Sade Embarks on First Global Tour in Ten Years, Kicking Off North American Leg on June 16th

September 2010

Press release:

Following the platinum selling success of SOLDIER OF LOVE, Sade announces their highly anticipated return to the world's stage. The North American leg, produced by Live Nation, begins on June 16th in Baltimore, Maryland at the 1st Mariner's Arena. Tickets go on sale in select markets beginning October 16th at LiveNation.com with additional dates to be announced soon.

Sade will perform songs from their collection of timeless hits including songs from their critically acclaimed album, SOLDIER OF LOVE which secured the # 1 album spot upon its release in February. Selling over a million copies to-date, SOLDIER OF LOVE spent three weeks in the number one spot taking its rightful place among the collection of iconic Sade albums.

Sade will perform over 50 concerts in top arenas across North America, in an effort to reach her vast and loyal fan base. Their classic sound set to haunting, unmistakable vocals creates the most intimate of concert experiences in a way that only an unforgettable Sade performance can. Sade performed for more than 1,000,000 fans during her last tour in 2001.

Not only has America welcomed Sade back with open arms after close to ten years, but worldwide, SOLDIER OF LOVE has proven to be a smash. The album skyrocketed to # 1 in ten additional countries including Canada, Switzerland, France, Italy, Poland, Greece, Japan, Portugal and Spain.

Entertainment Weekly featured SOLDIER OF LOVE in their "Must List" and gave the album an "A", Rolling Stone wrote, "it's unimpeachably excellent," and The Boston Globe calls it, "a rich and rewarding album." But the accolades don't stop there. Associated Press raved, "like a long-ago lover not quite forgotten, Sade has returned to steal our hearts with more beautiful, uncategorizable music," Billboard was quoted as saying, "it's been 10 years since Sade released an album, but be forewarned – the giant has awoken," while People Magazine reminds us that "Sade remains the voice of comfort to the wounded heart."

Known for their one of a kind timeless sound, Sade has enjoyed phenomenal success both internationally and stateside throughout the span of their twenty-five year career. Since the release of their debut album, Diamond Life in 1984 the band has seen all five of their studio albums land in the Top 10 on Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart selling a total of more than 50 million albums worldwide to date. They've been nominated for American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and have won three Grammy Awards – first in 1986 for Best New Artist, then in 1994 for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group for "No Ordinary Love", and again in 2002 for Best Pop Vocal Album with Lovers Rock.

Sade Preps For U.S. Tour

September 2010

Sade and the band that bears her name are known for their affinity for understatement. So it's no surprise that in announcing her first national tour since 2001, she speaks with a distinct lack of bombast.

"It just seems a natural progression," Sade says. The trek launches June 16 in Baltimore and includes dates through Aug. 30. "Once you put an album out, it's gone, in the ether. Being on stage makes the music tangible again."

The album Sade refers to is Soldier of Love, released in February after a decade-long sabbatical from the recording studio. Soldier made its debut at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart and has been certified platinum — confirmation that at 51, Sade remains a pop-soul icon.

In fact, she'll appear alongside Alicia Keys and Jay-Z tonight at Black Ball, an annual event benefiting Keys' Keep a Child Alive Foundation, a charity for children and families with HIV/AIDS.

"Alicia chased me for a couple of years, and she's a very persuasive girl," says Sade, who has a wide smile and earthy sense of humor that belies her cool, elusive persona.

Keys is not alone among her peers in revering Sade's sultry alto and the band's smooth, jazz-kissed hits from the 1980s and '90s. Programming director Alan Light of PBS' Live From the Artists' Den notes that her successful re-emergence, and her reluctance to promote it, "flies in the face of everything marketing people tell you. She makes an argument for the power of elegance and restraint."

Sade acknowledges that she values her privacy. "I've always got so much to accomplish in my personal life, and I see that as separate," she says. That has been especially true since the birth of her daughter, Ila, in 1996. Sade and her partner, Ian Watts, live together in rural England.

"I lived in London till about six years ago, but I'm basically a country girl," Sade says. Still, she's excited to visit different cities on her tour, and Ila will accompany her "at least some of the time. She went on the road with me the last time I toured, but she always went to bed before I went on stage."

Not that Sade's daughter isn't familiar with her mum's singing. "I always express myself with music. I have a friend who drags me out shopping, and when I try on something and she says that it looks good, I'll do this little song and dance. I just sing when I'm happy, you know?"

I bet this was timed to coincide with the Grammy deadlines. Just to remind voters about the album that has long passed most memories. Good job.

Well, I noticed that later on lol, but I still better save something, cause I doubt she will come to my country, so I might have to travel somewhere to see her.

I saw the announcement this morning and nearly passed the hell out. I really didn't think it was gonna happen since that new CD came and went. But this morning it has been confirmed that there IS a GOD!

I missed her when she was here in 2001 cause I was broke, but you better believe I'll be at this show, I don't care what I have to do to get tickets.

I did notice that dates for 4th of July weekend are open, and that's Essence Festival weekend. I also noticed that they said they will be adding dates for New Orleans. I wonder if she's gonna be performing at Essence?

I'm still gonna buy my ticket for the NY show, but if she does Essence I'd SERIOUSLY consider going back to the Essence Festival.

If she were to play Essence that would be the deciding factor me finally go to New Orleans for the first time.

The show isn't until next year, but the tickets go on sale in a couple of weeks. So, if he'll want good seats, he'll have to be buying them fairly shortly.

eek Note to self, cancel everything August 5th.

<.< I need to start bribing my dad NOW. He's always had amazing luck getting tickets for shows like this. He was #1 for picking seats when the One Nite Alone concert came to Chicago. Same with plays and stuff. He's just got...charm or something. And now, our wish has come true. He and I have spent endless car rides asking when she's gonna come back.

I MUST SEE HER LIVE!!!!!! eek This is exciting.
