascio, mother of five, tells Winfrey in the interview to be seen locally on WABC/Ch. 7 at 4 p.m. Monday.

"We treated him as he was part of our family and that he was not the King of Pop but just a human being," she tells Winfrey.

Eddie Cascio was three when he met Jackson, who would go on to become his musical mentor.

Together they produced and wrote songs, three of them to be released on "Michael" set to hit Dec. 14.

Producer Teddy Riley joins Eddie Cascio on the set of the show to talk about the controversy surrounding the new songs that have surfaced. Three songs from the new CD, including one not heard yet, will be played during the show.

Besides the Cascios, Monday's show includes a chat with author Jonathan Franzen, whose book "Freedom" was Winfrey's Book Club choice, and she'll reveal her latest book pick.

Monday's show will mark the second Jackson-related telecast in a month for Winfrey, now in her final season as a daytime talk show host.

In early November Winfrey interview Jackson's mother, father and his children, Prince, 13, and Paris, 12, and Blanket, 8.

"I kind of felt like no one understood what a good father he was. He was the best cook ever," Paris told Winfrey. "He was just a normal dad."

I'm now doing a self imposed embargo on leaks til the album drops.

I wanna hear songs fresh for the first time as a set.

Who's with me?

Yeah figured none of ya would be razz

I was only going to listen to offically released songs until the album came out, but when I heard Breaking News, I knew they had failed with this project. Monster and Keep Your Head Up did not help the matters. I'm glad I didn't wait because this would have been a letdown of epic proportions.

It's funny how Michael worked with Dr Freeze on what eventually became "Invincible". He seemed to of disapeared when new jack swing died around 1993/4 (his main claim to fame being Bell Biv Devoe's "poison"). I was quite shocked to see his name on "Break of dawn" and now, so they say, "blue gangster". I can't say I love the song, but it's decent enough on first couple of listens and is probably a grower.

"Slave to the rhythm" sounds pretty standard Neyo type drivel to me, but maybe a full leak might change my mind?

Still, when those "dangerous" acetapes leaked around 2001/2002 (i had no idea they were supposed for the special edition of "dangerous" in 2001 at the time), I was expecting second rate stuff and was blown away by "for all time", and to a lesser extent "serious effect" "if you don't love me" and the rest. Also loved and still love "what more can i give" which leaked around then aswell (never saw the concert he performed it at as it was not shown in the UK).

So these new outtakes don't move me like the first time around, when I was on a college PC, innocently finding them on some ancient MJ site all those years ago, but I guess theres still hope for some songs as good as "for all time" for me, but just not yet....

I read Ellen is coming out to "Hollywood Tonight" on her show tomorrow. She's actually got a pretty good taste in music. The song being a danceable track + legitimately MJ's voice gives me high hopes for the song. Ellen actually has a pretty good taste in music, she likes a lot of R&B and soul.

I like Ellen. And not just because she's a fellow vegan lol She just seems way more genuine than most people who host shows like hers.

We need the clip of "Hollywood Tonight" ASAP!

On a side note, I just listened to the "Slave To The Rhythm" clip about 10 times in a row lol.

Still not feeling Slave To The Rhythm - it's more the music that irks me. I agree it's rough demo but something just doesn't sit right for me.

On a side note - interesting that Prince cancelled his opening night of his Welcome 2 America Tour. I guess all the Prince fans who came onto MJ threads bagging out Michael postponing the opening night of the This Is It show might feel a bit stupid now. Things like this happen. But of course they'll never admit they were being harsh in the first place.

And on another side note - I keep checking my local online music stores and they keep promoting a December 10 release for Michael here in Australia. I know it's December 14 elsewhere (and most likely will be pushed back here too - but I have to admit being excited that it might be just a week away).

Chances are some people will recieve pre-orders a few days early.

I remember back in 2007, I got the "Year Zero" album by Nine Inch Nails on a Friday when it wasn't supposed to be released till the following Tuesday, at an independant record store. The major chains were telling me that they had it in the back room but weren't allowed to sell it early. So I got it from the independent store. Sadly, that store closed down about 6 months ago otherwise I'd be hitting that place up next weekend LOL.

Not that it matters too much, I'd put money on the entire album leaking within the next 3-5 days anyway.

I think some fans are overating songs like Blue Gangsta and Slave to the Rhythym because they feel like some of the songs on Michael are fake. These two tracks are ok, but there definitely not HOT. A non fan is non gonna turn on the radio and be like daaaaaamn turn that up, Its aiiiight

Fans will be upset when they continue reading...Keep Your Head Up is the jam

Tune in to opinions from r&b and hip hop fans, along with radio. This track will get the same response as Butterflies on Urban Radio. Remember once the album is released hip hip radio stations dont even follow what should be the single..lol...They play what they like. In 2001 Butterflies had not even been released yet and they were playing it anyway. Keep Your Head up...like it or not will get the exact same response. Soulful Mike is just loved on Urban radio

Slave 2 The Rhythm and Blue Gangster kick the shit out of the three fake Cascio songs. Even if the Cascio songs were real, these two songs are still better. I've always loved BG, since the Pras/Tempa version a few years ago..... I always knew the original solo MJ version was gonna be the HEAT.

In the USA a lot of ppl listen to the radio going to work in the morning. Espicially if the crew is entertaining. Its not just about the music, sometimes the show is just hilarious and you look forward to hearing them in the morning. Radio will always be popular weather you personally like it or not.

Keep Your Head up will get positive responses do dont hate.

Not in the USA. If Steve Harvey on his radio station 93.5 in LA California and Big Boy of Power 106 which is the 1# hip hop station in california played these tracks they would be all over Keep Your Head up. Hip hop radio has taken over in the USA so you want to be hot on those stations.

Like i said soulful Mike is more popular on Urban radio than when sings like he's pissed off at the world.

Its funny in 2001 many stations in california played the entire albums and i rememeber Steve Harvey when he was with 100.3 the beat and Big Boy with power 106 were like play that Butterflies, Break of Dawn and Heaven Can wait one more time..lol...Unbreakable, invincible, heartbreaker they were like...its aiiiight....Problem was MJ on his dance tracks was not singing like in the 80s. Instead he was yelling and screaming. Cant understand him.

Dont stop to you get enough, Working Day and night, Get on the Floor, Burn this Disco out. PYT, Way You Make me feel, the up tempo tracks on Triumph and before then. Thats the MJ thats popular when it comes to dance tracks.

That yelling and screaming is only popular to the fan base which is why he has not had a hit dance track in years. Hopefully Hollywood Tonight he's happy and singing.

Slave to the Rhythm is just MJ on a techno beat. Kinda sounds like something from a 1992 underground club. That beat has been used before which is probably why it wasnt released.

And do you know where your children are...You know dog on well releasing that sets up a bunch of jokes such as....There at your crib Mike

"Unbreakable" would have been a hit if Sony had given MJ the promo budget he wanted. Most people here in the UK picked that as their favorite song on the whole album when it came out. Yes, the UK, MJ's favorite market, the place he chose for what would have been his comeback tour, not the US where he felt fans had deserted him...

I loved how the UK supported Michael even during the Jackson 5 period. Even though he had his detractors over there, for the most part, he was supported over there more than he was here. I think "Slave" would've definitely been a hit because like you said, "Jam", "Scream" and "Blood..." were hits.
